Who is Thanos?

Thanos is a major villain in the Marvel Universe.  He is bent on the destruction and end of all things.  He is closely associated with an item called the infinity of gauntlet that grants its user near omnipotent powers.  He is hunted down and opposed by the hero Drax the Destroyer.

Bio:
There is Big, there is Bad and then there is Thanos...




Thanos the name in Greek means either Death or Eternal depending on who I ask.  Either is an appropriate description of the character Thanos.

Thanos is the biggest of the big bads that Marvel has.   While other villains want to get rich, or conquer the world, Thanos wants to literally end existence in a bid to get Mistress Death to give him attention.

 He is super strong, intelligent, ruthless, telepathic and powerful and a master of variety of scientific and mystical arts that make him one of toughest warriors in the Marvel Universe.  To get to the powerlevel of destroying life Thanos seeks out the infinity gems.

Thanos fellow Titans realize the threat Thanos poses to existence and so create a hero whose sole purpose is to oppose and destroy Thanos.  Thanos's father, Mentor takes the soul of a victim of Thanos and creates Drax the Destroyer.  Drax is given a powerful body and desires only vengeance on Thanos.  Unknown to Drax mentor also saved his daughter and raised her Titan, she later emerges  as the hero, Moondragon.



Thanos wipes the race known as the Zen Whoberi.  He takes the last offspring of the species names her Gamora and raises her as a daughter.  He is not a kind father but instead trains Gamora to be tough and ruthless.  Working for her father as an assassin she gains the reputation of the most dangerous woman in the galaxy.  She later betrays Thanos and becomes one of his most stalwart enemies.

His search, battle and eventual getting the God like power of the infinity gauntlet were the story of a few major Marvel events.  Thanos has been killed a few times, only to be brought back.

During Thanos Imperative the Guardians of the Galaxy actually bring him back to life so as an avatar of Death he can face off against an evil world where they is only life.

• Nebula - Claims to be biological daughter in the comics (disputed by Thanos).  She is an adopted daughter of Thanos in the MCU.
  

Creation:
Thanos is one of the creations of comic writer Jim Starlin.  Jim Starlin was taking psychology courses at the time and conceived of Drax the Destroyer and Thanos.  Thanos being a villain infatuated with death and Drax being character created to destroy him.   Given a chance to write for Ironman he threw both characters into the story.  Initially, Thanos was somewhat skinny, Starlin had based his design of him off of Metron one of the new gods at DC.  Editor Roy Thomas looked at the design and suggested he beef up Thanos and copy the better new god Dark Siege.  For this reason Thanos and Darkseid are both similar looking and serve a similar role as the super bad and power villain.  The similarity is pretty well known.  During one universe cross over event the similarity is even referenced with Darkseid finds the infinity gauntlet.  Lucky for everyone he is unable to use it.  Apparently, its powers are isolated to the Marvel Universe,which was good from everyone.

Thanos's power level is very high.  He can pretty take on any character in the Marvel Universe and with the infinity gauntlets has literally taken on every character in the universe.

Energy projection and manipulation

Thanos Marvel Cinematic Universe
Thanos will be played by Josh Brolin.  I am still not clear if he will only lend his voice to a CGI created Thanos or if he will be in a costume.


The Thanos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still somewhat of a mystery.  It is unclear if his motivations will be the same as his comic counterpart.
What is known is that he will be the main villain featured in Avengers 3, and he will show up in Guardians of the Galaxy.
He made a brief appearance in the after credit scene of the Avengers.  Thanos provided Loki with the Chitauri Scepter with Mind Infinity Gem attached.  It was also one of his armies that invaded Earth at the behest of Loki.

In Marvel Prelude #1 we see a Thanos more focused on Strength and ridding oneself of weakness than a focus on Death.

Black Panther is a film set in the Marvel Universe that features the African hero the Black Panther.

Synopsis: Unreleased

Toylab Unofficial Synoposis:
After joining the superhero Civil War and fighting against and alongside Iron Man and Captain America, T'Challa returns home to Wakanda.  T'Challa change in policy and actions toward the outside world have created a domestic riff between him and some of the local leaders.  Chief amongst his detractors is Erik Kilmonger who seeks to oust T'Challa and rule Wakanda for himself.  The power struggle forces T'Challa to once again suit up and defeat his foes as the Black Panther.

Release Date: 2018  - Note this date is the new date.  Originally film was set for November 2017.  After Spider-Man was added some films on the MCU docket were pushed back.

Director: Ryan Coogler

Early Ratings:
As of 2/6/2018 Rotten Tomatoes has a critical review of Black Panther as 100% Fresh.
The film also boasts a very high "Want to See" percentage of 97%.  Early ticket sales place Black Panther on pace to have one of the biggest superhero film openings ever.

Updates:
San Diego Comic Con had a Hall H exhibition of Black Panther footage.  The clips were said not going to be shown in previews ever.  The scene shown was that of T'Challa, Ayo and Okoye walking into a casino to intercept a deal between Everett Ross and Ulyssess Klaue.  On their way a massive fight scene emerges with all three of the Wakandans showing what they can do in a fight.  The other clips shown was that of Killmonger and T'Challa battling and the suits of both being described as high tech and almost Iron Man Extremis like.  The crowd is said to have been very excited for what was shown.

The first Teaser for Black Panther was released during the NBA finals in 2017.  The Teaser recieved 89 million views in one day.  This ranks the teaser toward the top of Comic Teasers.  Thor Ragnarok did recieve more views with 136 million but Black Panther is well ahead of other films including: Captain America: Civil War 61 million, Star Wars: The Force Awakens 55 million, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 52 Million.  Black Panther also recieved 349,000 mentions on Twitter during the 24 hours after the teasers release.

Press Release from Marvel as Black Panther begins filming:

Update Jan 26, 2017 - Marvel released a press release stating that Black Panther had begun filming in Atlanta and other information.  Very interesting to many was seeing the full cast list.  The cast for the film is both long and amazing.  Many of the character in Black Panther's homeland of Wakanda will be featured.  One other name that jumped onto the list was Andy Serkis who is to reprise his role of Ulysses Klaw after being introduced in Age of Ultron.  There are actually three sometime villains of the Panther listed in the caste Michael B Jordan playing Erik Killmonger, Winston Duke playing Man Ape and Serkis playing Klaw.  My guess is that the film's main villain will be Killmonger but that Klaw will come into the picture at some point.

Deadpool 2 has revealed its first pictures of actor Josh Brolin as Cable in the film.  Cable and Deadpool have had some long running and notable team ups in the past.  Cable was also teased to appear at the end of Deadpool. So his in the film is not much of a surprise.  What has surprised people is the fact that Cable is carrying a child's teddy bear.

Why is Cable carrying a Teddy Bear?  Cable is old, gruff, his metal arm looks burly, his giant gun looks like it could cut through a skyscraper so the Teddy Bear does not seem to fit.  The first thing you should know about Cable is that he does not mess around, he is highly efficient, everything he does is done for a reason.  He shows up and gets to work.  Everything item on his person has a purpose.  There is a good reason for that bear and it likely explains why he will be appearing in the film in the first place.

Cable is a time traveler for a war ravaged future and he has returned to past numerous times for various reasons but many of those times were for one simple reason and that reason can be summed in one word  - HOPE.


Don't believe it is a Teddy Bear?  How about a close up.

HOPE



The word Hope also showed up in the Deadpool teaser.  It was scawled into a phone booth.  Niether the Teddy Bear nor the Grafitti are accidents.  Hope is very important to Deadpool 2 and likely to the entire Fox Mutant Universe.  Keep in mind Cable is important, when he shows up you need to pay attention this is a guy who can kill Apocalypse.  He has vast powers, future technology and the knowledge that only a time traveler could possess.

Hope though is not the metaphysical emotion in this case, Hope is a person.  Her name is Hope Summers she is a child.  Cable wants to find and protect her.  He carries the Teddy Bear as a gift to give her when he meets her.  Cable becomes Hopes adopted father and her ultimate protector.

More on Hope:


Hope Summers is a child that is born with seemingly all of the genetic capabilities of all mutants in her DNA.  Her birth causes Cerebro to blow up.  A variety of Time Travelers also mark existence as being very important.  Some see her as a Messiah and others as an AntiChrist like figure.

The Time Traveler Bishop sees Hope as an anti-Christ who causes a great war between humans and mutants.  He appears at the moment she is born to kill her.

The Purfiers a mutant hating group send the powerful Sentinel Nimrod to kill her seeing Hope as a great threat to their cause.

Stryfe and Minister Sinister also take an interest in Hope.  They wish to experiment and control her for their own purposes.

Cable appears when Hope is born but sees her entirely differently than the others.  To Cable, Hope is literally the only for mutants.  He acts to protect her from all those would kill or use her for other purposes.

Hope Summers is not the daughter of Cyclops / Jean Grey she is effectively adopted by Cable who gives her his last name of Summers.  This makes Jean Grey and Cyclops the adoptive grandparents of Hope.

While many powerful groups pursue Hope for various reasons she herself is an Omega level mutant with a vast array of mind boggling powers.  For one she has the power of mimicry enabling her to use the powers of any mutant near her.  She also has some natural psychic abilities.  She can pull in a variety of powers and use them all at once making into a highly powerful fighting force.  Hope is also one of the few beings selected as a host for the Phoenix force.  Hope also seems to stabilize X-Genes which leads to potentially more mutants.

One of the next Fox films is related to the Dark Phoenix saga it is possible that this film may tie into Deadpool 2 through the connection of Hope.

Who is Ghost Rider?
Ghost Rider is the name of multiple different supernatural anti-heroes in the Marvel Universe.  Generally, the Ghost Rider's are hosts for demonic entities called a spirit of vengeance that gives them a variety of supernatural powers that they use to dispense justice.  Ghost Rider has appeared in numerous comics and cartoons.  Nicholas Cage played Ghost Rider in two difference films.  Six different Marvel heroes have used the name Ghost Rider.

The film rights for Ghost Rider have reverted back to Marvel and there are a variety of rumors that Ghost Rider will appear in Season four of Agents of SHIELD. It is also possible Ghost Rider as his own Netflix series.  Actor Gabriel Luna will play the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider.  A Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider also appears later in the season.

Ghost Rider Movie Theme Song:
The Ghost Rider movies were far from perfect but one of my favorite things they did was integrate the old Ghost Riders in the Sky song with a new rock take.  The song appears in a scene were Ghost Rider climatically charges forward on his motorcycle along with the Phantom Rider riding a ghost horse at his side.  This was my favorite movement of both films and I like the version of the song.



Ghost Rider Bios:

Johnny Blaze-
Johnny Blaze is a stunt motorcyclist who sells his soul to the demon Mephisto in order to save the life of his father.  Mephisto bonds Johnny with a demon named Zarathos a spirit of vengeance that reacts violently when in the presence of evil.  After being bonded with Zarathos, when Johnny comes near evil is dramatically transformed.  His flesh is replaced with blazing hot hellfire.  He can shoot the hellfire out of his skeletal like hands.  He also has a powerful motorcycle and a chain as weapons.  Ghost Rider uses these weapons to violently take down evil threats around them.  The brutality of Ghost Rider spirit causes Blaze great concern and at certain points in time he frees himself from its influence.

Blaze has been the Ghost Rider on and off again since his initial appearance.  He has also made appearances in stories of later Ghost Riders as a mentor and ally.

Danny Ketch-
After his sister is wounded by a ninja gang, Danny finds a mystical Motorcycle imbued with a spirit of vengeance.  Danny transforms himself into Ghost Rider and takes vengeance on the gangsters.

Danny gets along with his spirit of vengance and does not fight its influence the way Johnny fought against Zarathos.  In the end of the series the spirit that Danny has teamed up with is revealed to be the Angel of Death /Judgement.

Danny Ketch appeared to die in his last comic of his run.  However, he has since been shown alive.

Robbie Reyes-
Robbie is a high school student in East Los Angeles.  He lives with his disabled brother Gabe.  The two brothers try to keep away from trouble and violence in their neighborhood.

Robbie enters a street race with a black charger.  He hopes that with the prize money he can move his family to better surroundings.  Unbeknownst to Robbie his car is carrying pills that have transformation properties made by the super villain Calvin Zabo (Aka Mr Hyde).  Mercenaries hunting for the pills gun down Robbie killing him.  Robbie is reborn as with a fiery skull, he drives off his car that is now also alight in flame.  Robbie is then introduced to his spirit of vengeance who is not a spirit of vengeance at all.  The spirit of a victim of gang violence named Eli Morrow has attached himself to Robbie's car.  This spirit then brought Robbie back as the Ghost Rider.




Eli and Robbie form a pact.  Eli will give Robbie the power to clean up his neighborhood so long as Robbie also helps Eli get vengeance on the gangsters that killed him.  The two take on the criminal enterprise of Calvin Zabo.

Johnny Blaze learns of the new Ghost Rider and meets with Robbie in Los Angeles.  Johnny warns Robbie that dealing with spirits of vengeance is rarely simple.  This later proves to be true.

Robbie learns that the spirit connected to him Eli Marrow was his serial killer uncle.  Eli had killed over 37 people in Satanic ritual killings.  Additionally, it was Eli who had tossed Robbie's pregnant mother down a flight of stair that had caused Gabe's disability.  The two battle for control of Robbie's body and eventually settle for a truce.  Robbie will allow Eli to kill people with his body so long as those people are evil.

• Mephisto - Demon who is the Arch enemy of Johnny Blaze and responsible for Johnny being bonded to the demon Zarathos in the first place.
• Calvin Zabo (Mr Hyde) - Mad scientist who is a primary villain of the Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider.

Ghost Rider Powers:


Each Ghost Rider has shown to have a variety of supernatural powers, weapons and vehicles.

• Super Strength
• Super Durability
• Super Healing
• Ability to shoot fire from hands or head
• Living chain weapons
• Immunity to many spells/magic
• Flaming Motorcycle/Car

In some stories is speculated that Ghost Rider could be one of the most Powerful heroes in the Marvel universe even capable of defeating the Hulk.  This is put partially to the test in World War Hulk in which the Hulk is met by Ghost Rider.






MCU Ghost Rider:


Agents of SHIELD began showing an emblem of a fire laced chain on its Season 4 promotions prior to San Diego Con 2016.  The show has a character named Hellfire that also uses a fire laced chain that initially was what fans thought the art meant.  However casting calls revealed that the show was looking for actors who would fit the part of Robbie Reyes and his brother Gabe Reyes.  Specifically, mention a Hispanic male who would be in a wheel chair similar to Gabe.  This has led to speculation that Agents of SHIELD may have been allowed to use the Robbie version of Ghost Rider.

Another thing that leads to Robbie appearing in Agents of SHIELD is that his origins are tied to the villain Calvin Zabo who was established as a character in Season 2 of Agents of SHIELD as Skye/Quake's father.

Actor Gabriel Luna has been confirmed to be playing Robbie Reyes AKA Ghost Rider in Agents of SHIELD.  A picture has been released of Gabriel in the Robbie Reyes driving suit.

The Ghost Rider has been confirmed to have a supernatural origin explainable by science.

In an interview with Collider actor Gabriel Luna revealed more facts about the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider that Agents of SHIELD is bringing to TV.  He addressed the differences of the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider with the previous iterations of Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch.  The Johnny Blaze is currently those most well known do to having multiple movies and being played by actor Nicholas Cage.  Unlike the Johnny Cage version Robbie drives a car and not a motor cycle.  Luna went a little deeper on how the curse of Ghost Rider is different.

"Previous incarnations of the character are men who usually have a pretty decent life, to start out. Johnny Blaze is a famous Hollywood stuntman. Danny Ketch is not doing too bad to start with. And then, the Ghost Rider becomes this really heavy curse on them. Robbie is in an inverted position there. He had some hardships early in his life, and the Ghost Rider actually becomes an empowering thing. While it’s still difficult to deal with and very much a curse, he had some f*cked up shit going on before Ghost Rider ever came about."

On Ghost Rider having a supernatural and a non science origin Luna told Collider:

"That’s a huge wild card to throw into the mix. We’re starting to toe the line and inch towards some ground that hasn’t been covered, but that is a huge part of the books themselves and the entire Marvel universe and the canon of Marvel’s assortment of characters. What we haven’t touched on are things that can’t be explained perfectly by science. It’s a lot of really fun stuff that starts to lean into the world of Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider and Mephisto, and all of these other elements that also exist there, like ghouls and goblins and all sorts of cool things. We’re happy to be the ones to break the ice on that."

On Special Effects being used to bring Ghost Rider to life Gabriel Luna told Collider:

"Last season, Brett [Dalton] transformed into Hive and it was a really amazing effect that he did. I remember watching it on television and thinking how great it was. We’re using a lot of the same technology for my character. He took the Hive head off and put the Ghost Rider head on, and I thought, 'Wow, that’s great! It looks finished.' But, it wasn’t. A couple days ago, he showed me the finished version, and it’s really exciting to see. It moves and it thinks. There’s a lot of characterization in the face. He took care to preserve my performance in a bare bones skull. I’m thankful for that and I’m absolutely over the moon for people to see it. I think they’re going to be happy."

Venom is a cool character that I really enjoy.  In the 90s when I was a kid his battles with Spider-Man were epic, they were the stuff of legends.  Despite being a Venom fan though I have been hesitant to say much about this film.  It is not in the MCU, it does not have Spider-Man and so right way there alarm bells going off in my head.  The film did cast Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock which seems like a great choice.  The trailer is interesting though it definitely is going for a cross between a superhero and a horror film.  The trailer still does not give us a look of Hardy as Venom and also still no real idea of who the villain is.

Toylab Thoughts on Trailer:
I like the ominous music and narration "You used to be one thing, but now, ...your something else".  That fits Venom well.  The trailer does not show that much.  There is a clip of a crashed spacecraft which I assume is where the symbiote comes from.  This is fairly similar to the comic origin though this is going to be different because we won't get the Black Suit Spider-Man first.

Michelle Williams does really look like Anne Weying pretty much a dead ringer for her comic counterpart.  No idea if we will see a She-Venom as seen in one of the comics.

One question about this Venom trailer is that Hardy who makes the computers part with Telepathy?  Does Venom have telepathy in this?  It happens at around 1:13 in the trailer.

Who is Erik Killmonger?

Erik Killmonger is a Wakandian villain that frequently battles the hero Black Panther in the Marvel Universe.  Erik Killmonger is domestic rival for the the thrown of Wakanda and challenges the path that the Black Panther has taken the nation.  Erik Killmonger will be played by actor Michael B. Jordan in the 2018 film Black Panther.

Real Name: N'Jadaka

Alias: Killmonger, Erik Killmonger

First Appearance: Jungle Action #6 (1973)



Killmonger Bio:


Born under the name N'Jadaka in Wakanda his father was forced to fight alongside the Super Villain Klaw.  After Klaw's defeat N'Jadaka's father died and the family was exiled by King T'Challa the Black Panther.  N'Jadaka went to America where he studied at MIT.  N'Jadaka studied science as well as training heavily in martial arts.  While training he nursed a great deal of hatred for super villains and for the T'Challa both of whom he blamed for his father's death and his family's exile.  During his time in the states he changed his name to Erik Killmonger.

Erik is allowed by T'Challa to return home.  He comes back to Wakanda and settles in a village.  He quickly rises to become a leader and champion in that village which takes on his old name, N'Jadaka in his honor.  He becomes a well known submerrisive of the King's reign and pushes for the country to be cleansed of any vestiges of the "white colonialist" culture.

When Black Panther leaves the country on Avengers business, Killmonger takes advantage of his absence and stages a coup d' etat.  His insurrection is forcefully put down and in a battle with the Black Panther he is killed.



Erik Killmonger was resurrected first by the Mandarin in a bid to take over Wakanda and later by his followers in N'Jadaka.

Killmonger later successfully took control of the country of Wakanda.  He first staged a variety of economic attacks including a stock market crash.  He later then fought T'Challa in ritualized combat.  Killmonger defeated T'Challa and gained the title of Black Panther and was set to lead the nation as its leader.  As Killmonger took the heart shaped herb that gives Black Panther his powers, Erik finds himself becoming violently ill.  The herb turns out to be poisonous to anyone outside of the royal Wakandan bloodline.  T'Challa saves his rivals life and for a time Killmonger serves as the Cheiftain of Wakanda.

During his time of leading Wakanda, Killmonger offers police officer Kasper Cole an artificial version of the Black Panther herb and provides technology to allow the officer to track down a missing boy.  In a exchange for the gifts Kasper had to drop his Black Panther persona and instead wear the rival White Tiger mantle.  Kasper agreed though he attempted to avoid any other help from Killmonger seeing his influence as a dangerous nuisance.


Killmonger Powers:
Erik Killmonger is highly trained and gifted martial artist.  Expert in the ritual combat of Wakanda.

Importance of Killmonger:
Killmonger has beaten Black Panther and even for a time taken control of the nation of Wakanda.  He has a very different vision for Wakanda should be than T'Challa and sees himself as T'Challa's physical and mental superior.
If Klaw is Black Panther's Joker, then Killmonger is Black Panther's Bane.

MCU:


Erik Killmonger will be played by actor Michael B. Jordan in the 2018 film Black Panther.  It is thought that Killmonger will be one of the major villains in the film.

He can be seen in a room appearing angry where he is no doubt discussing the course of the nation with T'Challa.  He can also be seen donning a traditional tribal mask and breaking out Klaw from prison.

Venom is a character in the Marvel Universe who has acted as both a hero and a villain.
Generally, the name Venom refers to anyone wearing the black Venom alien symbiote.  Venom was the primary antagonist of Spider-Man throughout the 90s but has since become a hero.  SONY has announced a Venom motion picture that will star Tom Hardy as the Eddie Brock version of Venom.  It is unclear if SONY's Venom will part of MCU but it will connect with Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Actor Topher Grace played Venom in the film Spider-Man 3.

Bio:


Originally, the black symbiote was a suit that Spider-Man picked up in Battle World during the Secret Wars special event.   When Spider-Man realized the suit was altering his judgement and making him more violent he separated himself from it.  Since, that time the Symbiote has often joined with men who wanted to battle Spider-Man to match its own feelings of hatred toward him.

The Venom Symbiote was revealed to have been locked away on Battleworld by its own race because it was considered insane by them.  The Symbiote wanted to fully commit to its host and keep them alive where as the rest of the Symbiote simply used up their hosts, killed them and moved onto the next.



Eddie Brock:
The next man to wear the suit was Eddie Brock.  Eddie Brock was ex-reporter who blamed Spider-Man for losing his job.  Eddie used body building as a method of dealing with his anger and stress though it was largely unsuccessful.  The Symbiote feeling rejected by Spider-Man found a compatriot in Eddie.  The Symbiote was able to give Eddie all of Spider-Man's powers plus extra strength.  Additionally, the Symbiote could get around Spider-Man's spider sense.  The joined together and began calling themselves Venom.

Venom manages to defeat Spider-Man in battle in numerous occasions but never quite manages to kill him.  The symbiote and Eddie evolve as it gains more knowledge.  Eventually, Venom becomes something of a violent vigilante.  Spider-Man and Venom begin finding themselves working together to protect innocent people.  They also unite to fight the evil offspring of Venom, a violent symbiote called Carnage.

Mac Gargan:
Eddie and the Symbiote tire of each other leading the Symbiote to move onto additional hosts.  For a time it uses the former Scorpion, Mac Gargan.  Gargan even poses as a new Spider-Man on Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers team.  Eventually, Gargan is incarcerated and separated from the Symbiote.

Flash Thompson
 
The former high school bully of Peter Parker, Flash Thompson is the next man to wear the Symbiote.  After highschool Thompson joins the army.  Thompson is badly wounded and paralyzed from the waste down during his military service.  He is recruited into a government black ops unit that seeks a host to use the Venom Symbiote on.

Putting on the Symbiote Thompson not only regains the ability to walk again but also the powers of his former hero Spider-Man.  Thompson's Venom tends to have a more orderly, human appearance than the Gargan/Brock variation.

Venom joins the Guardians of the Galaxy replacing Iron Man as a Earth representative on the team.

The Venom Symbiote joins with space pirate Lee Price.


Eddie Brock returns


In April of 2017 Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote will be reunited.  Venom will return as Eddie Brock in Venom #4 that will be renumbered to be Venom #150.  The comic is being promoted as one of the biggest Venom stories ever.

Editor Devin Lewis revealed more about Venom 150:

"Eddie Brock and Venom, swinging through the concrete jungle. There’s a lot of ‘Lethal Protector’ in the DNA of Mike’s current run and his approach to Eddie, and, like that story, Mike’s has a lot of heart. But I’ve been adamant about the fact that the symbiote has to be a threat. Not necessarily to Eddie or anyone in particular,other than Spider-Man, but certainly to the world around it. It can and should be a destabilizing force. Regardless of its mental state or the fact that it’s been cleansed, Lee has proven that the symbiote can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and we’re going to see the ramifications of that play out in Tradd’s story.”

• Can replicate itself
• Can track its offspring through a telepathic link

 Masters of the Universe
Masters of the Universe is a film set to come out in 2019 about He-Man.  He-Man was a popular cartoon and toyline in the 1980s.

Update: 2-8-2018
Variety has just reported that David S. Goyer has passed on directing Masters of the Universe.  Goyer had worked on the screen play but says that his commitment to a series called the Foundation a scifi series based off of the works of Irving Asimov.  Goyer will remain on the project as an executive producer but the project with a Dec 18, 2019 release date will still need to find a new director.


Concept Art for Masters of the Universe:

David Goyer who is known for his work on the Blade Trilogy as well as Suicide Squad is now at the helm of Masters of the Universe.  Masters of the Universe is the reboot for the He-Man franchise.  The film is being produced SONY and seeks to bring the old 80s cartoon (and film) to a new generation.

Some concept art has just started perculate out.

In one scene you can see interesting backgrounds which may very well be concept art of Eternia.  In another he is looking at a battle suit.  I have heard speculation this is a battle suit of Teela as well as this is the look of the character Man-E-Face.  Hard to judge much based off this limited sample but I will keep updating this post with more as it arrives.

Not sure if many remember this poster.  You would need to be an 80s kid to know it.  I still think this is one of the coolest Toy posters ever made.  It show off all of the cool characters.  Its funny I think I was around 5 when I got this poster and I still have an idea of which of these figures I had, and which my friends had.  I may need to something fun with it especially as the new film kicks into gear.

What character will Dove Cameron play on Agents of SHIELD?

Agents of SHIELD has confirmed that actress Dove Cameron will be playing a role in the show in Season 5.  Dove Cameron is an up and coming actress known for her role on Descendants and she also lends her voice to Spider-Gwen in the cartoon Ultimate Spider-Man.  In the announcement Dove shows her excitement and is about to reveal more when she is cut off by a familiar face.

Who will Dove play?

My guess is that she could play a significant character but that is pretty hard to say.  If SWORD is involved in this season its possible she could be Abigail Brand.  She also could be any number of female aliens, or agents.  I don't have any hard theories now but will follow the show closely and look for more clues.

Update:  Dove will be playing a character called Ruby who is the daughter of General Hale and has a mysterious obsession with Quake.  General Hale is a villain who appeared in the episode where Fitz was trying to get into the future with his team.  Hale was running the operation that imprisoned him and also to retrieve him after he escaped.  The base where Hale was located was revealed to have a warehouse containing both SHIELD and alien artifacts.  When Hale's two agents Evans and Lucas failed to reacquire Fitz she executed both by shooting them in the head.   She then called for a clean up crew.  Hale seems ruthlessness and position in charge of an important facility point to her being part of something larger than a typical military operation.  It is even possible that she herself is an Inhuman, Alien, etc.    Ruby is going to be this character's daughter and that opens up a lot possibilities.

There is in fact a Ruby in the comics.   Ruby is a character called Ruby Summers who is the daughter of Cyclops / Scott Summers and Emma Frost.  She is an extremely powerful mutant with powers that are a variation on those of her parents:  She fires black optic blasts from her eyes similar to her father.  She turn her body into ruby and be nearly invulnerable like her mother.  Ruby generally remains in her ruby form and come around fine in that form.  The Ruby form prevents her from aging and when depicted in the comics she is actually in her 80s.  She confesses that she does not know if leaving her Ruby form will lead her to automatically age.

Could Dove be playing Ruby Summers?  I would say this is unlikely as Marvel just acquired Fox who held the mutant licenses.  Also Ruby Summers would be a difficult character to integrate with her ties to both Cyclops and Emma Frost without either of those characters being introduced as yet into the MCU.

It is not clear what Pamela's background was prior to the Zombie Apocalypse.  Presumably she was a a politician of some sort.  She does seem to be the leader behind the largest, most technologically advanced group encountered by Rick Grimes.

It is unclear if the Common Wealth will become enemies or foes of the survivors.

As a Coloradan you better believe I am watching the Winter Olympics, our state sends more athletes to the Olympics than most countries.  I always watch to cheer on all the athletes.  I normally don't write about it much on here though as little translates into the themes of my blog.  However the Opening Ceremonies really showcased something very cool from a technology stand point.

Thought the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics was really great last night.  The biggest moment in all the spectacle was how the Koreans used an a small army of drones to create shapes in the sky.



I
 found it really impressive.  I have seen drones in small numbers at low altitude create shapes like this but never so many, at such a height.

Rising Sun is a new board game that is currently blowing up on Kickstarter.  The game is set in the dynamic period of Feudal Japan mixing fantasy creatures with Samurai and Ninjas.

Each player take control of a Shogun who attempting to take control of Japan.  Each player's shogun will be the leader of a clan.  The clans each have their own theme, miniatures, and a unique special power.  In this post we will take a deeper look at each of the main 5 Rising Sun Clans and even look at a special 6th clan that may be released as part of the Kickstarter.

Rising Sun is a board game for 3 to 5 players set in legendary feudal Japan. As the Kami descend from the heavens to reshape the land in their image, it is up to each player to lead their clan to victory. The Clans


There are 5 main clans in the Rising Sun board game.  Each clan has its own miniatures, theme, and special power.  The 5 main clans are the Turtle Clan, Lotus Clan,  Bonsai Clan, Koi Clan and the Dragon Fly clan.  Additionally there is an extra clan added in the Kickstarter called the Fox Clan.  It is unknown if the Fox clan could appear in the future iterations of the game not sold through the initial Kickstarter.  This may increase the value of the games that are sold during the Kickstarter.


Official Description of the 5 Main Clans-

Koi (Flow, Like Water) - Ever adaptable, the Koi clan is able to use hired Ronin as coins and vice versa, giving them great flexibility and making their decisions very unpredictable.

Dragonfly (Wings, Wind and Spirit) - Flying on gossamer wings, the Dragonfly clan is able to move anywhere on the map without restriction. You never know where they'll strike next.

Bonsai (Humility, Earth and Root) - Ever growing and evergreen, the Bonsai clan needs to spend no coins when buying resources. Strongholds sprout from the ground and Upgrades to the clan blossom naturally.

Lotus (Patience is key) - The Lotus clan dictates the flow of politics by turning the Political Mandates they play into anything they wish. A powerful ally to have at your side, and a terrible foe to betray.

Turtle (Hard as the mind; delicate as steel) - The Turtle clan builds their Strongholds on top of the shells of giant legendary turtles. These indestructible fortresses can move around the map and even join in the fights for the provinces.

Fox Clan the 6th Clan

The extra clan is the Fox Clan.   The Fox clan will allow for a 6 player game so that alone is pretty awesome.  The Fox Clan has been unlocked in the Kickstarter due to the huge amount of pledges for the game.
The Fox Clan special is not known yet but it may have to do something with the firearms their Bushi are seen wielding.

Which of these clans is the best?
Still up for debate at this point as there have been very few playtests of the game released.

The Punisher is a comic character that makes people uncomfortable.  Is it ok to turn a guy who is basically a serial killer into a hero?   Does his story also attack the justice system and political organizations that should be pursing justice?  Is there a part of the character that borders upon snuff film glorification of violence?  These are tough questions to be asking about a comic book character that kids read.

 The way Frank's methods are justified in the comics are pretty simple, they put him up against the very worst of humanity.  When these vile people come across Frank you know that they will finally get their PUNISHMENT.  Normally, I can't help but cheer as these horrible people go down in horrific ways.  Horrific ways that they very much have worked hard to earn.  What is the dark part of me that is cheering for people to get violently slaughtered?  Its dark stuff, and if it doesn't make you uncomfortable at all than you likely are missing some of the points of the character to begin with.

The value of that the Punisher has over perhaps every other character in comics is that his writers have been free to explore issues that are considered too dark or taboo for other stories to get into.  One of those themes was modern day slavery.

Most people know that once upon a time in America there were slaves, and most people know that once upon a time there were slaves  pretty much everywhere on Earth.  What most people fail to realize is there are slaves today, and to take it a sad step further there are A LOT of slaves today.  Slavery did gain some attention when video of a slave auction going on in Libya.  Generally though people ignore it.



At the height of the slavery in the US there were estimated to be around 10 million slaves.  Today world estimates say there are over 30 million people living as slaves.  3 TIMES AS MANY.  So not only is this a problem of today's world, it is a massive problem and one that gets little attention.  Why don't we hear more about this problem?  Well people who own slaves do a good job at hiding them, that is one reason, and another is that people really don't want to know about the slaves that were involved in mining the minerals that went into their smart phone.  It makes people uncomfortable, just like..........The Punisher.

 What are we doing to stop this?  As far as I can tell almost nothing.   Where is our John Brown leading the charge to stop this?  People love to judge those in the past.  However, maybe we should take a moment to ask how future generations will judge us?

The Punisher does not give too flippity F#$#s about your or my discomfort on this topic.  He is out to bring justice to the most vile and of course at some point he turns his eyes toward modern day slavery.  It looks like Neflix Punisher series is going to pursue the story The Slavers themes as part of Punisher Season 2.  I don't want to be a cheerleader for this story, this is not something that you want to cheer about.  However, if they really do go forward with this story, good for them.

Why do I think Slaves is part of Season 2?
The Hashtag show managed to get their hands on some Punisher Season 2 casting calls among the new characters were the following descriptions:

Marvel TV is looking to cast two female roles, ANNIE BEIR and KIM DAVIS. For the role of ANNIE, they are looking for an 18-year old female to play a 16-year old on the show. She’s been described to us a someone who is used to the streets and is both scrappy and aware of her environment. For the role of KIM, they are looking for a female in her mid-30s, open ethnicity, to become a series regular working as a therapist.

The Hashtag show points out that these characters sound a lot like Viorica and Jen Cooke from the story Slavers written by Garth Ennis in 2005.  They explain their speculation further saying:

ANNIE BEIR, the street-smart scrapper, could be an analog to Viorica, the young girl whose life Castle saved and whose story led him to discover the sex slave ring run by Vera Konstantin and Cristu Bulat. In that story, Castle enlisted the help of a social worker, Jen Cooke, who had worked with Viorica, to learn about the slavers and take them down. In this case, KIM DAVIS could be the Jen Cooke of the story.

I think the Hashtag is pretty spot on here.  Being that a Punisher season can cover multiple stories as different arcs I think Season 2 will involve Jigsaw, maybe Barricuda or the Russian and at least one other major story.  One of the top stories is Slaves and it would be by far the boldest material to take on for the show.

The Slavers Story:
The Slavers is considered to be one of the darker and perhaps the darkest of Punisher stories.  The premise is pretty simple.  Frank encounters a girl named Viorica who was a sex slave.   She tells him her story about being kidnapped, raped, enslaved, brutalized, how she had a child and how the baby was taken for leverage against her.  How eventually the baby was even killed.    Through he learns about a ring of slave traders, pimps and madames involved in the industry.  He then goes through them and their thugs like a ruthless buzz saw.  The story is by Garth Ennis and lasts through Punisher Max 25 through 30 (2005).

The story is brutal. In one confrontation Frank has the madame of the girls repeatedly thrown against a shatter proof window 20-30 times before the frame gives way from the wall and she topples out to the pavement below.  When she begs for mercy Frank calmly repeats the woman's own philosophy back to her, in one of the most haunting moments in comic history.

And as harsh as Frank is. You can't help but feel the people he chainsaws through deserve everything they get.

Part of me does not want this story to be in the Netflix show.  It was a hard story to read.  But the other part of me knows that of all the comic stories there are, this one above all others, SHOULD be the one that is told.

The Common Wealth is another group to challenge the existence of the communties of Alexandria in the Universe of the Walking Dead.  The group began to be promoted as villains in the run up toward New York Comic Con 2017.  The group first appeared in a 6 issue story arc called New World Order.

The Common Wealth are the largest and most technologically advanced group of survivors encountered by Rick Grimes group in the world of the Walking Dead.  The Common Wealth is said to have nearly 50,000 survivors, they also wear advanced suits and have access to advanced military weaponry like helicopters.  The Common Wealth also has a sports stadium used for events and surviving musicians play concerts there.

Size:  Common Wealth is said to have over 50,000 people making them the largest group encountered in the Walking Dead world.

Common Wealth:


Not much is known about the Common Wealth but they will become a major threat to the group in 2018.  It is possible the Common Wealth is located in the central part of the United States which is an area that has not been explored by either the Walking Dead (TV or comics) or the companion series Fear the Walking Dead.

Lance Hornsby a  leader of a  group of Common Wealth soldiers encounters and captures Eugene, Michonne, Magna, Yumiko, Siddiq and Juanita.  He seeks to gain information from the survivors asking each of them pass an interview.  Eugene is reluctant to give Lance information.  Eugenue wants to speak to a woman named Stephanie who may be the leader of the Common Wealth.

Eugene has spoken to woman named Stephanie numerous occasions from a group she claims to be civilized.  This woman reveals at one point that her group lives in Ohio and warns Eugene that his group better not be bad.

Michonne learns that her daughter may be living among the residents of the Common Wealth.  She sees a board created by Common Wealth survivors looking for relatives.  She sees a picture of herself signed by her daughter Elodie.  Michonne had previously believed that Elodie was deceased.  The wall is refered to as the "Wall of the Lost."  Elodie is said to have worked at a bakery at some point in time.



Common Wealth Word meaning:
The word Common Wealth is generally associated with  the UK there are also 4 US states that refer to themselves as Common Wealths including Kentucky (Where Kirkman is from), Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Viginia. Walking Dead survivors have recently been moving West and hit Pittsburgh in Pennslyvania. Its possible the name Common Wealth is a hint that they could be either from Pennslyvania or Kentucky which would be close to that area.

Who is White Wolf?

White Wolf is a villain and sometimes ally of the Black Panther..

Real Name:  Hunter

First Appearance: Black Panther (vol 3) #4  (1999)

Who is the Black Panther?


Bio:



White Wolf is not Wakandian but was adopted by T'Challa's parents.  His strict pursuit of the Wakanda ways led him to become in charge of the Wakandan secret police the Hatut Zeraze. When T'Challa rose to become King of Wakanda he disbanded the Hatut Zeraze.  This act led Hunter to leave Wakanda and into conflict with T'Challa.


Hunters family was in a plane crash that happened in Wakanda.  His biological parents were killed and Hunter came to be adopted and raised by King T'Chaka.  He grew up under xenophobic suspicion being a foreigner and white,  He overcame these views by becoming fervently patriotic of his new home.  When T'Challa was born Hunter felt that his place in the royal family was at risk.

At some point, he realized that he would never become king but redoubled his efforts to become the best Wakandan possible.  His efforts were rewarded when he was promoted to lead the feared Wakandan secret police known at the Hatut Zeraze




As leader of the Hatut Zeraze, Hunter takes on the name of White Wolf.   He lead the group on a variety of campaigns against anyone viewed as a subversive threat to the royal family.  Their tactics are considered to be brutal and this leads to a negative view of the group among the Wakandan people.

T'Challa is raised up to Black Panther after his father is killed.  One of his first acts is to shut down the Hatut Zeraze.  To Hunter this is an weakness and abdication.  The forces battle and Black Panther wins. The White Wolf leaves Wakanda with his Hatut Zeraze soldiers and sets them up as Wakandan mercenaries in exile.



T'Challa stints as a hero in the Avengers greatly annoy White Wolf.  To White Wolf the Black Panther should be the guardian of Wakanda and not the world.

Hunter has appeared as botha villain and an ally of T'Challa.  He remains loyal to Wakanda even if he disagrees with its King T'Challa.

White Wolf appeared in Marvel Lego Super Hero game



 Powers:

• Highly trained in martial and conventional military ways
• Superb athlete

MCU:
Unknown has been set to appear in some videogames of Wakanda showing that he does exist.

How to beat Espeon? Pokemon Go

What another Eevee evolution?  Yes that is right there will be another batch of Eevee evolutions coming to Pokemon Go in the Gen 2 expansion.  These two evolution are known as Umbreon and Espeon.  Each Evolution is of a type and the two new Eevee evolutions are not exceptions to this rule.  Espeon is a Psychic pokemon which you might have gleaned from its name, get it ESP-eon.  Generally, Espeon is not considered to be a powerful Eevee Evolution.  I expect Vaporeon to remain the most powerful evolved form.  That said like the other Eevee evolutions getting an Espeon will likely be pretty easy making it popular choice and also increasing the likelihood you run into one in gyms.

About Espeon:

"Espeon is extremely loyal to any trainer it considers to be worthy. It is said that this Pokémon developed its precognitive powers to protect its trainer from harm." Pokedex entry from Pokemon Ruby

Espeon is a Psychic type of Pokemon.  It is one of the final forms of evolution of Eevee.  Eevee has a wide branching tree or web of evolutions it can be turned into.  The design of Espeon is thought to be based off the legends of Nekomata or goblin cats.  Espeon tends to be one of the faster Eevee evolved forms behind only Jolteon and has a strong attack.  Magic Bounce is an ability that Espeon is famous for which causes status effects to be bounced back at attackers.  As status effects are currently not part of Pokemon Go it is hard to see this ability being built into the game.

Now for the ultimate question!  How do you beat, kill, defeat Espeon.  What Pokemon is a counter Espeon?


Espeon as a psychic Pokemon has a type disadvantage to Dark and Ghost Pokemon.

Dark Pokemon tend to be the best Pokemon to use against Psychic Pokemon.  Dark Pokemon have both an offensive and a defensive advantage against Psychic Pokemon.

There are not many Dark Pokemon in Gen 1 but Gen 2 Pokemon provide a couple of great options.

Umbreon is the other new Eevee Evolution form that appears in Gen 2 and it is a great choice against Espeon.  Umbreon is a very solid Dark Pokemon that will also be pretty to get.  An ideal Umbreon against Espeon would have a move set of all dark moves.

Umbreon is my top recommendation to battle Espeon.

Umbreon is fairly to easy to acquire and easily upgradable.  You want to have an Umbreon with all Dark Moves if possible.

Houndoom is stronger vs Espeon if you can find and power up one.



Gengar:


The best all around Pokemon vs Espeon right now is hands down Gengar.  Gengar is one of the top offensive Pokemon in the game right now.  More over his move set works well against Espeon.
Espeon has a weakness to the Ghosttype moves that Gengar has many of.

The best Gengar Move Sets against Espeon are:

• Hex / Shadowball
• Hex / Sludgebomb
• Shadowclaw / Shadowball
• Sucker Punch / Shadowball

Houndoom

Another option to use against Espeon is Houndoom the evolved form of Houndour.  He is a powerful Dark Pokemon.  I tend to think Houndoom will be more rare and harder to get than Umbreon.

Other Options:
Other Pokemon that work well against Espeon are Dragonite and Tyranitar.  Both are obviousily very rare but both have powerful moves that can heavily damage Espeon.

Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

Brie Larson will be Captain Marvel and fan art work has begun to come out of Brie as the iconic hero.  However Marvel has yet to release anything official.  Carol Danvers has been depicted in many different ways over her years as a hero so certainly there are a lot of options to use.  My guess is that her look will be based off her recent runs as Captain Marvel.

The Captain Marvel cover with Carol donning that mantle for the first time has become iconic in a short amount of time.  I really think that will inspire the look as much as her previous looks will.

In an interview with IGN Brie described what Captain Marvel meant to her.

“I find it's really hard for me to condense what she means to me. I was once a young girl and I was confused by what a hero was and what I wanted to be when I grow up and what was important to me. And so, I think it's so complicated growing up and to attempt to become a symbol of truth and navigating through all the weird questions of growing up feels so, I’m getting emotional just talking about this, it feels so important to me. When it comes to her, I mean just the fact that she can be a bridge between two worlds, that she can go between Earth and space and that her own personal place is in this little area between where Earth ends and space begins and that’s only hers is so moving to me. I’m just inspired.”

She also described to IGN being asked about what her depiction of Captain Marvel will look like.

“I can’t say anything… I feel like this is a big conversation and every day I have people yelling at me on Twitter like you better have long hair, or you better have a mohawk, or you better wear the helmet, or you better not wear the helmet, so someone’s going to be mad.”

Mark Brooks is one of my favorite artists and he has drawn Carol in a way that is somewhat inbetween Anka's and her traditional look.

There is some great Ms Marvel artwork and COSPLAY out there.  Some of it is prior to Carol making her switch to Captain Marvel.
