Who is the Scarlet Witch?

Who is the Scarlet Witch?
The Scarlet Witch is a Marvel character who has been depicted as both a villain and a hero.  She is a mutant with the super power of hexing (probability/reality alteration).

Real Name: Wanda Maximoff

First Appearance: X-Men #4

Bio:
Scarlet Witch first appearance

Wanda Maximoff along with her twin brother QuickSilver are the offspring of Magneto.  Magneto does not know of their existence while they are being raised.  The story of their birth is a little weird.  It involves the twins being born amongst the New Men of Wundagore mountain who are basically part animal part human people.  They hide the twins with a family called the Maximoffs.  There is also a demon that has a presence near Wundagore mountain and he gives the Scarlet Witch magical powers. Both twins also develop mutant powers.  Quick Silver develops super speed and Scarlet Witch gains the mutant power of hexing (altering probability).  While, they do not know their father, or he them they end up joining his group the evil brotherhood of mutants.

The twins never are very evil though and part with the group rather quickly and join the Avengers.

House of M - Scarlet Witch at a very high power level alters reality.  She utters the words "No more mutants" and removes the powers of most of the worlds mutants.

 Relationships:

  • Quicksilver - Wanda is the twin sister of Quicksilver and daughter of Magneto.
  • Vision - She is known for having a long on and off romantic relationship with the android Vision.
  • Wonderer Man - The Ionic Avenger also had feelings for Wanda and it has been hinted at, that the Vision's feelings for the Scarlet Witch may stem from Vision's cerebral matrix being based off of Wonderman's mind. Scarlet Witch's connection was strong enough to Wonder Man that she was able to re-materialize him after his death.
Powers:
The Scarlet Witche's primary power is to caste hexes that affect the probability of events.  She can also wield chaos magic.
At one point her powers are elevated due to a cosmic power source and she is able to alter all of reality this leads to the event House of M.

Scarlet Witch concept art for 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' (Marvel)
Concept Art of Scarlet Witch -Avengers Age of Ultron
Movies:

The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are dualy owned by Marvel and Fox.  This allows both companies to use the characters in either the Fox Mutant verse or Marvel's MCU.  This is why Quicksilver was able to appear in both X-Men Apocalypse / Days of Future Past and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

So far a version of Scarlet Witch has not appeared in the X-Men universe.

In the MCU the Scarlet Witch makes her first appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Wanda Maximoff and her brother Pietro are given powers by Hydra human experimentation utilizing Loki's scepter from the Avengers film.  Scarlet Witch develops telekinetic and telepathic powers and her brother develops super speed.  The Avengers attack and defeat Hydra but not before the Scarlet Witch induces Bruce Banner to go into a rampage.

The pair join forces with Ultron who offers them revenge against the Avengers.  The two become disillusioned with Ultron when they realize the murderous true intentions are to destroy the world.  The pair switch allegiances to the Avengers and help them defeat Ultron.  Quicksilver is slain during the conflict.  Wanda is saved at the last minute by the Vision.

In Captain America Civil War, Wanda has joined the Avengers.  In the conflict between the pro registration Iron Man and freedom Captain America she sides with Captain America.  A deeper relationship is shown between Wanda and Vision even though the two squared off during the Civil War event.

How do you beat Snorlax? Pokemon Go questions

Snorlax looks cute and kind of funny but don't be fooled! This Pokemon is tough as nails.  As far as tanks go in the Pokemon universe he is the ultimate one.

The Snorlax is one of the more famous Pokemon as he often has a major role in the games as an obstruction and a boss.  Yes this Pokemon is so big that when he falls asleep no one can move past him.  In the first game you needed to get a flute to wake him up, then battle him.  Catching him has always been a big deal.

In PokemonGo Snorlax is a rare Pokemon but he is becoming a very common sight in Gyms.  His massive amount of hit points makes him a hard hitting tank that does well against almost all other Pokemon.  There is even one gym I found that had multiple Snorlax in it.

There are some complaints by people that Snorlax is overpowered in the game.  I personally think that it is ok how powerful a rare Pokemon is and you have to keep in mind  there is still a way to take him down.  Read On for more on that.

HOW TO FIGHT A SNORLAX or should I say...
HOW TO BEAT SNORLAX
WHAT IS THE BEST POKEMON TO USE VS A SNORLAX

Remember that Pokemon Types are very IMPORTANT
Read this --->  Pokemon Types Explained

Want to take down this big galute?   Its not easy but it can be done with some planning.

First things first you need to have a pretty strong Pokemon.  Look at the CP of the Snorlax and make sure you get relatively close.  No matter what Snorlax is going to be tough.  Snorlax is unusually powerful in this game and it is fair to say that he does not have a true counter.  You need to either use your most powerful Pokemon or build up a stable of Pokemon to take him down.

Snorlax is Normal Pokemon but has potential move sets that very between a few types.

Here are some good Pokemon to look at for Snorlax Counters:

Fighting Pokemon
The thing to know is that Snorlax is a NORMAL type Pokemon and the best Pokemon to use against NORMAL type are FIGHTING pokemon.   Unlike other types of Pokemon the NORMAL types are really pretty steady state against most others Pokemon and FIGHTING is really their only consistent weakness.  What makes NORMAL's even better is that there are not too many FIGHTING Pokemon.  Likely the most common FIGHTING Pokemon I have seen in Pokemon Go is a Mankey.  Get yourself a Mankey build him up and evolve him into a Prime Ape.

You could also build up either a Hitmonlee or a Machop if you find them.  In my experience those have been more rare than Mankeys though.  If you find one though they may be worth to build if only to take down Snorlax and other Rock Pokemon.

The reality is there are not very many FIGHTING Pokemon so if you find an area that has them go there a bit and build up your Snorlax Slayer.

I have seen Fighting Pokemon around grass areas and around major recreational areas.  I captured a 400 cp Hitmonlee in a hotel in Calgary, Canada.

Machamp!!!!!!!!
Machamp is the best of the best in the game currently at taking down Snorlax and most other Normal Pokemon.
The best fighting Pokemon though is a MaChamp if you can get him he is likely the best FIGHTING  Pokemon counter to Snorlax.  The one bad thing about MaChamp is that he does suffer from a poor move set.

One other tip on building a Pokemon champion to take down the Snorlax.  Sometimes getting a FIGHTING Pokemon is not quite good enough.  To beat Snorlax make sure your Pokemon has 2 FIGHTING style attacks.   Sometimes you will catch a FIGHTING a Pokemon that has NORMAL attack and only a FIGHTING Special.  You  really want to get one that has both actions as FIGHTING.  While a FIGHTING Special can do a ton of damage its rarely enough when you are fighting a Snorlax.   The Snorlax just has too many hit points to give up ground on one of your attacks. You want to lower his HP with the FIGHTING fast attacks then deliver huge blows with the FIGHITNG special.

Weakness of Fighting Pokemon vs SnorlaxHere is more on why Snorlax is so powerful and also some of the relative weakness of Fighting Pokemon against him.  Due to weak move sets and the type damage not being high enough the FIGHTING Pokemon are not as effective as they should be.

One other problem is that some Snorlax have the move Psychic Headbutt which does a ton of damage to FIGHTING Pokemon.

Ghost Pokemon Option 2: Gengar

One other option is to use a GHOST type Pokemon that are strong against Normal type Pokemon.

Update 8-8-2016:
I have tested some of these strategies.  I use a PrimeApe to battle Snorlax and seems to do as well anything though I will say Snorlax is still pretty hard.  Taking on a 1200 CP Snorlax with  a 500 PrimeApe is not going to happen.  However a 1000 Prime Ape can easily handle the 1200 CP Snorlax.   My Prime Ape is named Snorlax Slayer and has taken down 3 Snorlax.

Also Ghost Pokemon do incur damage from Snorlax but at a much lesser rate.  I have not seen any attack types be completely immune.  It seems to me that each attack has different types of damage with some of this damage coming from the Type/Type.  This Type/Type damage portion is what is reduced to effectively zero.

Update 8-23-2016
I finally have my Gengar ready to test out against Snorlax.  Multiple people have told me that they think Gengar works the best.  I will try to provide an update tonight.

Update 9-7-2016

My Gengar does work though honestly I think he should work a little better than he does.  My thinking here is that Gengar has a high speed in the other games that has not been translated into increasing attacks (So far) in Pokemon Go.  Gengar is one of those fast Pokemon that suffers some from how Speed is treated in the game.  If Speed were changed Gengar could easily become one of the best Pokemon in the game.  In some sense keeping a Gengar and Jolteon (Both are fast) is a good insurance policy as I think Niantic will update how Speed is used down the road.

I do think he is currently better than my PrimeApe for taking down Snorlax and is my best Pokemon so far.  At the very least Gengar does well defensively he not suffer from the Snorlax Psychic Headbutt attacks and he also does well against the Normal attacks.

I will warn anyone that getting a Gengar is kind of a bear.  You need a TON of Ghost Candy so if you get one you might make your buddy a ghost and also seek out known Ghastly nests in your area.

Who is Thanos?

Thanos is a major villain in the Marvel Universe.  He is bent on the destruction and end of all things.  He is closely associated with an item called the infinity of gauntlet that grants its user near omnipotent powers.  He is hunted down and opposed by the hero Drax the Destroyer.

First Appearance:  Iron Man #55

Bio:
There is Big, there is Bad and then there is Thanos...

http://dreager1.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/2612854-thanos_strangling_mephisto.jpg

Thanos the name in Greek means either Death or Eternal depending on who I ask.  Either is an appropriate description of the character Thanos.

Thanos is the biggest of the big bads that Marvel has.   While other villains want to get rich, or conquer the world, Thanos wants to literally end existence in a bid to get Mistress Death to give him attention.

He is super strong, intelligent, ruthless, telepathic and powerful and a master of variety of scientific and mystical arts that make him one of toughest warriors in the Marvel Universe.  To get to the powerlevel of destroying life Thanos seeks out the infinity gems.

Thanos fellow Titans realize the threat Thanos poses to existence and so create a hero whose sole purpose is to oppose and destroy Thanos.  Thanos's father, Mentor takes the soul of a victim of Thanos and creates Drax the Destroyer.  Drax is given a powerful body and desires only vengeance on Thanos.  Unknown to Drax mentor also saved his daughter and raised her Titan, she later emerges  as the hero, Moondragon.

Thanos wipes the race known as the Zen Whoberi.  He takes the last offspring of the species names her Gamora and raises her as a daughter.  He is not a kind father but instead trains Gamora to be tough and ruthless.  Working for her father as an assassin she gains the reputation of the most dangerous woman in the galaxy.  She later betrays Thanos and becomes one of his most stalwart enemies.

His search, battle and eventual getting the God like power of the infinity gauntlet were the story of a few major Marvel events.  Thanos has been killed a few times, only to be brought back.

During Thanos Imperative the Guardians of the Galaxy actually bring him back to life so as an avatar of Death he can face off against an evil world where they is only life.

Relatives:
  • Mentor - Father
  • Gamora - Adopted daughter
  • Nebula - Claims to be biological daughter in the comics (disputed by Thanos).  She is an adopted daughter of Thanos in the MCU.

Creation:
Thanos is one of the creations of comic writer Jim Starlin.  Jim Starlin was taking psychology courses at the time and conceived of Drax the Destroyer and Thanos.  Thanos being a villain infatuated with death and Drax being character created to destroy him.   Given a chance to write for Ironman he threw both characters into the story.  Initially, Thanos was somewhat skinny, Starlin had based his design of him off of Metron one of the new gods at DC.  Editor Roy Thomas looked at the design and suggested he beef up Thanos and copy the better new god Dark Siege.  For this reason Thanos and Darkseid are both similar looking and serve a similar role as the super bad and power villain.  The similarity is pretty well known.  During one universe cross over event the similarity is even referenced with Darkseid finds the infinity gauntlet.  Lucky for everyone he is unable to use it.  Apparently, its powers are isolated to the Marvel Universe, which was good from everyone.

http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/6/63715/2416695-darkseidsu7.jpg

Powerlevel
Thanos's power level is very high.  He can pretty take on any character in the Marvel Universe and with the infinity gauntlets has literally taken on every character in the universe.

Powers:
Super strength
Super durability
Longevity - approaching immortality
Genuis level intelligence

Sometimes Thanos has been shown to use:
Telekinesis
Teleportation
Energy projection and manipulation

Thanos Marvel Cinematic Universe
Thanos will be played by Josh Brolin.  I am still not clear if he will only lend his voice to a CGI created Thanos or if he will be in a costume.

The Thanos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still somewhat of a mystery.  It is unclear if his motivations will be the same as his comic counterpart.
What is known is that he will be the main villain featured in Avengers 3, and he will show up in Guardians of the Galaxy.
He made a brief appearance in the after credit scene of the Avengers.  Thanos provided Loki with the Chitauri Scepter with Mind Infinity Gem attached.  It was also one of his armies that invaded Earth at the behest of Loki.
Did Loki have the Mind Infinity Gem in the Avengers?

In Marvel Prelude #1 we see a Thanos more focused on Strength and ridding oneself of weakness than a focus on Death.

Eisner Nominations for 2018

Eisner nominations have been released for 2018 awards.  The Eisner is the comic book equivalent of the Oscars and like the Oscars I like to look through nominations to see who made it that I liked and also what did I myself miss.

A couple of Toylab Thoughts:
Perusing through the list I was happy to see that  Jeff Lemire was recognized for his Black Hammer seires, Matt Kindt for XO Manowar and Tom King for both Batman and Mister Miracle.  I still XO-Manowar was the best book of 2017.

A couple that I have not read that I need to check out are Tea Dragon Society and Monstress.

One sad / amusing thing I noticed  is that Marvel received awards primarily for series that no longer exist with Black Bolt and Hawkeye showing up here.  It would be nice if some of these series were maintained to the point that fans could still check them out after the Eisner was announced.  The Black Bolt series that received awards does deserve to be on the list.  While overall I have felt that the Inhumans overstayed their there welcome and were pushed too heavily the Black Bolt series was very good and went in a very different direction.  I'd say it was the all around best Inhumans based work ever and I'd put it above the War of Kings Cosmic stories that I loved.

Thanos decides to give Black Dwarf another chance and asks him to defend the Peak from the Avengers.  There he is confronted and killed by Ronan the Accuser.

Hawkeye
Hawkeye is the first Chair of the team but struggles to live up to the leadership of Captain America.

Tigra
Tigra joins reluctantly.  She really did not feel that she had what it took to be an Avenger.   She also must deal with her attraction to men, who also tend to be attracted to her.  Iron Man notices early on that Tigra wears a lot less clothes than any other Avenger he has been around before.

Wonder Man

Who is Heimdall?

Heimdall is a Marvel character based off the mythological Norse god, Heimdallr.  The primary Asir/Asgardian hero in the Marvel universe is Thor, who is generally Heimdall's friend.   Heimdall is generally highly loyal to whomever has the throne of Asgard.  He has battled Thor on a few occasions sticking to orders of Odin.   In the MCU Heimdall has been played by Idris Elba in the films, Thor, Thor 2, and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Heimdall is an Asgardian born of the nine mothers.  He is the brother of the female Asgardian warrior, Sif.  He is unusually strong and wise even for an Asgardian and is born with a special gift of heightened senses.  His sense or hearing and sight are so strong that he can hear the sap moving the trees or a butterfly flap its wings many worlds away.  He can see onto other worlds, and it has been suggested in certain stories through time itself.

With his wisdom, steadfast loyalty and powers he is appointed to by Odin to guard the bifrost (rainbow bridge) that connects Asgard to other worlds.  In function he is Asgard's chief guardian and its first line of defense.

On a few occasions Heimdall has been put in charge of Asgard and given the magical God like powers called the Odin Force.  On these occasions Heimdall is one of the most powerful characters in all the Marvel universe.

To overcome Heimdall guard of the bifrost generally opposing forces have used magic, technology or in the case of Loki trickery.  He has however been successful on most occasions of controlling the comings and goings on the bifrost bridge.  A few characters such as hyper powered Absorbing Man, the Hulk, and Surtuur have managed to cross into Asgard by defeating Heimdall with brute strength.

Powers:
Amongst all the Asgard, Heimdall is considered to be one of the strongest, and most powerful along with Thor, and Odin himself.  He has defeated Thor once in personal combat (However, Thor's powers were halved at the time).   He also has personally battled the Hulk  and Surtuur but was eventually overcome by both heavy weights.   He is one of the wisest Asgardians having drunk from the well of Mimir like Odin.

Being Asgardian he is far stronger, faster, and more durable than a normal human.  He also ages much slower and can live for thousands of years.  Heimdall is considered unusually strong even for an Asgardian putting him in the company of Odin and Thor.

Martial skills - Considered roughly the equal of Thor and Odin.

Heimdall's primary power is hyper senses that allow him to see and hear on other world's.  These senses make him a formidable sentry.

Magic abilities:
Interdimensional travel, and communication

Magic Items:
Uru Sword - Said to have magical energy abilities

Gjallarhorn - The yelling a horn a horn capable of reaching out to all Asgardians regardless of there location in the world of Asgard to tell there is trouble.

Gulltroppr - Magic horse

Heimdall is in the MCU films Thor, Thor 2 the Dark World, and Avengers Age of Ultron.  He is played by Idris Elba.
In Thor and Thor 2 Heimdall guards the Rainbrow bridge or the Bifrost bridge that connects Asgard to other worlds.  He is depicted as being highly capable and loyal to Odin.

Heimdall has a look in Thor Ragnarok.  He does not appear in his gold armor but instead appears to be undercover.  He is also not guarding the bifrost bridge as he traditionally does.

Optimal MCU film viewing for Avengers Infinity War

The Marvel Cinematic Universe that began with Iron Man in 2008 is now hitting a major climax with Avengers Infinity War.  To prepare for the film many fans are going back and rewatching various of the films. I have been asked if there is a list of films to watch that specifically educate a viewer on the going ons of Avengers Infinity War.

AMC is now offering a Marvel Movie Marathon to go along with Avengers Infinity War.  According to Hollywood Reporter currently two locations are set to house the Movie Marathon.  The two locations will be AMC Empire 25 (Times Square, New York) and AMC Disney Springs 24 in Orlando FL.   The admission fee for the marathon is $75 and includes 12 films with final being Infinity War.

Here is the list of films that they will show:

  • Iron Man
  • The Incredible Hulk
  • Thor
  • Captain America: The First Avenger
  • Marvel’s The Avengers
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron
  • Captain America: Civil War
  • Doctor Strange
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming
  • Black Panther
  • Avengers: Infinity War

Thoughts on Marvel Marathon:
There are 17 films and there will be 18 with the release of Black Panther.  This makes for around 45 hours of film time.  There are also shorts, and various MCU TV shows including some of my favorites such as Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Punisher etc.

There are three paths to take how I see it:
1) Watch everything in chronological order
2) Watch only the best items
3) Watch only the material that most ties into Infinity War

I am going to try to set up #3 so people can refresh themselves and also if some one wants to catch up and feel knowledgable they can.  My goal here is to streamline this list as much as possible but still keep the major plot points.

Toylab's Infinity Watch List (Short Style):
This is my ultra streamlined watch list:

1) Avengers
2) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1
3) Avengers Age of Ultron
4) Captain America: Civil War
5) Thor Ragnarok

Total Hours is approximately - 13 hours

This film order misses a great deal of character introductions but explains the Avengers, the relationships of the Avengers, the Infinity Stones, Thanos, Guardians of the Galaxy, Nebula, Ragnarok, Black Panther and Wakanda. Even Spider-Man and Ant-Man are in Captain America Civil War. Doctor Strange would be given some exposure in Thor Ragnarok.

The infinity stones that are covered include Power (Guardians), Mind (Avengers 1 and 2)

You miss out on Time (Doctor Strange) and part of Space is missed by skipping Captain America.

Most of the films that introduce the characters are skipped in this watch list.  However, some meaningful character introductions are included Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Panther, Spider-Man.

If I dropped one film out of the list it would be Thor Ragnarok and just end with Captain America: Civil War.  Ragnarok does catch up the viewer on important characters such as Thor, Hulk and Loki and it also explains why Asgard can not help Earth against Thanos.

I feel that a person who watched this list would have a very strong idea of all the major players, the concepts and relationships that will make up Avengers: Infinity War.

Toylab's Expanded Infinity Watch List
This list still cuts out films that are not related to Infinity War including some gems like Captain America Winter Soldier but it does provide all character introductions unlike the list above.  I did skip Incredible Hulk because I think Ruffalo's Hulk is better introduced in Avengers.  Plus nearly all of the events and characters in the Incredible Hulk have been ignored.  The fact that Bruce Banner himself switched actors I think makes that film more confusing than its worth.  Black Widow's introduction in Iron Man 2 is also missed but once again I feel that she is very well introduced in Avengers.  I debate heavily about including Doctor Strange and Black Panther in the list because both make some appearances in other films.  However, the importance of Wakanda and Strange in Infinity War seem to be high so I think their inclusion makes sense.  This does miss the Aether Infinity Stone from Thor 2 the Dark World but other wise the Infinity Stone material is covered.

The Expanded List
1) Captain America: The First Avenger
2) Iron Man
3) Thor
4) Guardians of the Galaxy
5) Avengers
6) Avengers Age of Ultron
7) Captain America Civil War
8) Doctor Strange
9) Black Panther
10) Thor Ragnarok

This 10 film list is approximately 27 hours of film

You will note that I altered the watch order for this list.  The reason I did this is that the introductions of all the characters is handled before Avengers.  Then the films Avengers, Avengers Age of Ultron and Captain America Civil War flow very well together.    Then Doctor Strange and Black Panther introduce the last important pieces of the Infinity War story.  Thor Ragnarok covers what happens to Thor and Hulk and seems like the perfect jump off point to Infinity War and is thus placed after Black Panther.

Thanos appears in Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers (End credit scene) and Avengers Age of Ultron (End credit scene).  Putting Guardians before Avengers does come with slightly awkward fact that the Other is killed in Guardians by Ronan but then alive in the Avengers End Credit scene.  I just don't see that character as being very important to the overall narrative.  Thanos is given a fuller introduction in Guardians that will help non comic fans know who he is in the end credit sequences of Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

What films do you think are most vital to watch Avengers Infinity War?  Which films would you change in my lists?  Let me know in the comments below!

Cloak and Dagger new trailer!

Marvel has released news that a new Marvel based TV series is coming.  The show is Cloak and Dagger based off the characters of the same name and appearing on the Freeform channel.

Official Synopsis:
Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger follows the interracial romance between Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph), two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

New Poster:

Update 4/20/2017 New Trailer for Cloak and Dagger
Alright lets take a step back and notice one thing. If you scroll down in this post you will see that the last update was a casting update in Jan.  3 months later Freeform is putting out a trailer.  That is really quick.  Some Marvel fans are skeptical about the Freeform platform but give them this they don't mess around.

Now into the trailer a little bit.  The first part of the trailer is pretty much what you expect from a Freeform show lots of Teen Drama, Angst, Problems with the parents, hint of romance.  Some Marvel fans may already be saying this is not for me but keep in mind that this show is being aimed at a different demographic.  Toward the end of the trailer we begin to see powers show up a bit particularly Tandy's light daggers.  We also see Tyrone donning a cloak on a building with a Roxxon oil sign.  We don't really see Tyrone use his dark dimension teleportation ability and I really want to see that but it becomes clear that this is in the MCU this is a Marvel show.

It seems like their power origins are a bit different in this show.  Its hinted at Tandy and Tyrone met earlier in their childhood.  It looks like Tandy was trapped in a car sinking in water and that Tyrone may have saved her.  In the comics they were experimented on as teenage runaways here it seems it may go back to something happened earlier.  It also seems that both Tyrone and Tandy will be runaways when they meet up as teenagers.  The story where Tyrone and Billy get caught up being blamed for robbery and Billy gets shot is here as well.  This is hinted at when Tyrone speaks to his worried mom and an image of him looking afraid as a child.  It seems that Billy will be re-visioned as Tyrone's brother and he is shot by police after being mistaken for a robber.

One other thing is that the Roxxon oil sign makes me think that they could be part of Cloak and Dagger's origin and also be villains within the show.  This may make sense as remember that in Agent Carter Roxxon Oil was around with the Dark Matter elements being experimented on and Cloak's power ties into the same Dark Dimension.  Yes this is also the Dark Dimension that Dormammu the villain in Doctor Strange controls.

Update 1/30/2017
Deadline has reported that Olivia Holt will play Tandy Bowen / Dagger and that Aubrey Joseph has been cast as  Tyrone Johnson /Cloak

Show runner Joe Pokaski commented on the casting:
"When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leaped off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”

Update 1/26/2017

That Hashtag Show has been finding and releasing casting descriptions for a variety of upcoming shows including Inhumans, and the New Mutants.  Now the show has released descriptions for Cloak and Dagger.
Character Descriptions of Cloak and Dagger being used for casting the two main leads:

Dagger - (Olivia Holt has been cast)
Tara – Female, 18 to play 17, Caucasian.
Tara was a plucky southern girl who grew up with everything. She was always full of light. Then an accident took away everything. Now she’s a cynic who steals from tourists to make ends meet. Life took from her. She’s going to take back. But can that light be rekindled? Series Lead.

Cloak - (Aubrey Joseph)
Travis – Male. 18 to play 17. African American.
When Travis was a little boy he was fearless. But then he made a mistake and it cost him dearly. So Travis grew up in a fear. Scared of a world he couldn’t control. So he controlled what he could. Keeping his head down, focusing on school and basketball. Locking in on fear. But is that brave boy still in there? Series Lead.

Original Post following NYCC:

Here is the new unveiling of the shows Logo:

Cloak and Dagger coming to Freeform

What is Freeform?  Freeform is the name of what was known as ABC Family.  This station may be a foreign realm to some Marvel fans it certainly was to me.  So I reached out to some experts fellow Toylab bloggers, Katey Komics and SarahLovesZombies.   So here is what they said to expect from Freeform shows cute teenage romance, boys with shirts off, Twilight like plot, and Twilight like acting.  I looked up shows on the station and that includes one show I really like Stichers.  The station features a lot of movies (Mostly romantic comedy or family films).  They also show a lot of reruns of shows like Gilmore Girls and new shows like Young and Hungry, Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, and Baby Daddy.

Two of Freeforms new shows to watch are Stichers and Shadowhunters both have a darker, action young adult vibe of feel that I think Cloak and Dagger could fit in well with.

There are sure to be some grumblings about having a Marvel show appear on Freeform.  I do think this could mean that the show will lean toward sappy, cheesy, teen drama stories but I also think......that is absolutely brilliant.

Look my biggest problem with what DC has done with their film universe is that they have put their entire universe in this serious, emo, dark little box.  When you have nearly a 100 years of stories doing that seems silly.   Marvel is going to use the full bandwidth of their stories and appeal to a wide audience.  More serious dark fair will appear on Neflix, family action fair will appear in most of their films and on their ABC shows.  Now they are opening up a new front of shows aimed at teens.  What I expect is actually something similar to DC's Flash with little more interpersonal drama.

Don't know who Cloak and Dagger are?  Why should you watch?

Cloak and Dagger are great characters but they have come in and out of print since their creation.  As such they are not the most popular Marvel characters.  Cloak and Dagger are teens who come into having super powers that are effectively the inverse of each other.  Cloak has the ability to teleport using a connection to a Dark Universe.  Dagger can fire out beam knives made of light. Cloak has a hunger feed on lifeforce to the darkness of his power, however Dagger is able to feed him her light keeping him in balance.  This also means that the pair are stuck together even if they don't always want to be.

This is not an easy romance, there is a great deal of hardship and darkness in Cloak and Dagger.  Bill Mantlo who created Cloak and Dagger spoke of a lonely trip to Ellis Island at night where he was struck with the ideas for the pair.  He said there idea is driven by

"They came in the night, when all was silent and my mind was blank. They came completely conceived as to their powers and attributes, their origin and motivation. They embodied between them all that fear and misery, hunger and longing that had haunted me on Ellis Island."(From Shayer, Jason V. (December 2010). "Cloak and Dagger: Child of Light and Child of Darkness".)

The two come from different world, but fall in love, the break up, then fall in love yeah its already sounding  like a Freeform show.

So why to watch romance, super powers, and action.  Great stuff.

Will the Show be set in the MCU?'
My best guess is yes but I would not expect to much interaction with other shows or heroes.  Cloak and Dagger have tend to be on their own most of the time.  They have had interactions with the Avengers and have had many tie ins with Spider-Man.

It should be noted that Cloak and Dagger generally did not battle super villains but generally drug dealers.  There many not be much of characters crossing between other MCU vehicles.

Will Bill Mantlo get paid for this?

One other consideration with Cloak and Dagger is Bill Mantlo.  Bill Mantlo is the creator of Cloak and Dagger.  Many years ago Bill suffered a terrible accident while roller blading and has been in a medical care facilities ever since.  His condition has been expensive and hard.  There are some excellent write ups about it that exist.   Bill also created Rocket Raccoon and it was reported that some funds were channeled to help his medical care when Guardians of the Galaxy is released.  Hopefully, this can also be true when Cloak and Dagger is released.

I will say that I am not starting some drum beat against Marvel here at all.  Mike Mantlo (Bill's brother) wrote a piece that Marvel has done a lot for Bill and wanted the comic community that they were no "villains" in this case.  Still it would be nice if Bill could get something for his work from his creation.

I have heard nothing about this and may never know because hey finances are personal.  However, if I do hear anything I will report it.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Movie - News, Trailers, and Art

Marvel has some major films coming out.  Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War and lets not forget Ant-Man and the Wasp.  Many thought that Ant-Man was going to be the first Marvel bomb due to its trouble with production however that was not the case.  The film received positive reviews and did well in the box office.  This upcoming film features Ant-Man and the Wasp a female hero who has similar powers.  While both characters have been overlooked at times its worth noting that both Ant-Man and Wasp were founding members of the Avengers in the comics and have loads of comic history.

Synopsis from Marvel:
From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of “Captain America: Civil War,” Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Ant-Man is Marvel film that tells the tale of Scott Lang a thief who becomes the hero Ant-Man.

Update:
Despite predictions that Ant-Man would be Marvel's first flop it has done quite well to date.
As of August 3 Ant-Man has made $300 million worldwide.  It held the title of number 1 movie in America for 2 1/2 weeks before being knocked down a notch by Mission Impossible Rogue Nation.  It still managed to finish above the new film Minions on its third week.  It looks like an Ant-Man 2 could be in the cards.

D&D to reveal new Adventure in Stream of Many Eyes

Stream of Many Eyes to reveal new D&D Adventure!

One of the things that is making the current surge in popularity in D&D versus different than in the 80s is the online shows devoted to it, the actors, and scene around it.  There are not legitimate D&D celebrities.  This is very different than nerds collecting in dark rooms and basements and playing where no one could see.  There is a boldness, and really infects everything about D&D right now.  People who play D&D are proud, they wear t-shirts about it, post it on Instagram and even talk about it at work.  The differences are very pronounced and its even changing how a D&D book is launched.

D&D's next adventure is going to be revealed at an event that feels like Apple Product Unvieling, or a cool comic con panel.  The company is going to bring out their experts and the celebrity players like Force Grey and Critical Role.  I honestly have not fully processed exactly what this cultural shift means, but generally I think its good.  I think people today are getting more and more disconnected and D&D is a great way to connect with people in a very human way.

They have not released much about this new adventure but you can watch the "Stream of Many Eyes" on their Twitch channel starting on Friday 4pm PT.  You can also buy tickets and join the event in LA.

Another book is also coming out later this month in Mordenkanens Tome of Foes.

Press Release on Stream of Many Eyes

The Stream of Many Eyes starts at 4pm PT on Friday, June 1st, with a visual tour of the studio led by host Anna Prosser Robinson and a roundtable conversation with the D&D team on the new storyline and what makes it so exciting. Dungeons & Dragons will then present live D&D play sessions with Force Grey & Dice, Camera, Action.
On Saturday, June 2nd, the livestream kicks off at 10 AM PT with Sirens of the Realms. Saturday’s games will feature well-known D&D gaming group Girls, Guts, Glory as well newer groups Rivals of Waterdeep and Dark & Dicey, all previewing content from the new story. The entertainment will run all day, wrapping up at 7 PM PT.
Four groups will perform on Sunday, June 3rd, beginning at 11 AM PT and streaming until 8 PM PT. Games will include members of Critical Role, High Rollers, Force Grey and the entire cast of Dice, Camera, Action performing together in costume for the first time.

Who is Betty Cooper?

Betty is a love of interest of Archie the main character from Archie comics.  She has appeared in TV, comics, radio shows and comics since her first appearance in the 1940s.  Betty is played by actress Lili Reinhart in the C.W. TV series Riverdale.

First Appearance: Pep Comics #22 (1941)

Full Name: Betty Cooper

Hometown: Riverdale

High School: Riverdale High School

Betty Cooper News:

More Dark Betty in Season 2?
In one episode of Season Betty tortured a student to gain information on slut shaming ring while doning a Black Wig. It seemed for a moment that she was overcome by the dark persona and nearly took things too far.  According to an interview with Lili Reinhart by Elite Daily the Dark Betty persona will be explored further in Season 2.  Betty will not wear a black wig this time but rather the show will explore where those dark emotions that overwhelmed Betty came from in the first place.  Reinhart explains that the pressure placed on Betty to be perfect take its toll on her psyche.  She further elaborates:
The mystery of Season 2 revolves a lot around Betty… Season 2 focuses a lot on Dark Betty. I think the way it was portrayed in Season 1 was like “Whoa, she's wearing a dark wig,” like an alter-ego, where it was a physically dark Betty. But in Season 2 it's a lot more… internally her darkness comes out, and it's a tortured soul Betty that you get to see. So it's a lot more of an internal struggle, rather than just a moment of putting on a wig.

More on the Elite Daily interview with Lili Reinhart can be found HERE.

Free Comic Book Day 2018 Highlights

Toylab Highlights:
The Major highlight for this FCBD are going to be the mystery DC comic and Amazing Spider-Man.  I really want to see what the mystery DC comic is and am also extremely curious about where Nick Spencer is taking Spidey.  Its been awhile since we got a new writer on Amazing Spider-Man so the transition seems like a big deal.

Shadowman #1 - Really think anyone missed this one should pick it up.  I see Shadowman as being the flagship book of Valiant this year.

I also always love Lady Mechanica, I am interested in Invasion. Silver and Shadow Roads.

Which books are you interested in?

Review of Strange Tales #180 First Appearance of Gamora

Strange Tales #180 is one of my most favorite comics in the Toylab Vault.  Taking it out to check out is going to be a real joy.  This comic is special in a lot of ways and its value reflects this.  Depending on Quality this comic can be worth between $40 and a $1,000.  We happen to have a really good copy of this book.

Claims to Fame:

I also think this story could be used as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 story.    If Warlock is in Guardians 2 then the Universal Church of Truth would be a natural villain of choice.

Story:
This story focuses primarily on Adam Warlock learning more about himself and his future evil self known as the Magus.  Warlock is tricked by the Matriarch of the Universal Church of Truth into a trap.  He wants to learn more about himself but unfortunately he learns something terrible.  Warlock learns that he destined to become the Magus who is the founder of the Universal Church of Truth an evil organization.

Warlock has learned that he can not remove the soul gem from his brow without becoming greatly weakened.  It seems the gem has begun leeching off of his own soul.

As he is tricked into a trap he falls into a kind of court led by a alien judge named Kray-Tor.

http://dinosaurdracula.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/kraytor.jpg

To my knowledge this is the only appearance of Kray-Tor.  I kind of like him he is a big weird looking alien.  Kray-Tor is part of an evil inquisition part of the Church that seeks out and eliminates its detractors with ruthless intolerance.

Warlock quickly realizes the trial is rigged against him.  Seeing Kray-Tor and the Universal Church of Truth for what it is, hypocrytical evil he makes a fateful choice.  He uses the Soul Gem to absorb Kray-Tor's life force into it.  This gives Warlock both Kray-Tor's energy and his memories.

Using this power is of course a fateful decision.  The same power that Warlock uses to vanquish evil is the same one that will eventually convert him into the evil version of himself.  Ironically, he is facing an evil that he will one day create.

 Gamora's first appearance:
At the end of the book Pip the Troll wanders into a bar to order a drink.  (Fun note: Pip always eats/drinks some form of poop)  He is annoyed that he lost Adam Warlock.  He feels somewhat abandoned by the hero.  He is then met by a dangerous green woman who is eager to find Adam Warlock herself.  This of course is the deadly assassin Gamora!

Gamora's first appearance here is pretty good, you can see her design very well. The next appearance is even better.  You actually do not learn her name until the next book Strange Tales #181.

In the next of Strange Tales (Strange Tales #181) Gamora reappears and gives her famous line.

"I go by many names my tick ridden Troll, but I'm sure the one that Black Knight knew me by is....
Gamora the Deadliest Woman in the Whole Galaxy!"

Damn that's some good stuff!

Here is the full panel where Gamora and Pipp confront a member of the Black Knights to learn the location of Adam Warlock.

Bio:

Infinity:
Proxima Midnight's early life is mostly unknown.  She is considered to be one of the best fighters in the armies of Thanos and is selected to join his elite Black Order.  At some point Proxima Midnight marries fellow Black Order member Corvus Glaive.  The two dark hearted individuals are a good pair with a great deal of respect for each other but none for anyone else.

Thanos sends the Black Order to Earth to prepare for his invasion and to collect the Infinity Gems.  Proxima is sent specifically to retrieve the Infinity Gem that is thought to be held by Namor.

On the way to Namor, Proxima decides to add to her mission and get some extra credit from her master by also destroying New York City.  The main Avengers team was off battling an alien race called the Builders in space and so the city seemed undefended.  However, Proxima ran into a very angry Luke Cage and his new team of Avengers going by the name of Mighty Avengers.

Proxima managed to stab Spectrum with a blast of anti photon energy that crippled her light form.  She then began to grapple and pound on Luke Cage.  During the bout where Proxima seemed to have been victorious a large crowd of New Yorkers surrounded the super powered villain and began chanting "Avengers Assemble".  Irritated at the crowd's insolence Proxima went to strike but was stopped by an energized Luke Cage who went on to fight her off.  Thanos was very annoyed at Proxima's failure in NYC and urged to get to Alantis and finish the task he had sent her on.  In Atlantis she found a broken Namor who had recently been beaten in a war with Wakanda.  She found he had no gem.  Namor revealed the location of the gem to be in Wakanda and he pledged himself to Thanos to save what was left of Alantis.

Black Dwarf another member of the Black Order failed to retrieve the gem from Wakanda being beaten by the Wakandan forces.  This forced Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive and Thanos himself to attack Wakanda.  However while at Wakanda Ebony Maw located Thanos's son Thane in  Greenland.  The full Black Order set out to kill Thane.  Thane however proved to be too powerful for his father and ensconsed Thanos, Proxima, and Corvus in amber in a state of living death.  This in part was done due to a betrayal by Ebony Maw.

Cabal/Incursions/Time Runs Out
Earth became faced with a series of Incursion events where one Dimension would run into another Dimension with the focal point being Earth.  The only way to survive such an event was for one of the Earth's to be destroyed.  After doing this to one Earth the Illuminati felt morally sickened and so decided to forego the destruction of any more Earths.  Only Namor desired to continue to destroy the Earths.  On each Earth, the heroes would have to face the super powered defenders of the other dimension and Namor realized he would not be able to do this alone.  He went and freed Thanos, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight and formed the Cabal.  The Cabal went out and destroyed the other Earths so their Earth and universe would survive.
The Cabal was allowed to stay on Earth and continue in their purpose of destroying other Earths.  However, Namor became increasingly sickened at the gleeful attitudes of his fellow Cabal members in slaughtering worlds.  He eventually left set up a trap where the Cabal was to be left on another Earth and a barrier would be erected.  Namor completed his task but was himself betrayed by Black Panther and Black Bolt who pushed him back into the dieing world.  The Cabal found another incurssion point and escaped into a third Earth Dimension that turned out to be the Ultimates Universe.  In the Ultimates Universe the Cabal joined forces with the Ulimate Version of Mister Fantastic who created a Life Raft that allowed the group to survive the final incursion.  The group then landed into god Doom's Battle World.

In Battleworld, the group ran into a group of Thors who are tasked with keeping order by Doom.  The beat the Thors but were then scattered by Doctor Strange.  Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive ended up being captured by Apocalypse and given to Doom who began to study them to see how they survived the last incursion.

Unworthy Thor
After the events of Battle World Proxima Midnight returns to the main Marvel Universe.
A mysterious stranger appears and tells Thanos about an extra Mjolnir that has appeared in their universe from the Ultimate Universe.  The stranger, Black Swan and Proxima Midnight pursue the hammer but are ultimately defeated by Thor (Odinson) and Beta Ray Bill.
Thanos is angry with the mysterious stranger for not bringing him an appropriate tribute.  In a show of force the stranger kills Proxima Midnight and reveals herself to be Hela goddess of death.

How do you beat Exeggutors? Pokemon Go questions

Let just be frank, Exeggutor is one of the weirdest Pokemon.
First how to say Exeggutor.   I think you say EX-Egg-Utor.  That has to be one of the funniest but weirdest names in Pokemon.  He also looks weird.  Weird as heck.  Kind of like a walking three headed tree dinosaur.  He kind of looks like he escaped out of Fragglerock.  To add to this weirdness is the fact that he is a dual type Pokemon.  To be exact a GRASS / PSYCHIC Pokemon.  That is a also a weird to think about.  He is basically a Psychic Plant.

Exeggutor is the evolved form of Exeggcute.  I have had no luck finding either Pokemon however my understanding is that Exeggcutes are fairly common in some places.  This has led to Exeggutors to start showing up in gyms.

One of the ways I see that that Exeggutors are doing well is that WATER Pokemon and in particular Vaporeon are very common in gyms.  In many cases many Pokemon trainers best Pokemon is a Vaporeon well GRASS attacks work very well against Water Pokemon and in this way Exeggutor can climb the rungs at many a gym.  As far as battling goes this is the first thing to note he is Vaporeon killer do not use Vaporeon against him.  He will make you pay.

You might ask how the dual type effects Exeggutor.  As far as I can tell he inherits the trait of both Psychic and GRASS Pokemon in full.  So he basically has a big group he does very well against and a big group he does poorly against.

HOW TO FIGHT and BEAT an Exeggutor?
What is best Pokemon to use vs Exeggutor?

Remember that Pokemon Types are very IMPORTANT
Read this --->  Pokemon Types Explained

Alright this multi headed monster has been on top of that gym enough. Lets saw this psychic tree down.  TIMBER!!!!!!!!  Lets get Strategic.

As said above Exeggutor is both  GRASS  and PSYCHICthis means attacks from these types will do well against him BUG, DARK,  GHOST, FIRE, ICE, POISON, and FLYING.

Mean while damage from PSYCHIC, ElectricGRASS, GROUND, WATER and Fighting will do far less damage.

What counters to use:
Top Offensive Counters against Exeggecutor by the numbers

  • Gengar
  • Flareon
  • Charizard
  • Pinsir
  • Houndoom
  • Typhlosion
Gengar is a great offensive option but note that he has a major weakness defensively to Exeggecutor's psychic move set.

Steel Pokemon are best from a defensive perspective consider here:

  • Steelix
  • Shuckle

Offense Considerations:
Good choices that I have seen do well are FIRE Pokemon like Archanine, Flareon, Magmar, Rapidash,  and Charizard.  I have also had good battles with simple FLYING Pokemon like Golbat and Pigeot.  A lot of these Pokemon are pretty common so it is likely you will have one of them built up

The big mistake I see people making against Exeggutor is using Vaporeon against it.  Don't do that, pick a FIRE pokemon instead and you should be fine.

BUG Pokemon like Pinsir, Parasect, Scyther work well against Exeggutor.
I have begun having great success against Exeggutor by using bug Pokemon particular Parasect and Scyther.  If you use either you want to make that both of their moves are Bug.

I really recommend using them or another bug Pokemon against him.
DARK Pokemon are also a good choice.  Depending on its the Exeggutor's attacks this could actually be the best choice.  Read on below on Defensive considerations.

Defense considerations:
One thing that makes Exeggutor difficult from a defensive standpoint is that if it can have a variety of attacks that could vary between PSYCHIC and GRASS this means that its PSYCHIC attacks will still do normal damage to you if picked a FIRE /FLYING Pokemon.  However if it has GRASS attacks your FIRE/FLYING Pokemon will receive only half damage.  Only one type of Pokemon receives half damage from PSYCHIC and GRASS  attacks and that is Steel.  This makes Steel pokemon a solid defensive choice, however Steel Pokemon are very rare.

If the Exeggutor uses PSYCHIC attacks then the overall best pokemon type is definitely a DARK these Pokemon have powerful (Potentially total) immunity to PSYCHIC attacks and also get a x2 attack bonus.  However, Dark Pokemon ARE RARE!!!  I have had zero luck catching any of them.  I think the most common would be a Houndour but I have not seen one of them.

Overall while Steel and DARK certainly have their merits I see most people using a FLYING or FIRE pokemon.  While not perhaps the overall best type they do hold a powerful advantage over Exeggutor.
