Is Disney covering up Last Jedi's suckyness?

(This is an analysis more of what is happening in the reviews of the film Star Wars: The Last Jedi so there are not any direct Spoilers here.  However, it is possible you can glean something from that )

Critical rating for Star Wars: Last Jedi have come in well but fans are hating the film.  What is the deal?  Is it possible that Disney is paying off critics to turn in positive reviews for the film.  That conspiratiorital tone sounds nuts but many on Twitter and Facebook are accusing Disney of doing just that.  There is actually a fair amount of evidence to point toward a cover up of sorts.

1st - Rotten Tomatoes
Rotten Tomatoes show the conspiracy the clearest.  Currently, the critics have given the film a stellar 93% rating, while the audience score is a lousy 55%.  This is very unique because for most popular geek films the critical rating tend to be far lower than the audience scores.  Film critics tend to get snobby and decry generic plot lines of the 18th super hero film they have been forced to watch by the pedestrian rabble.  Looked at in this light the high score of Star Wars: The Last Jedi seems very odd.

2nd - Me Thinks Thy does Protest Too Much
After recieving this barrage of negative reviews from the audience the major critics began the cover up.  They began releasing a series of articles claiming that the film's low audience score was due to a 4chan group that voted........4 times!  They also began questioning labeling fans who did not like the film as fanatics, or as some crazed and highly intolerant group of fans that want their story told their way.  These fans are like the villain in Misery, insanely seeking the end they want and unable to cope withnot being able to get their way.
Also a huge amount of articles were created called......Rian Johnson explains, Rian Johnson defends....
These defensive articles point out that the Cinema Score for Last Jedi that randomly interviews people who leave the theater gives the film an A.  Thus seeking to draw a further question of the viability of the Rotten Tomato scores.

While some of these articles do make interesting points it is bizarre to see the critics jump out into the fray like this to defend a film.  Bizarrely, even if they make good points the level and organization at which these articles are coming out makes them feel like an astroturfing psyops tactic.  Astroturfing is where a political organization releases a multitude of opinion pieces in the media with one point of view from multiple different names even though they tend to all be written by the same group.  This leads people to think that their are many people who think x, when infact their might be dramatically less.

Cinema Score reveals true rating for Last Jedi
Rian Johnson defends

3rd:  The Big Dog
Disney is now the biggest dog in town to say it more accurately.  Disney is the Big Dog, that just ate the other Big Dog.  If you are a film critic you may not be advised to make Disney angry as they now have consoldiated power in a dramatic fashion.  Even more meaningful here is the fact that Star Wars is Gold egg laying Goose of the company.  Of all the films for a critic to go after this one may draw the most ire. This is entirely circumstancial evidence but it does paint the environment that critics live in and certainly shows some motivation they have for giving the film a pass.

4th Politics of Reviewers
The politics for cinema reviewers is hard left.  I don't think that surprises anyone it just is so.  In fact in general most film and theater buffs throughout history lean left.  We live in an interesting time though were politics are heavily divided and leaking into how people judge .....EVERYTHING.  Multiple reviewers pointed toward the diverse cast of Star Wars as plus, other reviewers heralded the film for showing women in power and stopping the overly aggressive man splaining males.   Many left wing reviewers also narrowly paint the film as an analogy between Trump followers (First Order) and the Resistance (Progressives).  The politics seen in a science fiction fantasy action adventure may not in fact be intentional but to the reviewer it gives them a chance to praise values they like and therefore they give it an A.  While juding film solely based off its politics seems bizarre that is the weird world we live in today, where the merits of everything end up being tethered back to what political team one roots for.  If the film had its story tweaked to have the First Order be made up of hidden cells of Storm Trooper terrorists who had infilitrated the New Republic through its open border policy but kept every other aspect the critics would arrive at a dramatically different rating of the film.

Toylab's Take:
Who are you?  That is the question that will really determine if you like this film or hate it.

ITS ABOUT LUKE STUPID!

I don't think there was actual conspiracy here on Disney's part.  I think just shows the difference in views between Star Wars fans and the film critics.  I am amazed at how many critics say things like I just watched Star Wars a year ago, etc which is a dramatically different place from a Star Wars fan who watched all the films 30 years and has read hundreds of books, comics and video games related to that universe.  The difference in perspective there is huge, sometimes it might align but here it definetly did not.

Star Wars the Last Jedi is a great film that canonizes one of the biggest let downs in any fandoms history.  People who discuss the Snoke, and Rey aspects film are dramatically missing the boat on why this film is divisive.  It is divisive due to its use of Luke Skywalker.  While there are many characters in the Star Wars universe the first 6 films, and 95% of its support matierial is the story of Luke Skywalker.  The first three films are the beginning of the heroes journey and we really only see Luke the Jedi in the film Return of the Jedi.  Before this he is more less a good pilot, with limited training in the force.

For many years fans dreamed of a new Star Wars film that show what Luke did after Return of the Jedi.  There is a massive amount of books and comics that take on this period.  These books show a Luke is continaully growing in his Force powers and becomes a master Jedi.

When new Star Wars movies were announced many fans were extremely disapointed when they were told they would be prequels.  Fans wanted to see Master Jedi Luke.  They moved on, somewhat but all of the reviews of those films were tainted by the want of the fandom to see Luke.  When the Force Awakens came out the film was praised in part because its subplot of seeking out Luke is an echo of that of the fans. While all Star Wars fans were disapointed by the extremely limited role of Luke in Force Awakens they were also excited at where it left off.  With the next film they would finally get what they had waited 30 years to see.

The Last Jedi came out and those fans expectations were crushed.  Everything else in the film literally does not matter, to those old fans the Last Jedi is the worst film of all time.

That is actually how I see this movie.  I hate this movie more than any movie I have ever seen.  I think its worse than (insert bad movie) here.  It was long boring, and I what I waited for 30 years for was not there at all.  The climatic battles might as well have been fought by paper dolls.  The twists heralded by critics I thought were inanely stupid and disjointed from everything see I have seen.

That said I will admit to being trapped in the tunnel focus of my Star Wars fans expectations.  My daughters liked the film, my wife liked the film.  If you took their reviews they would say it was an A or a B and I would give it an F.  I don't know if I can seperate myself from my expectations to give this film a good non biased review. I think this film has a dual nature to it, where it will be appreciated by a new generation of fans, and hated by the fans that grew up on the originals.  I see very little inbetween here.  Tha insight is likely more meaningful than all the reviews and calculations reviews in the world.

To that end, the critics were not wrong, or bought off, but the fans are also not crazy fanatics.  Both are simply watching the same movie from a dramatically different lense.  New fans are seeing the rise of new hero, where as old fans see a humiliating let down to their old hero.

I do have one question for Disney though.  Will this film create enough new fans to make up for the ones you just lost?  While my wife and daughters liked the film they went because of me.  I have no such impetuts to see the next film.  I am as indifferent to the next film it as a fart in a burrito restaraunt.  This film was daring gamble, but this time the house may lose.

FF 67 Issue where Adam emerges from Cocoon

Adam Warlock is a mixture of a fantasy and sci-fi. He is a cocktail of magic, science and religion.  Almost anything  can appear in one of his stories.  He is one of the primary heroes who stands up to Thanos's attempts to take control of the powerful Infinity Gems.

Alias: Adam, Adam Warlock, Him

First Appearance: Fantastic Four #67

 Origins:
A group of evil scientists called the Enclave have a goal of creating a one world Earth government ruled by an ''enlightened'' scientific dictatorship.    The 4 scientists are all far ahead in their fields and by combining  their efforts begin to develop technology far ahead of the rest of Earth.  They also discover and begin backward engineering ancient alien technology from a group called the Deviants.

There first major break through is the creation of their view of the perfect man, who they call 'Him'.  Him is in a cocoon contraption and inside is building up strength and power.   At some point he will begin having super strength,  durability,  speed and intellect, fire energy blasts and in their eyes mark the next evolutionary step of mankind.  They plan for "Him" to be the first of a new race of people.  Unfortunately, for the Enclave "Him" knows about their plan and he doesn't like it.  He attacks them and escapes along with the Fantastic 4.

Soul Gem
He ends up returning to his cocoon but leaves it to help the High Evolutionary.  Due to leaving the cocoon early he doesn't develop all of his planned powers.  This does not develop all of the special powers that the Enclave had initially intended.  This does not really matter though because he is given the Soul Gem.  The Soul Gem is one of the super powerful Infinity Gems that gives Warlock all kinds of powers.   It has a mind of its own and likes to feed on the life force of being so he has to keep the gem in check.  The soul gem can take peoples souls and stores them inside itself.  The inside of the gem is shown as being a pocket universe paradise, where all the souls it has devoured lounge around getting sun tans and drinking tropical umbrella drinks.  Warlock often uses this power to snatch people when they are in pain or close to a miserable death as he did with Gamora and Pip the Troll.  He himself at one point ends up inside the gem.

Powers:
Numerous with the Soul Gem.  He can fire energy blasts, is super strong, durable, fast and smart.  He can absorb peoples souls into the soul gem.  He can fly, travel vast distances in space.

He later emerges with what is called Quantum Magic which gives him similar powers as those he has with the Soul Gem.

Thanos and Infinity Watch
Warlock becomes a major cosmic hero one of the primary heroes to battle Thanos for control of the infinity gauntlet.
After defeating Thanos he is also the found and member of the Infinity Watch.  Warlock gained control of all of the infinity gauntlet and wisely decides to give up that immense power and responsibility to a group of heroes.  He creates the Infinity Watch.  A group of Infinity gem holders who are sworn to keep them safe and from any one person controlling them all.  Particularly, to keep Thanos from getting them and destroying the universe.

Adam Warlock leading the Guardians of the Galaxy
 Magus

Warlock learns that he will eventually becomes a powerful evil villain called Magus.  The Soul Gem will eventually cause him to go crazy and he will become an evil Tyrant.Magus is one of the more powerful villains in the Marvel Universe.

Some of my favorite Warlock moments:I always liked Adam Warlock he has a totally different weird vibe.  He has the orange skin that radiates light kind of like a Twilight vampire and he wears a medieval wizard outfit that would look stupid on anyone else.  His stories falls into this weird chasm between magic/sci fi/epistomolgy that always makes his stories interesting.  They are a bit reminiscent of the weird/strange stories that were popular in the 1920-40s.

As a kid I picked up the comic below it is a typical of the 90s comics with a fun foil cover.  Those were big in the 90s.  Like most 90s comics it was overprinted by the bazillions and will likely never be worth much but it is still fun to look at.

Warlock when I was growing up was most known for the big Cosmic Event stories like Infinity Gauntlet where he battled Thanos.

MCU:
Ever since Avengers Infinity War was announced Marvel fans have been speculating about the appearance of Adam Warlock.

The first major wave of speculation occured after Thor 2.  Adam Warlock's Cocoon could be seen amongst the Collector's possessions in the after credit scene of Thor 2.   At the end of GotG end credit scene you see the cocoon is now open.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 however it was revealed that the cocoon shown in both Thor 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy was not Adam Warlocks.  Whatever that cocoon was has yet to be shown.  I believe it may have simply been an error on Marvels part and they are now backtracking.

The real cocoon of Adam Warlock is shown in Guardians of the Galaxy where Ayesha of the Sovreign race is talking to an elaborate cocooon said to hold a being she calls Adam.  Warlock could appear in Avengers Infinity War however it is most likely that he will not appear until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

How to beat Tyranitar in Pokemon Go

In Pokemon Go gyms across the world players will soon hear:

"Tyranitar is coming!........."

"Thud"

"Tyranitar IS COMING"

"Thud Thud"

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh" (Loud crunching sounds)

Pokemon Go is gearing up to launch its Gen 2 pokemon.  Some of the Gen 2 Pokemon the babies have already been released.  There are a whole slew of other Pokemon coming and of them all I think the most feared and highly anticipated will by Tyranitar.  Tyranitar is a big, as one would expect from a Pokemon based off a Tyrannosaurs Rex.  It might be more accurate to say he is based off of T-Rex and Godzilla.  He looks very imposing, and will have a massive high CP.  Tyranitar will have the highest Max CP of all the Gen 2 Pokemon coming in at an astounding 3600 Max CP.

Tyranitar is number #1 on the max CP list for Gen 2 Pokemon.
1 - Tyranitar - 3600 CP MAX

Tyranitar is also one of the top Pokemon Counter to use against multiple Legendary Pokemon.  It is a must for Legendary Raids!

That said Tyranitar does have some pretty big Type based weaknesses that should be able to be exploited.  In my mind this may make Tyranitar a attacking Pokemon rather than a gym defender.  That said I expect people to through them into gyms just because he has a high CP.  Many times people just through in high CP pokemon because they will be higher in the gym rankings.  Amusingly a gym of all low CP Chanseys (The Chansey Castle) would be far harder to defeat.

About Tyranitar:

"Its body can't be harmed by any sort of attack, so it is very eager to make challenges against enemies." Pokedex entry from Pokemon Gold
Tyranitar is a Dark and Rock hybrid type of Pokemon.  It is the final form of evolution of Larvitar.  Larvitar evolves into Pupitar and Pupitar into Tyranitar.  Tyranitar's have been depicted in some Pokemon series as being able to evolve into a Mega Tyranitar that is even more powerful.  At this point I do not believe the Mega evolution will be available in Pokemon Go.

One ability that Tyranitar is famous for is Sandstream.  Sandstream creates a sandstorm weather effect that last the duration of its battle.  This gives Tyranitar a massive step up on other Pokemon it is battling.  However, like the Mega evolutions I do not think this will come over into Pokemon Go.  Moves for Tyranitar will likely include:  Crunch -Dark, Earthquake - Ground, Stone Edge - Rock, and Hyper Beam - Normal.   I will say though that many rumors have gone around about expanding the battle system in Pokemon Go so its possible.

Now for the ultimate question!  How do you beat, kill, defeat Tyranitar.  What Pokemon is a counter Tyranitar?

Tip: Generally Try fighting Pokemon!  They will get double type damage against Tyranitar!

Machamp

I don't have a Machamp with a very high CP so for me I will still likely use Prime Ape, Poliwrath or Vaporeon.  That said a Machamp with fighting moves and a high CP would be a good counter against Tyrnaitar.  The FIGHTING moves type damage would be doubled.

Another fighting Pokemon to try is Primeape in particular if you do not have a strong Machamp.

Vaporeon

The first option and I think the one that will be the most popular is using Vaporeon.  I know, I know everyone is saying Vaporeon again?  Well Vaporeon is a water type Pokemon and WATER is good against Rock.  Moreover, Vaporeon is powerful, high CP and also very popular.  I think everyone has a solid Vaporeon.  Too me the abundance of Vaporeon is the number one reason why I do not see Tyranitar lasting long in gyms.  There are just too many high level Vaporeons that will take its lunch.

Poliwrath

Poliwrath is a fighting and water Pokemon and is high CP to boot.  Poliwrath would be a better option than Vaporeon all else considered if he has fighting moves.  Both Dark/Rock have a weakeness to FIGHTING which should double the type set damage delivered by the FIGHTING moves.  The  WATER from Poliwrath will also work well against Tyranitar they just won't get a double attack bonus like the FIGHTING moves will.

Other Good Options

  • Heracross with Counter Close Combat
  • Vaporeon (Or other Water Pokemon with Water Gun, Hydro Pump)
  • Venusaur, Exeggucutor or anything with Solar Beam.

Top 10 villains of the Punisher

Who are the Top 10 villains of the Punisher?

The Punisher has had many villains but it is hard to pick a top 10 list of them in part because he goes through them so quickly.  By quickly we mean he puts the criminals down and then moves on to the next set of criminals.   In the Netflix series Daredevil II, Frank Castle and Daredevil have an exchange about Frank's lethal methods of dealing criminals:

"Yeah, what do you do? What do you do? You act like it's a playground. You beat up the bullies with your fists. You throw 'em in jail, everybody calls you a hero, right? And then a month, a week, a day later, they're back on the streets doing the same goddamn thing!"

"Yeah, so you just put 'em in the morgue."

"You're goddamn right, I do."

"You ever doubt yourself, Frank?"

"Not even for a second."

The lethality of the Punisher means that most of his villains only last a single issue with lucky ones lasting for the run of a series.  The best Punisher villains are those that were part of major stories or managed to survive Frank for a time.  Surivalbility is thus one of the primary attributes of the top Punisher villains.

We have selected the top 10 most notable villains of the Punisher below.

Meet the top 10 villains of the Punisher!

Top 10 villains of the Punisher

    #10)
Rawlins  (Click here to learn more)

Willaim Rawlins is a dirty CIA agent that is the former of abusive husband of Kathryn O'Brien a Punisher love interest.  Rawlin's uses his CIA connections to attempt to put the Punisher down but this does not go the way he plans.  Rawlin's is a villain set to appear in the Punisher Netflix series.

    #9)
Bushwacker (Click here to learn More)

Frank does not often battle super powered criminals.  However, he did take on the bizarre cyborg Bushwacker.  Bushwacker can transform his limbs into a variety of weapons and loads them by eating.  That is right Bushwacker literally eats the ammo he uses.

    #8)
Spider-Man (Click here to Learn More)

The Punisher himself is considered to be a villain of many heroes.  He first appeared as a villain of Spider-Man and has appeared numerous times in Spider-Man comics.  Spider-Man himself has appeared in Punisher books.  Sometimes the two fight each other, sometimes they come to an uneasy truce to take out a worse evil.

While Spider-Man's villains return again and again, Punisher's villains disapear 6 ft underground.  The results of the Punisher often force heroes to take a hard look at themselves and their own morality.  While Punisher himself is forced to do the same.

    #7)
Finn Cooley (Click here to learn more)

Finn Cooley survived an intial attack with the Punisher but was horribly scarred in the process.  With a grotesque visage that matched his countenance he came back to haunt the Punisher only to see himself hunted down himself.  Cooley appeared as a villain in the Netflix series Daredevil Season 2 where Punisher first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  While Cooley seemed to die in Daredevil don't count him out, if he does return expect him to return with a much more horrific appearance.

    #6)
Daken (Click here to learn more)

Daken is the ferocious assassin son of Wolverine and he has the distinction of actually killing the Punisher.  While he sliced and killed the Punisher, Frank was not dead long.  A group of monsters stitched Frank back together and reanimated him as their champion Franken Castle.  This bizarre story had Frank eventually getting revenge by nearly killing Daken himself.

The battle with Daken is one of the more crazy and less grounded Punisher stories but its fun to see Frank go up against someone who is everybit as ruthless himself.

Through Frank's war on crime he has occassionally managed to get help here and there.  Rarely though has he kept that help or allies for very long.  He is the ipitomy of a lone wolf and often sees having friends as a weakness as he goes about ridding the world of the worst of the worst.

Frank temporarily put his lone wolf routine on hold though when he allied with techonological wiz Microchip.  Microchip helps Frank in a variety of ways and altogether upgrades Frank's assets and capabilities as he goes about his war on crime. Microchip becomes closer to Frank than almost any other character and is someone Frank truelly calls a friend.

Unfortunetly, things end baddly for the pair.  Microchip thinks Frank is going too far and tries to have him replaced with a different soldier.  This conflict has the pair of friends putting their sites on each other and only one survives.

One of the bloodyest stories of the Punisher is his battle with the Gnucci crime family.  The Punisher nearly wipes out all of the members of the family and army of hench men.  This makes him the top target of the family's crime boss Ma Gnucci.  While Ma is a tactician herself nothing goes right as she attempts to take down the Punisher.  At one point she is fed to a pack of hungry polar bears and that is just the beginning of her battle with the Punisher.

Not many men survive the Punisher, but Barricuda manages to fight the Punisher again and again.  Though most of those times he ends up losing a body part or two.  With an insane pain tolerance only matched by his own brutatlity Barricuda is a mercenary who can is more than capable of going up agains the Punisher any day of the week.

When the Punisher begins killing off the Gnucci Crime family the crime lord Ma Gnucci decides its time to bring in the big guns.  She finds the best, most ruthless hit man she can find in a man called the Russian.

While the Russian is nearly unkillable Frank after a brutal battle Frank finds a way and cuts off the Russian's head.  When Frank shows up to Ma's estate carrying the Russian's head all of her remaining men flee in terror.  No one wants to go up against the man that took out the Russian.

The Russian appeared as a villain in the film The Punisher where he the two had a massive brutal battle.  The Russian was played by Professional Wrestler Kevin Nash.

Jigsaw is a villain who blames Frank for his very existence and is devoted to taking down the Punisher anyway he can.  Few villains are better at getting under Frank's skin or tactically outflanking Frank than Jigsaw.   While Frank tends to get the better of Jigsaw, he has been unable to put down the villain permanently leading to multiple battles between the two.

Jigsaw appeared in the film Punisher War Zone and is set to be one of the primary villains in the Punisher Netflix series.

Ice Wave incoming - Gen 3 coming in waves for Pokemon Go

    Pokémon Go

Pokemon Go released Gen 2 for the most part all at once. Beginning in the Halloween of 2017 players began to see a different approach from Niantic the developer of Pokemon Go. Instead of releasing all of the Pokemon the company would release a select group of the Pokemon with a various theme. In the case of the 2017 Halloween event a variety of Ghost and Spooky pokemon were released as part of the Halloween Event.

The wave releases seem to be a way for the company to align the pacing of its player base. Niantic saw that hardcore players were qiuckly capturing all released Pokemon in a matter of weeks or even days from the release date.  While more casual players were taking months.  The hardcore players were demanding new releases before casual players had caught many of the new releases.    By releasing the Pokemon in waves it will limit how far ahead a hardcore player could get beyond a casual player.

Whether the Pokemon Go fan base will react positively or negatively to this development remains to be seen.

Niantic released the first 50 Pokemon from Gen 3.  This will be followed by waves that will release more of the Gen 3 Pokemon.

    Ice/Water - 20 new Gen 3 Pokemon:
For the Holiday event Niantic is going to release 20 Ice/Water Pokemon into the wild.  These new Pokemon include:
    • Barboach/Whiscash
    • Carvanha/Sharpedo

What are the coolest Gen 3 Pokemon?

Gen 3 pokemon are in many ways more significant and of a greater variety than the Gen 2 release. Which should get people pretty excited as these Pokemon roll out.

I was personally always a big fan of Mudkip the starting water pokemon of Gen 3.  I also was always fond of the Tortois like Pokemon Torkoal who is basically a fire/coal based Turtle.
I also think Torchic another starter for Gen 3 will be very popular as its definetly the cutest of this batch.

On the cool side are the dragon like Salamence and the bone covered Aggron.

New cool Water Pokemon inlcude the Shark like Sharpedo and the whale like Waillord.

One Pokemon sure to facinate players is the alien like Deoxys.  In the previous games Deoxys did not evolve but could be caught and later in the game altered into various forms.  Deoxys is very unique and rare and will certainly be exciting to catch.

The most powerful Pokemon in Gen 3 include the 3 Regies who are Regice, Registeel, Regirock these golumn looking creatures are known as the 3 Legendary Titans of Hoen.  My guess is that they will be released through Raids.

Rounding out the Pokemon 3 is the super powerful but super lazy Slaking.  It will be interesting to see if combat rules are adjusted to account for this pokemon's immense power.  In the other games he was handicapped by not taking as many moves as the player due to his lazyness.

    Catching the legendary birds-

There were many rumors early on in Pokemon Go on ways to catch Legendary Pokemon.  One rumor was that they were on top of Mount Everest or in Area 51.  These rumors are NOT true.
Legendary Pokemon like Lugia can be caught when you battle in a Legendary Raid.  A raid will appear with a 5 Rydon symbol that denotes a Legendary Raid.  Once the Raid pokemon appears it will be one of the Legendary Pokemon, if it is Lugia you can battle it.  If you successfully beat Lugia you will then get an opportunity to catch Lugia.  To beat Luggia you will to team up with multiple people to help in the battle.  No matter how powerful you are the Legendary Pokemon in Raids are very powerful (Very high CP) and require a large group of people with high level Pokemon.

Optimal MCU Watch List for Avengers Infinity War

The Marvel Cinematic Universe that began with Iron Man in 2008 is now hitting a major climax with Avengers Infinity War.  To prepare for the film many fans are going back and rewatching various of the films. I have been asked if there is a list of films to watch that specifically educate a viewer on the going ons of Avengers Infinity War.

There are 17 films and there will be 18 with the release of Black Panther.  This makes for around 45 hours of film time.  There are also shorts, and various MCU TV shows including some of my favorites such as Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Punisher etc.

There are three paths to take how I see it:
    1) Watch everything in chronological order
    2) Watch only the best items
    3) Watch only the material that most ties into Infinity War

I am going to try to set up #3 so people can refresh themselves and also if some one wants to catch up and feel knowledgable they can.  My goal here is to streamline this list as much as possible but still keep the major plot points.

    Avengers Infinity War Store

Toylab's Infinity Watch List (Short Style):
This is my ultra streamlined watch list:

    1) Avengers
    2) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1
    3) Avengers Age of Ultron
    4) Captain America: Civil War
    5) Thor Ragnarok

Total Hours is approximately - 13 hours

This film order misses a great deal of character introductions but explains the Avengers, the relationships of the Avengers, the Infinity Stones, Thanos, Guardians of the Galaxy, Nebula, Ragnarok, Black Panther and Wakanda. Even Spider-Man and Ant-Man are in Captain America Civil War. Doctor Strange would be given some exposure in Thor Ragnarok.

The infinity stones that are covered include Power (Guardians), Mind (Avengers 1 and 2), Space (Thor Ragnarok)

You miss out on Time (Doctor Strange) and part of Space is missed by skipping Captain America.

Most of the films that introduce the characters are skipped in this watch list.  However, some meaningful character introductions are included Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Panther, Spider-Man.

I feel that a person who watched this list would have a very strong idea of all the major players, the concepts and relationships that will make up Avengers: Infinity War.

    Toylab's Expanded Infinity Watch List
This list still cuts out films that are not related to Infinity War including some gems like Captain America Winter Soldier but it does provide all character introductions unlike the list above.  I did skip Incredible Hulk because I think Ruffalo's Hulk is better introduced in Avengers.  Plus nearly all of the events and characters in the Incredible Hulk have been ignored.  The fact that Bruce Banner himself switched actors I think makes that film more confusing than its worth.  Black Widow's introduction in Iron Man 2 is also missed but once again I feel that she is very well introduced in Avengers.  I debate heavily about including Doctor Strange and Black Panther in the list because both make some appearances in other films.  However, the importance of Wakanda and Strange in Infinity War seem to be high so I think their inclusion makes sense.  This does miss the Aether Infinity Stone from Thor 2 the Dark World but other wise the Infinity Stone material is covered.

    The Expanded List
    1) Captain America: The First Avenger
    2) Iron Man
    3) Thor
    4) Guardians of the Galaxy
    5) Avengers
    6) Avengers Age of Ultron
    7) Captain America Civil War
    8) Doctor Strange
    9) Black Panther
    10) Thor Ragnarok

This 10 film list is approximately 27 hours of film

You will note that I altered the watch order for this list.  The reason I did this is that the introductions of all the characters is handled before Avengers.  Then the films Avengers, Avengers Age of Ultron and Captain America Civil War flow very well together.    Then Doctor Strange and Black Panther introduce the last important pieces of the Infinity War story.  Thor Ragnarok covers what happens to Thor and Hulk and seems like the perfect jump off point to Infinity War and is thus placed after Black Panther.

Thanos appears in Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers (End credit scene) and Avengers Age of Ultron (End credit scene).  Putting Guardians before Avengers does come with slighly akward fact that the Other is killed in Guardians by Ronan but then alive in the Avengers End Credit scene.  I just don't see that character as being very important to the overall narrative.  Thanos is given a fuller introduction in Guardians that will help non comic fans know who he is in the end credit sequences of Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

What films do you think are most vital to watch Avengers Infinity War?  Which films would you change in my lists?  Let me know in the comments below!

Who is Cosmo the Space Dog?

    Who is Cosmo?
    Rich Rider (Nova) meets Cosmo

Cosmo is telepathic dog that lives in space.  Cosmo befriends the Guardians of the Galaxy and helps the team on many of their adventures.  Cosmo is a relatively new character his first appearance was in 2008.  He makes an appearance on Knowhere Station in Nova #8 (2008).    2008 you will find is an important year in Cosmic comics of Marvel because this is the beginning of Abnett /Lanning team up that totally transforms the Marvel Cosmic Universe.  These years give us new characters like Cosmo and also dusted off old, forgotten characters like Rocket Raccoon.  That series is the foundation for the film Guardians of the Galaxy.

Home Planet: Earth (Likely born in Russia / U.S.S.R.)

    First Appearance: Nova #8

    Bio:

The exact origins of Cosmo are still a mystery but it is based off of real events in the Russia Cosmonaut program.  The space program in Russia initially launched dogs into space to see if it was safe for Humans.  If an alien species had been watching our planet one of the first species they would have seen launched in space would have been a canine.  They could have found the dog and wanted to communicate with it and so they gave the dog the power of telepathy.  This could be Cosmo's origins.

Nova Rich Rider encounters Cosmo on the station Knowhere.  On the station Cosmo serves as a Security Officer.  Nova was very surprised to find an Earth dog that could talk on the edge of the universe.  The two quickly become friends and join forces to stop a spate of murders on Knowhere.  The pair found that the villain Abyss was behind the deaths and combined forces to beat and imprison the villain.  As a parting gift Cosmo gave the cordinates to the birthplace of the Phalanx to Rich Rider so he could find a cure to the Transmode virus.  Nova was followed by a murderous Phalanx controlled Drax and Gamora and Cosmo was unable to stop them.

Cosmo becames a liason between the new Guardians of the Galaxy led by Star Lord and Knowhere station.  The group uses the Knowhere station and the technology there as a base for a time on its adventures.

    Silly?
Cosmo like Rocket Raccoon comes off as a bit silly at first.  A telepathic space dog?  As you read stories about him though you really start to love him.  In the end I have decided he is in many ways more believable than many other Marvel characters.  What a telepathic dog is more believable than a rocket human?  Well lets just say he is similarly believable.

    Powers:
Has the senses of a canine but with a higher intellect
Has telepathic powers capable of knocking down multiple teams of super heroes

     Marvel Cinematic Universe:
I think Cosmo may make a brief appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.  Watch for a dog in the Collector's museum.

What Iron Fist stories to read?

Many people know Iron Fist for his appearances in Avengers or cameos in Spider-Man comics.  However, he has never been amongst the super popular upper echelon of Marvel characters.  Despite, this he does have some really good stories that are worth looking into.

If you want to learn more about Iron Fist comics here are some places to start:

    Original Origin story
The original Iron Fist stories were part of the Title Marvel Premiere and eventually moves into Iron Fist.  These stories cover his origins and his coming to America to battle crime.   At this point this collection of stories is about 40 years old but they still hold up well.  Iron Fist's origin is really pretty cool to read.  It also sets up his first major villains in Harold Meachum and Kara Kei death cult.  I expect the Netflix series will mine this material pretty heavily.

When you think about Iron Fist you also think about Luke Cage.  The reason is that both 70s creations were teamed up early on and that team up has become a major part of their of make up.   Its hard to say why the pair work so well together but they have.  The combination of the kung fu white mystic with the steel hard black street fighter.  The partnership has allowed Marvel the issues ranging from race relations to socioeconomics and done so with a deft and human touch.  The two have been in many series together most fall beneath the moniker of Power Man and Iron Fist but also as Heroes for Hire.

    The End of Miles Morales?

    $

    0

Ever since it was announced that Brian Michael Bendis announced that he was leaving Marvel for DC rumors have swirled at what the implications could be for characters that Bendis created or helped evolve.  Top of the list of speculation are Jessica Jones and Miles Morales.

With this backdrop occurring many eyeballs have gone to the title Bendis is finishing up called Spider-Men II that focuses on Miles.  While Miles has now been using the Spider-Man mantle for awhile it has taken some adjustment inside the main 616 Marvel universe he finds himself in.  While Peter Parker died in the Ultimate Universe that Miles is from in this universe Parker is still well and alive.  Parker is also using the Spider-Man name.  This has begun generating a question in Miles as to whether he should continue to use the Spider-Man name or find a new one.  There is even the chance that Miles could choose to retire and not go forward being a hero at all.  Spider-Man II focuses heavily on the origin of Miles and his analysis of the Spider-Man name and what it means to be Spider-Man.

In Spider-Man II #5 Miles begins to come to some grim conclusions.

What path will Miles take?  That is not yet clear but this series does give Bendis a chance to plot the path forward for his beloved take on Spider-Man.

Curiously even as Miles struggles with identity in the 616 universe Marvel has begun to tease that the Ultimates Universe may infact still exist.  This could mean that Ultimate characters like Miles could return to that universe and resume  their superheroic careers there instead of struggling to find a place in the 616 universe.

One question will be how fans take the idea of Miles not being Spider-Man anymore.  Many people have heralded the move of creating a black Spider-Man.  Spider-Man is the most popular Marvel character and arguably the most popular comic character of all time.  That said Marvel has never made Miles "the" Spider-Man due to the fact they still want to make money off of the traditional Peter Parker variant.  Miles has always been the Spider-Man of the Ultimate Universe or one of the Spider-Men existing in the 616 universe.  A name change may allow him to differentiate himself and gain more of a following.

There are examples of successful characters following in the name of original like Tony Stewart in Green Lantern and there are also examples of a character finding a new following by altering his name.  One major example of this would be Rhodey who initially used the Iron Man name but later went off in his own name of War Machine.  A major part of War Machine's success was his ability to capitalize on unique skills and weaknesses from the original making him more than a simple spin off.  Mile's success beneath a different name may depend on much the same thing.  Another major name change was Dick Grayson's change from the side kick Robin into lone hero Nightwing.  The Nightwing name came to reflect a graduation of sorts to a more serious hero.  There is a fear though that once Miles leaves behind the Spider-Man mantle that he could fade into obscurity.

What do you think of Mile's future?  Should he continue to use the name Spider-Man or are you excited to see what mantle he creates for himself?

Ophelia was a ruthless agent and terrorist willing to do anything to complete a mission. She was released from the program and became a high ranking agent of Hydra and eventually became a leader within the organization. As a leader she took on the moniker of Madame Hydra. Using this code name attempted to gain control of Roxxxon. She also created a group called the Serpent Squad. She was defeated by Nomad and the Sub Mariner. As the leader of the Serpent Squad she came into contact with many super villains and became known as power player in the world's black markets. She used a variety of super villains as henchmen including Boomerang, Constrictor, Slither, Puff Adder,Tyrannus, Fer-De-Lance, Black Racer, Copperhead, Cobra and Silver Samurai.

For a time Viper believed she was the mother of Spider-Woman Jessica Drew but this was later
revealed to be a false memory implanted by the dark god Chthon.

As Viper she became a villain of the X-Men and New Mutants after attempting to kill Mariko Yashida to win the graces of Silver Samurai. She also attempted to kill Storm and Rogue on various occasions. She then battled the New Mutants where she seemed to kill Karma (Later changed).

Returning to the world of villainy beneath her old of moniker of Madame Hydra she joined with the Red Skull. However, this ended when he learned she was using resources to finance massacres that served no purpose.

For a time she was married to the X-Man Wolverine after she had blackmailed the hero into the relationship. The marriage helped her gain control of the criminal world of Madripor.  This ended when she was possessed by the spirit of Ogun and mortally wounded by Wolverine.  Wolverine demanded a divorce for taking her to the hospital.  She maintained control of Madripor for sometime but was eventually forced out due to Tony Stark and Tyger Tiger.  Tyger took control of Madripor after Viper.

Another Madame Hydra appears in the form Contessa Allegra de Fontaine who wears a head gear with Hydra tentacles. She however appears to later be working for the group Leviathan. Fontaine shoots and kills Viper however when Hydra arrives they use Hive to resurrect her. After Hive is taken off of her body she resumes the mantle of Madame Hydra.

She is revealed to have retaken Madripor from Tyga and using the moniker of Green Queen in the Death of Wolverine story.

    Powers:
She has no known powers.  It is possible she was experimented on and has a super human longevity.

Viper/Madame Hydra is extremely well trained espionage agent that includes martial combat, terrorism, impersonation, and stealth.
She has shown to be high proficient with ranged and bladed weapons.

She also has a great deal of organization skill in managing terror and criminal organizations.

    Toylab Fun Speculation:
mystery woman 2 avengers age of ultron

We initially suspected that Madame Hydra would appear in the film Age of Ultron due to a fast clip in Age of Ultron Trailer 2 that depicts a woman walking through the Hydra fortress with 2 guns. Based off the red bands on her arms she did not appear to be Black Widow. As it was a Hydra base we then came to the conclusion that Madame Hydra was going to be in the film.

There is in an house theory among some of our bloggers that Joss Whedon had planned to use Madame Hydra but pulled her out so that she could be used in Agents of SHIELD. This would basically be done as favor to his brother Jed. It may have also been done because the movie was getting too long and this was where they decided it was best to cut. This may also explain why Baron Von Strucker is seemingly struck down so quickly in the film. There would have been an extra action sequence before that scene.

Other bloggers disagree and think this is unused footage of Black Widow sporting guns she ripped off of Hydra soldiers within the Hydra fortress.

As it is the clip has yet to be explained. Madame Hydra is going to make her first appearance though in Agents of SHIELD Season 4.

    MCU:

Madame Hydra appears in the ABC Marvel show Agents of SHIELD.  She is played by actress Mallory Jansen.  Madame Hydra is the evolution of the character AIDA in the show that was initially teased at the end of Season 3.

MCU in the finale of Agents of SHIELD Season 3 Doctor Holden Radcliffe was seen talking with what appeared to be computer A.I. named AIDA that Holden had just finished downloading into a phsycial body.  This seems to mark the beginning of both AIDA as character in the MCU as well as the beginning of LMDs (Life Model Decoys).

AIDA makes a startling appearance in Episode 1 of Season 4.  Fitz goes to meet Dr Radcliff only to encounter a beautiful and very nude woman. Very embarrassed Fitz apologizes for barging in. Radcliff then begins to explain what AIDA is and how she mimics humans behaviors. AIDA he explains is different than the AI like Ultron in that she is limited to mimicry. Fitz is seemingly still worried about what Dr Radcliff is doing as he is later shown sleeping uncomfortably. It is possible that the existence of AIDA could cause wedge between Fitz and Simmons. Simmons is currently a trusted adviser of the new Director. Meanwhile Fitz does not want to turn in Radcliff for creating AIDA as he believes the technology has merit.

Radcliff ends up using AIDA to read and decode the magical book the Dark Hold.  Radcliff secretly wants to gain hold of the Darkhold and begins using AIDA and a host of LMDs to replace agents with the androids.  The initial bid fails but Radcliff manages to stay in place by explaining that the Darkhold had negatively influenced AIDA.   Radcliff manages to get hold of the Darkhold in part by joining with the anti-Inhuman Watchdog group led by the Superior.  Radcliff and AIDA begin constructing a fully artificial world called the Frame Work.  The Frame Work is Radcliff's dream of achieving immortality.  AIDA prime directive is to protect the Frame Work however she decides the best way to do that is to kill Radcliff.  She slits his throat and forces his consciousness to remain in the Frame Work.

The world of the Frame Work is revealed to be a world where Hydra has taken control of the world.  In this world AIDA has the persona of the well known comic character Madame Hydra.

Agents of SHIELD Season 5 has Marvel's elite agents sent into a bizarre future where the Earth has been destroyed.   What bit of humanity survives exists on a space station called Lighthouse.  What exactly is this station and did it ever exist in the comics?

First Appearance Comics: Secret Avengers #22

First Appearance MCU:  Agents of SHIELD Season 5 Episode 1

    MCU:
Lighthouse is said to be an old base that was built beneath Lake Ontario beneath a real Lighthouse.  The base was designed to be high technological bunker that could be used in the event of a global cataclysmic event.  At some point in the MCU AOS Season 5 timeline the Earth is shattered by an unknown cataclysim.  It is rumored by some that Quake Daisy Johnson caused the Earth to shatter using her super power.  A small amount of humans survived the event by seeking shelter in the Lighthouse.

The Lighthouse and its survivors were found by the Kree who converted the shelter into a space station.  The Kree wiped out any historical records held on the station and enslaved the humans there.  Inhumans born from the station were used as soldiers or gladiators for the Kree elite.

Around 2090-92 a SHIELD team from 74 years in the past was transported into the station.  This team led by Phil Coulson has been prophesized to return to the Lighthourse to save humanity by a crazy man named Virgil.  Virgil dies before he can tell the SHIELD team how they were meant to save the world.

    Comics 616 Universe:
The Lighthouse is a space station base used by the team the Secret Avengers.  The Lighthouse was created as a special project of Hank Pym (Giant Man) and Hank McCoy (Beast).  Captain America had joked that he assigned the two genius heroes the task of building the base as a means of keeping them busy and out of trouble, he is very surprised at the elaborate and well designed station the two manage to create.

Space Vampires and Blade coming to Agents of SHIELD season 5?

    $

There are some mysterious things going on in Agents of SHIELD and a small bit of evidence has surfaced leading some to believe that Blade could be appearing in the show.

Blade is among the rights that Marvel has managed to bring back in house.  About 2 years ago at SDCC 2016 there were some interesting things said by Wesley Snipes that talks were being had between himself and Marvel about the future of Blade.  2 years later and one mysteriously scrapped Blade comic later and there still is no word at all about Blade.  Marvel has been completly mum about the character.

That might be about to change.  Lorraine Cink was interviewing Jeff Ward the actor who plays Deke on Agents of SHIELD and she tweeted out something pretty interesting:

Got a chance to meet the very charming @JeffWard1230 AKA Deke from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. today. I can’t wait for you to see the cool things we are cooking up. Keep an eye out in 2018! #AgentsofSHIELD #Blade.

Lorraine went on to claim that the Blade reference was only meant because it is Jeff Ward's favorite character but.........?  The show did manage to get appearances of Deathlok and Ghost Rider so maybe its possible that they could also get at least a version of Blade to appear on the show.

While the show is currently dealing with a science fiction and time travel story that seems like an odd fit for Blade the show is still toying with some elements of the supernatural. In particular the Framework program that was created by the dark magic book the Dark Hold still exists. Beyond the framework there is one element in particular that makes me believe that the show could be headed toward Blade.  What could be happening in a space environment that would lead me to this conclusion.  Well how about Space Vampires.

    What about Space Vampires?

Is Lady Basha and her red eyed people actually space Vampires?

The show also has introduced a group that seem to be red eyed aliens who like blood sports.  This group of aliens is led by Lady Basha who continually does not show up to invited dinner of the Kree overlord  Kasius of the Lighthouse station.  Could Lady Basha actually not be an alien but instead be a vampire?  I have been trying to determine what alien Lady Basha could be but have been coming up with blanks however one group in Marvel that is humanoid with red eyes are vampires.

Maybe she is not showing up to dinner because does not want to reveal what she eats...........blood?

I think the race or species of Lady Basha has cleverly been omitted.  No one has said who they are.  This is peculiar because the aliens Vrellnexians and the Kree were named very quickly in the show.  Why would the show hold out on the name of Lady Dasha's people?  It seems that her species whatever it is a piece of the puzzle of where the show will go.  Nothing would lead fans more than the revelation that Lady Basha is not an alien but a vampire.  This would also explain why the show does not want to show her eating as that would give her secret away.

Facts supporting Lady Basha being a Vampire:

    • Humanoid
    • Red Eyes
    • Species Unnamed - Why not named if it does not reveal something
    • Sees humans as lessers / cattle
    • Not shown eating / drinking this would be a give away if she is a vampire

What do you think could Season 5 be headed toward Space Vampires and Blade?  That is a pretty awesome combination if you ask me.  Am I crazy or does this theory make sense.

D&D is now cool but how do you get started?

Did you get the memo? D&D is back.   Not only that it seems like it may become more popular than ever.  The new core set is selling well, there are shows about it online, and many new releases are coming out.  The 5th edition of D&D has managed to bring back old players and make many new players.

I have been seeing D&D articles come out over the past 2 years talking about its sudden resurgence.  Most were from geek, board game blogs but recently I have begun to see articles on D&D come out from the Newyorker?

New Yorker: The Uncanny resurrection of Dungeons & Dragons

    And the Hollywood reporter:
Behind Hollywood's closed doors - A list stars are playing Dungeons and Dragons

The game has also been appearing more and more in popular TV shows.  Big Bang theory has devoted a few episodes to playing elaborate Dungeon and Dragons quests.  The show Community had a highly popular Dungeons and Dragons episode.  Of course the hit show Stranger Things has also grafted Dungeons and Dragons into its first and 2nd seasons.  While these appearances sometimes are used to push the idea that their characters are geeks something weird has happened recently.  Geeks are cool.  Therefore things like comic cons are now...........cool.   And it seems Dungeons and Dragons are now cool.

I am longtime fan of D&D and throughout the 90s ran a campaign with friends.  My friends and I generally kept are gaming a secret like we were doing drugs or something.  In the case of D&D it was to avoid all the nerdy labels that seemed to come with it.  Its kind of surreal to be at a time where people are asking me, hey have you heard about this D&D thing and how do I get into it?

To be honest, though I am a D&D fan I have kind of just stared, slack jawed as people ask me this.  My body gets all wobbly and I tilt about debating if have entered some bizarre parallel dimension.  As these questions have begun to stack I went ahead and resurrected by D&D group but I quickly ran into a problem,..........Too many people wanted to come over and play.  Holy F#%#ing  Owlbear Balls!  I still have not figured out how to solve that issue currently I have a list!  Seriously I have a list of people who want to come to my house eat Papa Murphys pizza, drink micro brews and play D&D.

As I have restarted D&D in this new environment I thought I would offer some advice on how start up your own D&D crew.  You don't need to take this advice they are just friendly tips.

    1) Don't Panic
D&D is a game played by adolescent children while there are lots of weird stats and things its not as complicated as you think.  Don't be afraid of being Dungeon Master though also don't discount letting someone else taking on that roll as well.

    2) Buy the 5th Edition Core Set
The Coreset for 5th edition comes with directions for 5th Edition, Dice, player sheets and a quest book for the Lost Mine of Phandelver.  The whole set provides you everything you need to get going.  The Lost Mine of Phandelver is a quest campaign that has a menagrie of fantasy stuff in it and also is jam packed with tips for a new DM or Dungeons Master for you noobs.
I hate to tell you to buy things but really this set can usually be found for 25 dollars or less and has everything you need.

    3) Check out D&D Youtube videos:
There are a few shows online that focus exclusively on D&D or other role playing games.  Watching them can give you great ideas on how to play and also inspiration for your own quests.  A few of our favorites are Critical Roll that stars voice actor Matthew Mercer as he leads a typically hilarious group through a quest.  There is also WASD20 a Dungeons and Dragons fan who walks you though quests.  Dungeons and Dragons also have an official channel on Youtube that called DNDWizards that has many celebrities, and other all around D&D experts.
You can learn a ton from watching this stuff.

    4) Some more D&D resources for you:

Donjon - This site can create all kinds of things randomly to add some fun to your game very easily.  It has everything from name generators, treasure generators, encounter generators and even an Inn generator.  You can pull a quest out of your butt so fast and give it unbelievable depth using Donjon.  I normally run a couple of random things and merge them together.  Throw out the stuff you don't want add a couple of things you do and voila.

D&D Map Builder - This site creates an instant Dungeons and Dragons -Dungeon Map.  This is a cool resource to help build a quick dungeon map.  Much like Donjon keep what you want and discard the rest and you have a very quickly built dungeon.

Reddit Monster a Day Reddit has this page devoted to a variety of weird D&D monsters that you can use in quests.

The Homebrewery - The Homebrewery allows you to make official looking directions/ quests and maps.

Dogmight Games - Dogmight creates awesome wood accessories that really add some pow

Kobalt Fight Club - Can run calculations from Monster Encounters so you don't have to.

    5) Forgotten Realms Books:
Forgotten Realms is one of the most popular worlds for D&D to be set in.  You do not have to use it but its always there if you want to take a quest there.  One of the best ways to learn about the world is to simply read a few of the books.  Due to all the material that exists on Forgotten Realms I tend to recommend new DMs to start here before branching out.

    6) Find Friends
There is one more thing you must do! You must find some people to play with.  This really used to be the very hard part about D&D.  Asking that friend in the cafeteria if he wanted to join your D&D group almost caused as much anxiety as asking a girl out.  I have found this has become much easier recently.  There are a lot of adults who either want to get back to playing D&D or are curious about playing it.  One way to do it is simply to ask your facebook friends if they are interested in forming a group.

New Mutants is going to be a film set in the Fox X-Men Universe but will have a very different.horror tone and star many characters that have appeared in any films before.  Just because some of these character are lesser known don't for a moment think they are 2nd rate.  Remember that Deadpool himself first appeared in New Mutants #98.  This film will likely stand on its own but it may have some easter eggs or ties to Deadpool 2.
