Space Goat to sell micro shares of itself through Wefunder.com

Space Goat is a comic publisher that always seems to be willing to try new things. The company acts as a one part publisher and another part design studio selling artistic services to corporations, comic creators and game makers. The company's most well known license is likely Howling best known from the 1981 film "The Howling". The license used by Spacegoat to create a 4 issue series Revenge of the Wolf Queen and a Howling Board Game.

Spacegoat also created an interesting initiative last year where they invited various retailers to form a group to give the small publisher advice.

Now Spacegoat is trying something even more unique.  They are going to use something called Wefunder so comic fans can buy a small part of the company and effectively own part of a comic book publisher.  See the press release from Space Goat below:

Press Release
In a bold move to allow fans to become even more invested in a company they support, Space Goat Productions will launch a fundraising campaign via equity crowdfunder Wefunder.com. Investors will join a community of other investors who seek to help SGP expand their presence in the board game and comic book marketplaces--and own micro shares of the publisher in the process. The fundraising campaign will run for a period of 45 days.
“We want to make cool stuff with and for fans,” stated Founder and CEO Shon Bury. “It's a core tenant of our mission. Equity crowdfunding provides the perfect opportunity to show our fans how sincere we are,” he continues. “We aren’t the first comic-book company to ever offer shares to fans, but we are taking it one step further by allowing anyone to buy a micro share for just $100 and by offering our Kickstarter backers a 20% discount if they elect to buy-in at this funding round. We are also offering a great perk to comic book retailers. That’s how much our crowdfunding community and retail partners mean to us.”
On May 2016, thanks to a law called Regulation Crowdfunding, it became legal for everyone to invest small amounts of money in the companies they believe in. Wefunder was created to provide an easy avenue for regular people, not Wall Street experts, to actually become stakeholders with the companies they already support with purchases. This form of funding fit perfectly into the long range plans and overall vision of Space Goat Productions and its CEO Shon Bury. This next step has been in the works for over a year.

      Bio:

Requiem is mysterious but is called in promotion an Incarnate of Death.  In previous Infinity War stories Thanos has had the aim of impressing Death so it seems likely Requiem and Thanos will have some kind of relationship.

Requiem is not simply called Death but rather seems to be another character from the past that has now undertaken the mantle of Death.

The appearance of Requiem reveals that the character has a kind of Armor, with a cowl coverd face and a  lightning sword.  The face of Requiem is covered by a black mask, whose eyes are called out with the infinity symbol.

      Identity Mystery:
The true identity of the character is unknown here are some theories:

      • Magus - The evil doppelganger of Infinity War was killed and replaced by Ultron in the Original Infinity War.  Tying a character back to the other Infinity War series would seem to make sense.
      • Punisher - The Punisher has been mentioned a few times primarily due to his affinity for killing.

Who is Iron Man? Marvel Wiki

Iron Man is a Marvel hero, known for wearing a high tech, armored suit to fight evil.  He is a founding member of the Avengers super group.  Iron Man / Tony Stark has been played by Robert Downey Jr. in the Movies: Iron Man, Iron Man II, Iron Man III and Avengers.  He is set to appear in the upcoming movie Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

      Real Name:  Tony Stark

      Alias:  Iron Man

First Appearance: Tales of Suspense #39 (1963)

Importance of Iron Man I Film:
The Iron Man I movie is important to Marvel because it was the first major hit of the company producing its own films.  Many of Movie Studio's doubted Marvel's ability to build a film universe because the film rights of Marvel's traditional heavy weight characters of the Fantastic Four, X-Men and Spider-Man.  Iron Man had often struggled to maintain a continious line of comics in the same way X-Men and Spider-Man.  The success of the film proved that Marvel could make hit films off its lesser known characters.

      Fun Fact:
The idea of the character is said to come from Stan Lee.  He wanted to create a character based off what every one hated at the time and make them love him.  Tony Stark is billionaire, industrialist, weapon maker and thus supporter of wars.  At the time of his creation in the 1960s none of these things were popular.  None the less, with his brash brilliance Tony Stark won over legions of fans.

          Bio:
           http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/brainiac/ironman1.jpg

Tony Stark a brilliant, billionaire, weapons manufacture is kidnapped.  The group that kidnaps Stark demands that he build them a weapon of mass destruction.  During his capture Stark is grievously wounded in his chest, and he is barely holding on to life.  Stark manages to outsmart his captors by building and armored suit that acts to both keep him alive and allows him to escape.

Back in the United States, Stark decides to improve the armor he made.  He adds a variety of capabilities to it, including propulsion, weapons, and sensors.  Using his advanced suit and his brilliant mechanical mind Stark goes around the world protecting the innocent as Iron Man.

Due to the wound sustained during his kidnapping there is a piece of shrapnel being held away from Stark's heart by a magnetic plate.  If he removes the magnetic plate the shrapnel will move toward his heart and kill him.  Stark must routinely recharge the chest plate to keep his heart working normally.  Stark tells the world that Iron Man is his body guard and uses him as a corporate mascot.

As he was created during the Cold War many of Iron Man early feats are against Communism.  He battles the soviet spy the Black Widow.  He then goes on to battle communist versions of Iron Man like the Crimson Dynamo and Titanium Man.  Iron Man is generally fighting the forefront of contemporary concerns, whether they be corporate responsibility, espionage or recently terrorism.

One of Iron Man's most enduring villains is with the villain the Mandarin.  The Mandarin is an Asian villain who uses 10 magical rings to battle Iron Man.  The head to head battles between the two men have long been popular in part because it puts science and technology up against magic.

          Skills / Powers:
          • Brilliant mechanical genius
          • Cyberpathic connection to suit

The Controversy over Rocket Raccoon's first appearance

One would think that a relatively new character like Rocket Raccoon there would be a definitive answer on where he first appeared.  In truth there is a massive controversy swirling on where he actually first appeared.  I have seen borderline fist fights over this issue in comic book stores and comic cons.  There is an intense disagreement amongst the Marvel Aficionados as to what actually counts as Rocket's first appearance.  Scrolling the web on multiple sites you will find different answers.

Some people say he appeared in Marvel Preview #7 others say in Incredible Hulk #271 why the controversy?

          First which was printed first:
Incredible Hulk #271 came out in May 1982

Marvel Preview #7came out in the Summer of 1976
So Marvel Preview was definitely printed first.

Unfortunately there are problems with Marvel Preview #7 that cause a slew of questions.

The first problem is that Marvel Preview #7 is not a comic book it is a black and white magazine and its stories where not always considered to be in continuity of the main Marvel Universe.  Some people argue that appearances in the magazine do not count as the first appearance of the character in the Marvel Universe.  The magazines were more like ad promos and not really Marvel canon.  Given the fact that Marvel Preview #7 is not a comic we can say definitely that the first comic appearance of Rocket Raccoon is Hulk #271.

More problems with Marvel Preview #7
Hulk #271 supporters take this one step farther and say that Rocket Raccoon never appeared in Marvel Preview #7 at all.  The character in Marvel Preview #7 is a separate talking Raccoon character who lives 10 thousand years in the future and calls himself Rocky.  He does  not have a giant gun, he does not mention halfworld or his girl friend Lyla, he also talks in a medieval antediluvian dialect unlike the Rocket Raccoon we see in other Marvel Stories.  The costume of the character also looks more fantasy based than the pure sci fi Raccoon we see in the rest of the stories.

When you look at this Rocky character you see a character that clearly resembles Rocket Raccoon but is not Rocket Raccoon.  The setting is that he is in a  fantasy scifi hybrid story called Sword and Star kind of like a Prince Valiant story 10 thousand years in the future.  Sword and Star and the main character prince are not considered canon anymore at Marvel. Prince Wayfair was considered to be the creator of the Microverse which was critical to the Micronauts a comic tie in to a set of toys in the 80s.  The Micronauts rights are no longer owned by Marvel though, they sold them to Hasbro.   People who claim Marvel Preview #7 is the first appearance point out that there are not many talking raccoons in comics period, and that both Rocky and Rocket were created by the same creator Bill Mantlo.  Also and this is a big one in favor of Marvel Preview #7 Walrun calls Rocket by both the name Rocky and Rocket in Hulk #271.

Hulk #271 supporters would counter that Rocket could never end up 10 thousand years in the future with a guy not in Marvel canon, talk entirely differently, not mention his home planet, and totally alter his costume.  Plus not sport a giant gun or otherwise act or resemble  like Rocket other than being a talking raccoon.

          My take:
To me when you look at Marvel Preview #7 you don't see Rocket Raccoon you see a character precursor to Rocket Raccoon.  There is just something intrinsically not right about the character that appears in Marvel Preview #7.

Bill Mantlo was working toward the idea of Rocket Raccoon but he is not there yet.  The Rocket in the story appears more like a medieval character and fantasy story.  He speaks different and appears to have an entirely different origin than the Rocket Raccoon that exists on Halfworld.  He does not mention his friends on Halfworld, or Halfworld at all.  The Rocky Raccoon exists 10 thousand years in the future dealing with a character that I'm not sure Marvel even has the rights to now.  It is obvious that Bill is working toward Rocket Raccoon but does he get all the way there in Marvel Preview #7? In my eyes he does not.

Imagine there was a story prior to the accepted first appearance of Spider-Man where a character in a swashbuckling pirate ship on a planet of Bisbanai, has the powers of Spider-Man and calls himself Petey Parky.  He wears a mask like Spider-Man but talks in a pirate accent.  Would you accept this as the first appearance of Spider-Man?
I would not accept this at all.  Amazing Fantasy #15 the actual first appearance of Spider-Man contains nearly the exact character of Spider-Man as we know him today. He is from the same place, with the same powers, the same name, the same origins as the Spider-Man series that comes after him.  This is not at all the case with Marvel Preview #7 and Rocky the Raccoon.  This is why I see Rocky the Raccoon character in Marvel Preview #7 as a pure character precursor to Rocket Raccoon.

In Hulk #271 by contrast the Rocket Raccoon is almost entirely fleshed out as the Rocket Raccoon we know today and appears again in Bill Mantlo's  Rocket Raccoon Solo series.

It is very similar to George Lucas's early drafts of Star Wars that showed a character called Annikin Starkiller.  Annakin Starkiller had qualities of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Han Solo.  Eventually, in later drafts he was rewritten into the other main characters. If you had a book with Annakin Starkiller in it, you would not claim to have the first appearance of Han Solo or Luke Skywalker.

To me Marvel Preview #7 is CLEARLY the first appearance of Rocky the Raccoon a character that is a precursor to Rocket Raccoon much like Annakin Starkiller.

Hulk #271 is the first appearance of Rocket Raccoon in print and comic form.  Marvel Preview #7 is the first appearance of Rocky Raccoon the precursor to Rocket Raccoon.

Both are very cool, both are part of comic history and both should be worth a lot!

Look at the panels of Rocky Raccoon in Marvel Preview #7 and Hulk #271 what do you think?  The black and white images are from Marvel Preview and the colored ones are from Hulk 271.

Cobra Kai to explore Karate Kid characters 34 years later

Karate Kid has had a lot of sequels but Cobra Kai is unique in a few ways.  First its going to focus its attention more on the villain of original Karate Kid in Johnny Lawrence.  What happened to Daniel what happened to Johnny?  What kind of adults are they?  Perhaps more importantly can a person who was a bully in Highschool be redeemed as an adult.  The other unique thing about Cobra Kai is the fact that the series will be distributed through Youtube Red.  This is one of the largest projects I have seen go to that platform. This is Karate Kid having fun with its characters and its history and doing so in a smart way.

In some ways this is the story of the Bad Karate Kid trying to become the Good Karate Kid, but can he?

I also am going to flat out say that in a world where Dodge Ball has become banned because its too mean I kind of like the idea of an old bad guy returning to teach the world about toughness.  I think the world could use a little more grit.

          Episode 1:

          Episode 2:

          Episode 3

          Synopsis:
In the highly-anticipated return of two iconic characters, the arch-rivals from the legendary Karate Kid film series reunite over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Now living in the affluent hills of Encino, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) leads an enviable life with his beautiful family, while running a successful string of car dealerships throughout the valley.

Meanwhile, his high school adversary, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), whose life has taken a rocky turn, seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. Their lives inevitably become intertwined and the rivalry is reignited, setting forth the next generation of “karate kids” in COBRA KAI, a YouTube Red Original Series.

COBRA KAI also stars Courtney Henggeler (Mom, Fixed) as Daniel’s wife, Amanda; Vanessa Rubio (How to Be Single) as Carmen, single mother and Johnny’s girlfriend; Xolo Maridueña as Carmen’s son, Miguel; and Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) as Robby, Cobra Kai recruit with an agenda of his own.

          Who is Graviton?

Graviton is a powerful villain who has often battled the Avengers and the Thunderbolts.  He has the power to control gravity which means he can lift up buildings, objects, and persons.  He can hold an army of heroes in the air helpless.  Franklin Hall appeared in the first season of Agents of SHIELD as a scientist working on Gravitonium.  Hall disappears inside of the Gravitonium.  The Gravitonium is revealed to be powering the Light House space station in Season 5 Episode 8 of "Together or not at All".

          Real Name: Franklin Hall

Alias(es):  Graviton, Master of the Fundamental Force

          First Appearance: Avengers #158 (1977)

          Affiliation(es): A.I.M.

          Bio:

Franklin Hall is a world renowned physicist from Canada.  An experiment that goes wrong causes graviton particles to merge with his own molecules.  This result him being able to control gravity.

While first he hides his ability he becomes seduced by the idea of power.  He takes on a costume and becomes a supervillain.

In his first major criminal effort he attacks a scientific facility by lifting it high in the air.  He is able to almost fully demobilize the Avengers with the exception of Black Panther. Black Panther sneaks away and summons Thor for aid.  The two battle and eventually defeat Graviton.  Graviton is seemingly killed.  He returns, dies, and returns again.

Examples of his power in use:
He once lifted a 4 mile wide landmass into the air and caused it to float.

Graviton may have been created in an episode of Agents of SHIELD

Franklin Hall appeared in the first season of Agents of SHIELD as a scientist working on Gravitonium.  Hall disappears inside of the Gravitonium.  Coulson was unable to save Hall from being sucked into the substance.

Garrett at one point mentions that he can sense a presence in the substance.

The Gravitonium is taken by villains Ian Quinn and Rainna in Season 1 but is not mentioned again for the next few seasons.

In Season 5 Gravitonium appears again.  The Gravitonium is revealed to be powering the Light House space station in Season 5 Episode 8 of "Together or not at All".  Fitz finds cannisters of Gravitonium that appear to be the powersource of the Lighthouse space station.  This is the most signifcant mention of Gravitonium in the show since season 1.

The Gravitonium is merged with the character Glenn Talbot making him into the MCU version of Graviton.

Who is Captain America?  Marvel Wiki

Captain America is a hero in the Marvel Universe.  Multiple characters have worn the mantle of Captain America but the man most associated with it is Steve Rogers.

The Captain America in the comics has recently been revealed to be a Hydra agent for thoughts on this see our podcast below.

                Captain America Multimedia:

                Captain America News:

                Villains:

                Steve Rogers Bio:
Steve Rogers is born to a poor family in New York City.  While he is tough and strong willed, his body is frail and weak.  As War World II begins Rogers tries to enlist but is rejected due to his physical limitations.

                Project Rebirth
The strong will of Rogers, impresses US General Chester Phillips who selects Rogers to be the test subject of, "Project: Rebirth" a US Super Soldier project.  Project Rebirth is the brainchild of Dr Abraham Erskine who is a German defector and renowned biochemist.  Erksine had spent much of his life studying the human species and had a long history of experimenting with diets, work out programs, and serums that use vita rays.  Erskine is appalled when he witnesses Baron Zemo and Hitler use a deathray on an innocent human test subject.  Afterward, Erksine fakes his death and defects to the United States.  He takes the alias Josef Reinstein to hide himself from the Third Reich and begins to work on Super Soldier formula for the United States.

The experiment on Steve Rogers is a stunning success.  Rogers goes from being a weak man to a person in peak Olympic level condition.  Rogers effectively can run as fast as the fastest man, has the strength of the strongest man etc.  While not a super human perse the combination of having all of the peak level human capabilities make him nearly equal to one.

Project Rebirth has been shown taking various forms of injections, oral serums and rays.  All of the steps were not recorded by Erskine.  Dr Erskine is killed by a Nazi spy before he can repeat the process or record its steps, leaving the United States with only one super soldier Steve Rogers.

Note: There have been numerous attempts to duplicate Project: Rebirth that have typically had terrible results.  These attempts include the creation of the Hulk villain the Abomination, as well as Manthing.

                WW2
The United States Military is not happy about having only one super soldier and do not initially know what to do with Rogers.  Eventually, the US Military brand him as a patriotic American hero meant to inspire the troops as a counter weight to the Axis Super Villains like the much feared Red Skull.

Captain America gains a side kick when the teenage mascot of an American platoon Bucky Barnes discovers Steve Roger's true identity. He works with Peggy Carter, Bucky Barnes and the Howling Commandos to defeat the Axis powers.

Captain America  and Bucky become a counter intelligence team often battling behind enemy lines and thwarting the aims of Hitler, Baron Zemo and the Red Skull.  Captain America and Bucky also fight in the Superhuman group called the Invaders always battling the Nazis.

As WW2 is in its closing chapter Captain America and Bucky find themselves on an experimental drone plane containing a massive explosive.   The plane explodes over the Antarctic and both Bucky and Captain America are presumed dead.

                Revived and Avengers
                 http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/11155/3655942-8837604824-capta.jpg
The body of Captain America is found in a block ice.  He has been frozen but kept alive since 1945.  His survival is in part due to the enhancements to his body from Project: Rebirth.

With his peak human abilities, military experience and martial training the revived Captain America assumes leadership of the Avengers.  He has generally been considered the leader of the Avengers since that time.

Nick Fury who has been preserved by the infinity formula is now in charge of SHIELD and Captain America often undertakes missions to battle Hydra, Communistic and Nazi elements on behalf of SHIELD.   He stops villains from getting the powerful bloodstones an adventure that puts him against a resurgent Baron Zemo and a new scrappy fighter, Crossbones.  While working for SHIELD Captain meets and falls in love with Sharon Carter AKA Agent 13 who is the niece of his former WW2 compatriot Peggy Carter.

Captain America also develops a lasting partnership with the first African American superhero, Sam Wilson the Falcon.  The Falcon has the ability to fly and has a strong martial skills.

During the Watergate scandal that engulfs the country Steve Rogers  feels disillusioned by the United States.  He takes off his patriotic costume and rides across the country under the moniker Nomad (A man without a country).  He drives a motorcycle, wears a black outfit, and battles crime as he goes through the countryside.

He later returns to his Captain America role and leads the heroes of Earth in the Secret Wars and in the Infinity War.

                Civil War

During the event known as Civil War, Captain America leads the opposition to the pro-registration movement headed by Roger's longtime friend Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
This story arc ends when Captain America being led to trial is assassinated.  Initially it was believed that Crossbones had killed Captain America however it later revealed that the act was done by a brain washed Sharon Carter.

During this time many men consider wearing the Captain America Mantle including Clint Barnes/Hawkeye, Frank Castle / The Punisher, and Sam Wilson / The Falcon.  In the end the mantle goes to Bucky Barnes who had been revived earlier as the Winter Soldier.

Steve Rogers is later revealed to be alive and returns but allows Bucky to keep the Captain America Mantle.  During the "Fear It Self" storyline Bucky is seemingly killed and Rogers returns as Captain America.

Recently, the super human serum with Steve Rogers has been neutralized causing him to age rapidly.  Now in the body of old man Rogers has backed off from the front lines and serves as coordinator and general.

The mantle of Captain America is now worn by Sam Wilson formerly known as the Falcon.

                Return and Hydra

In a controversial move Marvel has reintroduced Steve Rogers Captain America but this has come with the revelation that Captain America has been working for Hydra since WWII.  He was converted into a Hydra agent by his mother and has worked for the organization ever since.

It seems the character Kobik who is the living embodiment of the cosmic cube was used by the Red Skull to convert Rodgers into believing he has always been a Hydra agent.

Rodgers had sought out Kobik to help end the villain assault on Pleasant Hill.  However, the meeting was set up in advance by the Red Skull.  Crossbones appeared and began to brutally beat Steve Rodgers.  Rodgers had the superhuman serum removed from his body and was thus old and no match for Crossbones.  Wanting to help Rodgers, Kobik altered to Rodgers to be in Kobik's mind perfect.  This meant returning the serum to his body, deaging him into his prime and also making him a loyal believer in Hydra.  In Kobik's mind Hydra made more sense than SHIELD.

Kobik did not change the past but effectively altered Rodgers memories.  This plan may have worked out too well as Rodgers surpassed the Red Skull as the Number 1 Leader of Hydra and killed off Red Skull.  Rodgers then amassed an army of loyal supervillains to take over the world in the name of Hydra.

                Captain America's Shield
Captain America uses his Shield both to protect him and as a weapon.  It is made of a metal alloy fusing Iron and Vibranium.  The process that made the Shield has never been duplicated.

Much like the Captain America mantle itself the Shield serves as a symbol of hope and freedom.

                Powers:
Captain America has all the peak human capabilities of a human.  He can run as fast as the fastest man, has the strength of the strongest man.  All of his physical skills such as his endurance, his reflexes, agility, and immunity to disease are at this peak level.

His intelligence is not increased but it is not hindered either.

Captain America has a life time of martial experiences both on the front lines in wars, serving on various superhuman squads as well as a counter espionage agent.

He is considered to be a great leader as well as a moral compass of the entire Marvel universe.  He is in effect a living symbol of American values.

Other Men who have worn the Captain America Mantle:

The two primary characters to have worn the mantle of Captain America are Bucky Barnes and the Falcon

                Captain America; Civil War:
Captain America breaks from his Avengers as a Super Hero registration act is forced upon the powered community.  His battle to protect his old best friend Bucky leads him into the cross hair of Iron Man.  At the end of the film Rogers gives Tony Stark his Shield.

                Avengers Infinity War:
                Chris Evans with Nomad look

Captain America is no more.  Steve Rogers now goes by the name of Nomad and wears a black outfit.  He no longer has any connection to the Avengers and is effectively a fugitive.  When duty calls and the world is faced with an oncoming calamity will he remain away from the Avengers?  Or will he come back to be Captain America?

                Who are the Kree?

The Kree are a militaristic alien species in the Marvel Universe.  The Kree look generally human, they are stronger that humans and some (Pure Kree) have blue skin.   In the comic 616 universe most Kree have pink skin and appear like a Caucasian human.  In the Marvel Cinematic Universe it appears they will come in blue and a variety of human flesh tones.
They are stronger and more durable humans due to evolving on a planet with higher gravity than Earth.  They require a breathing apparatus on Earth that increases the amount of Nitrogen in the air.

                Kree News:

                Powers:
The Kree are generally stronger than humans.  They have greater technology than Earth.  Some of their advanced technology is unique to them.
Kree females can sometimes influence men.  They also occasionally have the ability drain one's life force.

                Religion/Government -Supreme Intelligence
Kree worship and following the dictatorial Supreme Intelligence.  The Supreme Intelligence is an artificial mind that includes a network of the greatest Kree minds over the ages.  It was originally meant to serve the Kree leaders but eventually usurped control.
The Supreme Intelligence has lost control of the empire numerous times.  At certain times the Kree are ruled by Ronan the Accuser.  Also other alien empires have ruled them including the Shi'Ar and the Inhumans.

                Location:
The Kree Empire stretches over many planets in a dwarf galaxy called the Large Megallanic Cloud.  The Megallanic Cloud orbits the Milky Way.
Within the Cloud the key home world of the Kree is the planet Hala.   Hala is the planet where the Kree hero Mar Vell is born.  It includes the city Rad Nam, Mar Vell's birth place.  Also Kree Lar one of the largest most powerful States within the planet.  It is also home to "Supremor" also known as the Supreme Intelligence which generally rules over the Kree as a dictator.

                Notable Kree:
Mar Vell - Who is Mar Vell?
Ronan the Accuser - Who is Ronan the Accuser?
Korath the Pursuer -Who is Korath the Pursuer?
Doctor Minerva - Who is Doctor Minerva?
                Captain Atlas -
                Supremor - Who is Supremor?
Supreme Intelligence - Who is the Kree Supreme Intelligence?

                History:
Fast ways to describe the Kree are -"Advanced but stagnant" or "A Great Empire in decline."  How did they get here.

                Static DNA:
Early on in the Kree a Kree attempts to take control of a Universal Crystal that would give him God like powers.  He is thwarted and the Kree race pays the price for this.  The Crystal punishes the entire race of Kree by holding their genes static.  Effectually, while they were more advanced than most species at the time, they are being held back while other races will catch up and eventually surpass them.
Humanity while technologically a backwater has very dynamic genes in the Marvel Universe due to the Mutant phenomenon.  A mutant is destined to destroy the Supreme Intelligence and this causes the Kree to hold humans in great interest.  At one point experiments on humans lead to the creation of another cosmic power the Inhumans.  The Inhuman project was abandoned for unknown reasons.

                Pink (Human Flesh Toned) Kree:
The traditional/Pure Kree have blue skin, but they come in other skin colors/tones.
To circumscribe their static DNA the Kree begin breeding with other races.  One successful offshoot of this is the "Pink" Kree.  In the comics the Pink Kree resemble Caucasian humans, which is how Mar Vell is able to infiltrate Earth without anyone noticing.  The Pink Kree in the movies will likely come in a wide range of flesh tones so they can appear Asian, African, etc.  The "Pink" Kree make up 70% of the population of the Kree, however the Blue Kree still retain control of society.  The "Blue Kree" make up a bulk of the Kree elites.  The Kree are fairly supremacist in their views of themselves and no female Kree are allowed to breed with non-Kree, only Males can breed outside the species.  While the inter breeding is occurring due to their own genetic stagnation they still tend to look down on the Kree/Alien hybrids.

The Skrulls at the time a peaceful race seek out a new species to trade with.  They find the two species the Cotati and the Kree.  The Skrulls offer the gift of intergalactic travel to a species that wins a competition.  A group of Kree and Cotati are left in a wilderness and told to show what they can build.  The Cotati build a magnificent garden and the Kree build a massive, beautiful city.  The Kree are angered when they learn some of the Skrulls favor the Cotati garden over their advanced City.  Taking matters into their own hands they wipe out the Skrull delegation and the Cotati.  They take apart the Skrull ship to learn its secrets.  They go across the galaxy killing off nearly all but a few hidden Cotati and begin a war with the Skrulls.

First Kree - Skrull War and other Wars
After the Kree exterminate the Skrull delegation the two races go to war.  While, the Skrulls begin the war with more advanced technology the Kree are more ruthless and the Skrulls have forgotten how to wage war.  While humans are dragged into some of the conflicts these to be a microcosm of overall never ending conflicts between the two.

                Negabomb - Grey Kree
The Kree empire finds 70% of its population wiped out due to a Negabomb.  Initially, they suspect outside sources but eventually learn it was planned by the Supreme Intelligence to jump start their DNA.  For a short time this worked giving rise to a grey skinned Kree species that could instantly evolve to its environment.  In the end the Kree revert back and the Empire is greatly weakened by its loss of population.

                Weakened Kree
The Kree end up a state beneath the Inhumans, and the Shi'ar.

GH 325 alien body of a Kree on Earth

Agents of SHIELD has already shown the body of a Kree. There is also Kree writing and Kree blood seem to be critical parts of the future series.  Kree blood was used to bring back both Skye, and Coulson.  Kree circle/ line patterns have shown up in multiple episodes of the series.

Kree Circle Writing on Agents of SHIELD

Kree will be an important race within the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.  Multiple major characters will be Kree in the movie.  Including Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Destroyer.   Ronan the Accuser (A notable Kree) is working for Thanos but he only represents a group of Kree zealots not the full empire.

Eldritch Code and its Comic Book Origins

A new film based off Lovecraftian horrors is out and has an interesting modern take on of Lovecraft's favorite themes.  Lovecraft was fond of having artists, intellectuals, and academics stumble upon secret knowledge that was so horrific that it would totally clash with their values and beliefs and cause psychosis or even worse.  What is the modern equivalent of an academic how about IT Support?  What is the modern equivalent of ancient tomb of vile knowledge? How about a malicious computer virus.

Eldritch Code is a film made by director Ivan Radovic and is based off of a BOOM! Studios short called Clthulhu Tales anthology called "One of those days" by Writer Glen Cadigan and artist Chee.  Clthululhu Tales was a 12 issue anthology with each issue being a separate short story.

                Carol Danvers Multi-Media:

                Bio:
Carol Danvers is an Airforce officer when exposure from an accident with Mar Vell turns her into a super kree/human hybrid.  The accident gives Carol the same amazing powers as Mar Vell (The original Captain Marvel at least within Marvel). Carol uses her military skills and new super powers to become a super hero.
Over the years her character has come in and out of publication.  She has enjoyed increased popularity over the past decade being a critical character in some of Marvel's big events like Civil War and Secret Invasion.  She currently has taken on the mantle of Captain Marvel and has been making cameos in the current Guardians of the Galaxy series.

                Super Hero Name:
Carol initially calls herself Ms Marvel but has changed her name a few times, she has been called Binary, Warbird and currently holds the mantle of Captain Marvel.

                Powers:
                • Carol is very powerful her powers include:
                • Super Strength, Durability, and speed
                • Impervious to poisons and toxins
                • Can fire energy blasts from hands
                • Can fly at 6 times the speed of sound
                • Has a sixth sense that gives her limited precognition
                • Can absorb and release energy (Though not magical energy)

                Controversy:
Ms Marvel was the first female character at Marvel to be a gender bending clone of a male character.  There was a variety of criticism of the character for being nothing but a female version of Mar Vell.  These female versions of popular male characters had been popular with DC for a longtime.  Feminists critics have attacked the practice because the character created tends to be nothing but a copy of an already existing character and because the Male character was first they tend to take on a secondary position, side kick, subservient position to the male character.

Ms Marvel stories elicited even more controversy after she was the focus of a bizarre storyline involving an alien villain named Marcus.  In the story Ms Marvel is brain washed by Marcus and has his child, who then grows into an adult version of Marcus.   At Earth at the time Marcus tells the Avengers he is bringing Ms Marvel back into space.  Ms Marvel still brain washed agrees.  The Avengers though slightly shocked let the two go without a fight.  Critics of the story line  point out that by Marcus brainwashing Carol he robbed her of her will.  He was in effect raping her, and the Avengers basically condoned his actions.

Later writers have tried to address these complaints.  First the Marcus story was altered out of existence by famous X-Men writer Chris Claremont.  2nd Carol has grown in importance and now has taken over the name/mantle of her male counterpart and is now called Captain Marvel.  This would be the equivalent of Supergirl taking over the name Superman, or Batgirl taking over the main Batman name.

NOTE: It has been pointed out in the comments that this is a bit unfair to DC.  Captain is a gender neutral description, while  Batman uses the male description of man in the name.  It would thus sound off to call a female by the name Batman as opposed to Batwoman.  Either way it is still a big deal.

                MCU:

Carol Danvers has yet to appear in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).  On October 28th, 2014, Marvel announced Carol Danvers will have her own movie under the moniker "Captain Marvel".  The movie will be released July 6, 2018.

Images of Brie Larson on set:

Brie Larson has been seen sporting a green and black Captain Marvel suit.  While generally Captain Marvel is thought to have been in Red, Blue and Yellow outfit certain Captain Marvel's have worn a green costume notably Genis Vell.  The original Captain Marvel was Mar-Vell and while his costume changed overtime his initial suit was also green.  It seems likely that this suit harkens back to the original Captain Marvel suit.

                Brie Larson Announced:
San Diego Comic Con 2016 it was announced that actress Brie Larson will play Carol Danver in the Captain Marvel film.  Brie Larson is previously known for playing  Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs the World and as Kate the rebellious daughter in the show United States of Tara.

Brie Larson was announced during a huge Marvel panel that included all of the Marvel actors at San Diego Comic Con 2016.

The Toronto Film Festival Brie was asked about the importance of playing Captain Marvel and said that:
"I have very specific reasons for doing film, and they don’t have to do with me or getting my face plastered on more objects. It’s about the material. And movies live on and can be places I can’t, and I want to be conscious about what it is that I’m presenting to the world, and what those representations of life are, and how they’re being shared. And obviously Marvel is such an incredible platform to be able to share in storytelling… I think what ‘Captain Marvel’ represents, and what this film is shaping up to be, has a message that’s undeniably important to the world right now."
In a separate interview at Toronto Film Festival
"The thing that’s been the most exciting now is on social media I get sent a lot of pictures of young girls in the Captain Marvel costume and I’m excited to see more of that. She’s such a great symbol for young girls, and realizing what a deficit we have, that we don’t have more of those. I think it’s really cool to see a girl in a Batman costume or a Spider-Man costume, but I’m really excited that there’s a symbol of women. I think that’s really important."

Could Glenn Talbot be an Inhuman?

In the episode of  Agents of SHIELD called a "Fractured House" Talbot is giving a speech when a Hydra mercenary Marcus Scarlotti AKA Whiplash attacks the group.  Scarlotti is impersonating SHIELD and is also testing a new Hydra weapon based upon the Inhuman Diviner.  It effectively kills anyone without Inhuman DNA.

The device used is a splinter bomb where each splinter causes those hit to disintegrate.  Talbot is hit and wounded by the device but he does NOT disintegrate.

Question:  Did Talbot get hit with the device in this episode and survive?  This would mean he would be of Inhuman ancestry.  Rewatching the episode I do think he is wounded by the device and not by flying shrapnel.  This would mean that at some point Talbot could undergo the Terrigenesis process like Skye and Raina and become.....?

Comics will not shed much light here at all I am afraid.
The comic version of Glenn Talbot is not an Inhuman and died before the events of Inhumanity that spread Terrigen throughout the world revealing Inhumans all over the place.

I do think his appearance and personality are some what similar to the new character Nur/Frank who was a NYC detective before becoming a NuMan/Inhuman.

What do you think about an Inhuman Glenn Talbot?

                  Season 5 Update:
Glenn Talbot continues to be a major character in Season 5 however he does not seem to be an Inhuman.

In Season 5 we learn more Glenn Talbot and no he does not become Nur like I initially speculated however he did end up becoming a powered person.

Toward the end of Season 5 Talbot becomes infused with Gravitonium that gives him the power to control Gravity.  This sets the stage for him to be a version of the villain Graviton.

Jane Fosters Thor comes to an End in Thor 705

Jane Foster version of Thor has been controversial but no one can take away that she goes down in the current Thor #705 in epic fashion.   The story will continue from the fall out of her defeat of Mangog and her death in Thor #706.  The drama of the current story has made Thor into one of the most interesting comics on store shelves today.  The story offers what great Thor stories offer, epic over the top battles with great inner drama and bravery, drilling into the heart of what it is that makes someone a hero.  I always think a good Thor story has a cinematic quality and maybe a touch of Rock and Roll.  Thor #705 does not disappoint in any of these regards.

Thor #705 is on shelves now, Thor 706 will hit shelves on April 18th.

                  Spoilers

                  Spoilers

The comic opens right in the midst of action of Thor (Jane Foster) battling the super powerful Mangog.   All around them Asgardia is burning and they battle in flaming ruins.  While they fight the entire place is rocketing toward the sun.  Thor manages to temporaily trap Mangog and Odin and Freya take this opportunity to talk to Thor.  They ask her to leave so she can survive.  She refuses saying she needs to ensure that Mangog goes down and does not escape.  While they discuss this Thor (Odinson) arrives and he says he too will stay and fight Mangog to the end.   Thor (Jane Foster) is ultimately doomed as soon as she transfer from being Thor.  Odin tells Odinson that he wants the Hammer once she falls.

Mangog frees himself and begins to explain why he feels that all the Asgardians deserve to die and questions why a human such as Thor sacrifice herself to save them. She explains that she is not fighting for the gods but for Love.  "I fight for Love" she roars as tosses the Mangog toward the sun.  Mangog returns though burned and on fire, and royally angry.  The battle continues.  Thor wraps Mangog into the chians that had been used to bind Fenris and then attaches the chains to Mjolnir and throws the hammer toward the sun.  This effectively traps Mangog in rocket going into the sun.

Odinson then confronts Jane at first angry that she destroyed Mjolnir but then realizes that she has now no way to survive.  Without Mjolnir she will revert back to Jane and quickly there after die.  The two kiss as she reverts back to Jane.   The kiss continues as the whole city begins to fall apart around them.

Odin and Freya watch as Odinson returns from Asgardia carrying the limp form of Jane Foster in his arms.

Planets Kallu -Former home of a technologically advanced race called the Kallusians.  Kallusians had strong pink skin, pointy ears and white/gray hair.  They were forced off their planet by their enemies the Yirbek (Avengers #14).

                  Star System: Maklu
Planets Maklu IV / Kakarathara - Home of the Makluans.  Highly advanced species with dragon like appearance.  Generally, Makluans are peaceful with a democratic government.    A violent cell of Makluans visited Earth giving rise to legends of dragons in Asia and Britain.  The Mandarin gained/stole his 10 rings from an entombed Makluan named Fin Fang Foom (Ironman).

                  Star System: Aceta
Planet Krylor - Home of Krylorians.
Who are the Krylorians? Bereet and the Collector's assistant

Note: I made some adjustments to lore to meet facts.  I made a Tarnax system.  Currently held facts are that both Skrullos and the Tarnax planets are in the same star system of Drox.  This makes absolutely no sense so I created a new Star System called Tarnax that would hold the planets Tarnax II, Tarnax IV, and Tarnax X.  This seems very logical to me.
Tarnax System is more centrally located in the galaxy.  Drox is more on the outskirts this also makes sense.  Why would the Skrulls change the Throne planet from Skrullos in Drox to another planet unless it were significantly better located to run their empire.  Tarnax must be more centrally located within the Galaxy.
I also could not find what system Kymellia I and II are located in so I placed them in a system called Kym.

                  Who is Rocket Raccoon?

Rocket Raccoon is a hero in the Marvel universe.  He is known for being a member of the modern Guardians of the Galaxy team.  He is featured in the film Guardians of the Galaxy, with actor Bradley Cooper supplying his voice.

                  Real Name: Rocket

                  Alias: Rocket Raccoon, Trash Panda

Species: Genetically engineered animal to serve as Pilot / Law enforcement of the planet of Halfworld

First Appearance:  Either Hulk 271 or Marvel Preview 7.  I prefer Hulk #271 as I do not find Marvel Preview a non comic a fitting first appearance.  For more info see The Great Rocket Raccoon 1st Appearance Controversy

                  Home Planet: Halfworld

                  Rocket News:
James Gunn has said that Rocket Raccoon's origins are going to be explored in future films.  It is not clear if he meant Guardians of the Galaxy III or another film.  His comments were made at a Hasbro event called Hascon.

“We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It’s going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It’s a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it.”

At the same event Gunn said he was working on films "around" Guardians of the Galaxy III mentioning other cosmic films that included Nova and Adam Warlock.  Its possible that Rocket's origins could be made into its own film or simply be part of one of these other Cosmic Marvel films.

Rocket is from a planet called Half World. Half World is a planet for the mentally ill and is initially run by robots.  The robots eventually become sentient and decide they are bored with taking care of the loonies.  The robots don't want to be completely irresponsible though so they genetically alter the animals they have with them into caretakers.  Rocket is designed from a Raccoon to be the planet's law officer.  The robots strip mine the planet of its resources and take off in a giant ship leaving only half of the world left.  The world has an economic / political structure built around supplying toys to loonies.

He has a girl friend and a best friend on Halfworld.  Lyla an Otter is his girl friend and Walrun a Walrus is his best friend.  There is also a main adversary in Blackjack O'hare a rabbit mercenary who battles both with and against Rocket depending on his goals.  It is not clear if these character really existed or will be implanted memories in the movie and 616 version of the character.  The halfworld stories are a lot of fun but their style is whimisical and surrealistic and contrast with darker, angst ridden Rocket that is the current Guardians of the Galaxy.

Upon leaving the planet Rocket Raccoon is captured by the Kree (One group of Marvel aliens) and is freed by Star Lord where they form the Guardians of Galaxy the 2008 version.  He reappeared in the Marvel Universe in Annihilation / Thanos Imperative storylines and after being forgotten for decades is now a very popular character.

                  Powers and Skills:
Rocket is an expert fighter, pilot, and marksman.  He is a great strategist and is able to understand his opponents motivations and use them against them.
He also has the feral senses of a raccoon, increased smell, and hearing.
He does not possess super durability or strength.
Rocket tends to be outfitted with space ships and guns - lots and lots of guns.

While this does not sound super impressive his intelligence has allowed him to stand up to the biggest and baddest threats in the Marvel Universe.

Rocket Raccoon appears in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and is voiced actor Bradley Cooper.  An actor playing Rocket Raccoon for other actors to act with has been played by Sean Gunn (brother of James Gunn) who also plays the Ravager Kraglin.

                  Vol 1
Rocket and Groot are bounty hunters searching for prey on the planet of Xandar when they see Starlord who has had a large bounty placed on his head by Yondu.  Groot and Rocket battle Starlord but their capture of Starlord is interupted by Gamora who is attempting to escape with the Power Infinity Stone.  As the group battles they are all caught by the Nova Corps and brought to the intergaltic jail the Klynn.

At the Klynn the group meets Drax the Destroyers who initially wants to kill Gamora due to her past involvement with Thanos who killed his family.  He is convinced that Gamora is not the one he wants and that if he works with them to escape he can get his hands on Ronan and Thanos.

Rocket masterminds a daring escape from the Klynn that utilizes all the members skills of their new rag tag group.  The group goes to sell the gem to the Collector where Gamora hopes it can be safe.  This ends in a fiasco where the group decides the only safe place for the stone is the Nova Corps however the stone is confiscated by Ronan who decides he wants to use it to destroy the planet of Xandar and Nova Corps forever.

The newly minted Guardians of the Galaxy join with Ravager forces to attack Ronan's forces.  When Ronan tries to place the Power Stone on the ground an act that would destroy the world it is held up by Star Lord and the rest of the Guardians join hands to control the stones energies and save the planet.

Rocket's friend Groot sacrficied himself in the battle with Ronan but Rocket manages to regrow Groot from a piece of Groot's former body.  Rocket begins to raise the sapling Groot in the end of the film.

                  Vol 2
Rocket continues to act as Groot surrogate father as the group goes to battle a large Abelisk space beast as a job for a group called the Sovriegn.  While successful in their task Rocket steals special batteries from Soveriegn that infurtiates them.  The Soveriegn launch armada of drones after the Guardians to punish them for the theft.  The group is saved by a mysterious man named Ego who then claims be to Peter Quill's father.

Quill, Gamora and Drax decide to venture Ego's homeplanet while Rocket, and Groot stay behind with the captive Nebula to repair their ship.  The ship is found by the Ravagers whose strike is met by inguitive and deadly traps of Rocket.  However, in the end Rocket is forced to surrender when met by the deadly arrow of Yondu.  The Ravagers don't like Yondu's plan of releasing Rocket however and instead mutiny.  Rocket, Groot and Yondu find themselves as captives in the Ravager ship as the mutiny led by Nebula and Taserface kill off members of the group that are loyal to Yondu.

Yondu, Rocket, and Groot escape with the help of the last loyal Ravager Kraglin who gives Yondu a prototype Finn that can be used to control his deadly arrow.

The group then proceeds to the planet Ego where they find the rest of their Guardians in a battle with Ego.  They manage to plant a bomb in Ego's core and escape.  However, in order to save Star Lord, Yondu is forced to enter space without a suit.  He sacrifices himself to save Peter.

Rocket Raccoon is bizarre, creative, ironic, absurd, sad, and funny all these things bundled into one cute fury animal who sports giant guns, intelligence, and lots of humor. If you do not love him after you finish watching the movie, Marvel has really messed up.
Lets look at his history in the comics:

Rocket Raccoon is not one of the initial members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.  He is added into the 2008 incarnation (In my opinion the best incarnation) of the group.   This is also called the "Modern" Guardians of Galaxy as their stories take place in the present Marvel universe while their predecessors stories were in the 31st century.

His publication origins go back to the early 1980s.  His first appearance is Incredible Hulk #271.  There is some disagreement on this.  If you are curious see The Great Rocket Raccoon 1st Appearance Controversy.
