Who is Tetu?

Tetu is a villain of the Marvel hero the Black Panther.  Tetu appears as a member of the terrorist / liberation group known as "The People" who challenge the authority of the Wakandan monarchy. He first appears in the 2016 Black Panther series by Ta Nehesi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze.

Tetu was a student in the prestigious Wakandan academy called Hekima Shule.  There he studied under the rebelious leader Changamire who taught provoking political theories including that Wakanda should politically evolve beyond their monarchy.  Tetu eventually left the school and sought answers in the wilderness of Africa.  There he came across nature spirits from whom he was given great powers.  He returned to civilization determined to bring down the Wakanda Monarchy that in his opinion had failed the people. Wakanda had been ravaged in events like the Doom War, Namor's Flood, and Thanos's Army.  This left the political structure ripe to be overthrown.  As the Black Panther had failed to protect the People.  To Tetu it was time the People rose to overthrow the Black Panther and take the reigns on their own governance.  Tetu found an ally in an ex Nigandan soldier named Zenzi

Tetu sought out his old teacher Changamire to gain an ally in his cause.  However, Changamire turned him down.

Zenzi created a riot where there was violence between the Wakandan people and government authorities.  She fled and escaped when T'Challa arrived on the scene.  T'Challa hunts down Tetu and Zenzi.  He slams Zenzi into a tree knocking her unconscious.  The Hatut Zeraze (Wakandan Secret Police) storm the area and the militia members of the People are defeated.  Tetu reveals he has the power of controlling vegetation which hes uses against Wakandan authorities.  He picks up Zenzi and carries her away.

Tetu and Zenzi are seen meeting the Midnight Angels who are reluctant to join with Tetu.  They seem to be creating their own unique movement.  Tetu and Zenzi are seen meeting with Ezekiel Stane.  Together they begin to turn volunteers into human bombs to conduct terrorist bombings in Wakanda.

They also video tape and distribute the damning words of one of the tyrants brought into consult with T'Challa on how to stamp down rebellions.  The words and video are edited to be taken out of context but then distributed and broadcast throughout Wakanda making T'Challa seem even more out of touch with his own people.



Powers:

Tetu has gained the ability to talk to nature spirits that allow him to control vegetation.

Able to gain insights through spiritual meditation

Who is Man Ape?

Man Ape is a Wakandian villain that frequently battles the hero the Black Panther..  Man Ape is domestic rival for the the thrown of Wakanda and challenges the path that the Black Panther has taken the nation.  Man Ape is also a reoccurring villain of the Avengers.  Man Ape will appear in the MCU film Black Panther and is set to be played by actor Winston Duke.

M'Baku is a great warrior in Wakanda 2nd only to T'Challa the Black Panther.   T'Challa begins to drastically modernize and technologically enhance the country of Wakanda.  M'Baku believes the country is losing its identity and he wants T'Challa to stop.  However, T'Challa is if anything accelerating the level of change.  Disenchanted with T'Challa's rule M'Baku begins building a small army of allies who want to return Wakanda to a more traditional state.

When T'Challa leaves the country on Avengers business M'Baku sizes the opportunity.   He recreates the forbidden White Gorilla cult.  Then he hunts and eats one of Wakanda white gorillas in a ritual.   The ritual gives M'Baku the strength of a gorilla.   He then changes his name to Man Ape.

When the Black Panther returns Man Ape attacks him and defeats the hero.  However, the Black Panther is saved when the giant totem he is tied to falls and seemingly kills Man Ape.

Man Ape is brought back to life and continues to be a thorn in the side of the Black Panther.  He joins numerous villainous groups like the Lethal Legion.

Despit their differences he is invited to attend T'Challa's wedding to the Ororo Munroe the X-Woman Storm. At the wedding Man Ape gets drunk on skotch and attempts to pick a fight with Spider-Man. Spider-Man does not take his bait. Man Ape is later seen killed by the devourer of totems, Morlun. He has subsequently been revealed to be alive but this has not been explained.


 Powers:
Man Ape is a very gifted warrior with the strength of a white gorilla.

Importance of Man Ape:
Man Ape is represents a different more traditional opinion on the changes within Wakanda.  While Klaw is the catalyst for the changes in the country, Man Ape is a back seat driver.  He is a bit like the guy who always thinks he could do better than the leader.
Man Ape is also a very strong and powerful foe who actually beats the Black Panther numerous times but never manages to kill him.

Actor Winston Duke is set to play Man Ape in the film Black Panther (Release date Feb 2018).  Winston is known for his role Dominic in Person of Interest.  He also had a role in the show Messengers playing the character Zahir Zakaria.  Winston is a pretty big actor standing at 6 '6 1/2" and certainly fits the bill for the physically imposing Man Ape.  Man Ape should look larger than Black Panther to present a physically imposing challenge so the size of Winston is a positive.

Man Ape will likely not be the major villain in the Black Panther film and may only be introduced in the film as another powered person in Wakanda.  He has is also reported to be in Avengers: Infinity War.  Its possible he could be heavily featured in a Black Panther sequel.

He does seem to appear in a few scene in the teaser.  One scene he and his clan is confronting a group of Dora Milaje.  He is holding a man up by his kneck in a threatening manner.  There is also a car chase scene that looks like it could be members of the White Gorilla clan.

Nate Moore Producer of Black Panther explained to Entertainment Weekly that M'Baku will not be called Man Ape in the film as they felt the character could be crossing into dangerous territory.

"We do call him M’Baku. Having a black character dress up as an ape, I think there’s a lot of racial implications that don’t sit well, if done wrong. But the idea that they worship the gorilla gods is interesting because it’s a movie about the Black Panther who, himself, is a sort of deity in his own right."

He further explained the political points of M'Baku by saying:

"In M’Baku’s worldview, T’Chaka made a huge mistake going to the U.N.," Moore adds. "‘We should never engage with the outside world. That’s a terrible mistake. And if his son is anything like his father, I don’t support him being on the throne."

This part III in our collection of Pokemon Go Mobile Backgrounds this one focuses on backgrounds specifically related to Team Mystic. Some of the artwork for Mystic simply focuses on the team logo, others use the mascot of Team the feared, Legendary Pokemon, Articuno.

My four year daughter old looked up at me the sweetest puppy dog eyes.

"Daddy your phone has a Star Wars pictures, but..." Her brow furrowed as she began cross indexing who knows what in her little noggin...."We are playing Pokemon.  Can you make it Pokemon?"

A thought occurred to me in this moment.  Why the heck did I not think of that.  This is a mobile game that has people buying hats and shirts to show their Pokemon pride, why on Earth had I not switched my phone background.  4 year old gauntlet dropped, I accepted the challenge to find a great Pokemon mobile background.

Here is what I found:

First there are TON of Pokemon Go backgrounds and they fall into a few categories.  First you have you general Pokemon background that might feature Pokeballs or screen shots from the old cartoon.  Then you have backgrounds that are based around a specific Pokemon (Normally Pikachu and Snorlax).  Finally, you have a growing amount of backgrounds based off the three teams Valor, Mystic and Instinct.

In the end my favorites were a background that looked like a PokeDex and another of Pokeballs.  I also really like the team covers from the PokeWares group those are awesome.  There are so many I think I am going to have to break this post down into sections.

Who is Cloak?

Cloak is a comic hero in the Marvel universe that has usually appeared with his partner Dagger.  He was conceived along with his longtime partner Dagger in the early 80s by comic creator Bill Mantlo.  In April 2016 it was announced a Cloak & Dagger TV show was coming to ABC Freeform.  Actor Aubrey Joseph will depict Cloak in the TV series.

Tyrone "Ty" Johnson was a 17 year old from Boston, Massachusetts.  He had debilitating stutter that greatly affected his social interactions.  He suffered a taumatic incident when one of his friends was killed by Police officer in part due to his lack of being able communicate.  The police had believes his friend to be a dangerous robber when in fact he was not.  The incident was a catalyst in Tyrone running away from home to NYC.

In NYC, Tyrone is eyeing stealing a purse from a young blonde woman.  Before he can steal it another mugger steals the purse.  Tyrone instinctively chases down the theif and returns the purse to the young woman, Tandy Bowen.  The two later go out to dinner and become fast friends despite growing up very differently they both find they are runaways.

Tandy naively accepts an offer for shelter from two strange men.  Tyrone's common sense says that something is wrong and joins Tandy to protect her.  The two find themselves as experiment guinea pigs of Simon Marshall.  Simon was working as a chemist for the crime family the Maggia and its leader Silvermane attempt to create a new form of streetdrug.

Somehow the pair managed to survive and escape.  They soon find that the drug created mutations in both of them.  Tandy is infused with Radiant light that she can fire out as knives.  Tyrone finds that much of his body has been engulfed by shadow.  He quickly begins to don a cloak to hide parts of his transformation.  Tyrone finds that he is filled with a hunger for life force that is only eased when in the presence of Tandy's light powers.  If he is not around Tandy, Cloak will fully consume the life force of people, killing them.

 After the transformation the two use their powers to beat down some of Marshall's thugs.

The two used their power to battle to the crime family the Maggia.  They kill both Simon Marshall as well as Silvermane.  Silvermane later returns as part cyborg but is once again defeated.

They later help Spider-Man thwart an assassination attempt on the Kinpin by the Punisher.

Maximum Carnage:
The pair join the forces of Spider-Man to battle the insane supervillains released by Carnage in the Spider-Man event known as Maximum Carnage.

Civil War:
The two take the side of Captain America in Civil War but generally try to stay out of the fray.  They do help transport the New Avengers using Cloaks darkness teleportation.

Powers:
Cloak can create a hole into the Dark Dimension.  He can send people into the Dark Dimension and leave them there or teleport them to another place using the Dark Dimension as a mode of transportation.

Intangibility

Cloak feels a hunger that can only be fed from the light powers of Tandy/Dagger or by dispatching and consuming the light of victims that he brings to the Dark Dimension.

Actor Aubrey Joseph has been hired to play Cloak in the TV series Cloak and Dagger.  The TV series will be on the Freeform network.  The show will be part of Marvel's wider Marvel Cinematic Universe including its films, shows Agents of SHIELD and the Netflix series the Defenders.  Aubrey has had roles in "The Night of".

Black Panther is a great movie
I watched Black Panther this weekend and it was absolutely epic.   Anymore that is no secret the film has a 97% and has made a stellar $200 million dollars in less than a week.   Currently, the film is set to be the highest rated Superhero film and potentially the highest earning Superhero film.........EVER.

My grade for the film is 10/10.  It really is a great great movie.

There are a lot of reviews out there but I did want to highlight a few things that struck me as a Black Panther fan.  By that I mean a fan of Black Panther before he appeared in Captain America Civil War.

Wakanda Wakanda Wakanda

Going into the film my biggest worry is that Wakanda would not feel right.  Wakanda is one of the most interesting Marvel locales.  Marvel has Asgard, Latveria, Atlantis and Wakanda but of all of those places Wakanda is most special in that it really is a pure Marvel concept. 
I wanted to see the mix of traditional African culture with that of the future.  I wanted to see technology on people that looked casual and cool.  I wanted to see a ton of Kimoyo beeds and being used in the different ways we see them in the comics.  I also wanted to see a Wakanda that at a philosophical crossroads with itself.  With a new ruler who is had already fought alongside the Avengers I wanted to see the impact of that on Wakanda and the outside world.

Result:  Wakanda kicked the living crap out of my eyes and expectations.  The film had awesome locales all around Wakanda.  Some felt traditional, some felt high tech, some felt in-between.  All the sets were awesome.  The biggest thing I would call out were the scenes where T'Challa was casually strolling on the street of Wakanda and you had a sense of Wakandan street foods, Wakandan music, all the traditional things mixing with the high tech aspects of their society.  That scene really made Wakanda feel organic and real. 

Beyond the realness of it, Wakanda just felt cool.  The art, the music, the sytyle all came together in this very hip way.

Wakanda fully exceeded my expectations.  Bravo Coogler just for getting this right was worth the price of admission.

Black People As Smart and Capable

For the record I am a white dude and maybe it will surprise to see to some of you for a white dude to have this on his list.  Personally I see this as one of the most vital aspects of the Black Panther story.  People all over the world are very used to looking at Africa as a place that needs help, but the convenient may be far better off we looked at as a place, that simply needed our respect.

They really showcased the capabilities of Wakanda with all of the characters who were great in their own respects.  However, Shuri in particular stood out as being special by being this extremely intelligent engineer whose smarts exceed that of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner.  It will be fun to get her together with some of those characters in Avengers Infinity War.

On top of capability and intelligence I should also add beauty.  Holy heck is this cast and their outfits in this film insanely beautiful.  It really did not matter if the characters were going for a hip modern look or traditional they all just looked breathtaking.


Dora Milaje

I had a feeling going into the film that the Dora Milaje were going to be awesome.  They were.  The work on their outfits and on their fighting styles and technology just made them into something fabulous and unique.  Each of them felt like their own super hero by the time the film ended.

It would have been easy for the Dora Milaje to just be body guards shown as a minor easter egg in the back ground similar to how they were in Civil War.  It was a real joy to see them fleshed out, and given large arc and importance throughout the film.

When you have a place as powerful as Wakanda you need a villain that can create a real threat.  This was done by both Klaw and Erik Killmonger.  In the end, the film focused more on Killmonger that very elegantly wove together the internal conflict of Wakanda with the external threat of Killmonger.  The scene with Klaw in Korea and the epic battle in the end were both highlights.  Of course M'Baku was also thrown in as a pseudo villian in an intelligent way.  I kind of wanted to M'Baku as Man Ape but understand why they didn't go that route.


Black Panther film is a massive success I believe for having a director who mined all the details out of the source material and very crafty pieced them together.  You could feel the love from the creators to the actors that went into this film and made it something uniquely fantastic.

The crazy thing about this film is that I think the company will no doubt be pursuing creating Black Panther 2 over Spider-Man 3.  This film catapulted T'Challa to the tippy top of the Marvel ranks and I think he brought a whole lot of Wakandans with him.

How to beat Lapras in Pokemon Go

Lapras is a big Pokemon that looks like an aquatic Dinosaur.  In Pokemon GO it is pretty rare but has shown up at the top of many gyms.  It is very powerful.

In the cartoon of Pokemon Ash saves a Lapras from team Rocket.  He later catches and rides Lapras.  Lapras is such a big water Pokemon that a person can ride it like a boat.
That is right when you fight a Lapras you are basically fighting a huge dinosaur that is big enough to use a boat.

I personally really like Lapras but I have found it very hard to find.  The only reliable way I have found to get one is to get a lot of 10k eggs.  You also need to find those 10k eggs from a proper place and where that place is seems to be anyone's guess though your best bet is to get Eggs from Pokestops close to water areas.

There was a large Lapras event that occured in Japan where Lapras became much more common.  Many Pokemon Trainers actually traveled to Japan to catch the pokemon there.







HOW TO BEAT LAPRAS!

Lapras is technically both a WATER and ICEPokemon. It might be easier to counter the  WATER side of this behemoth though because the counters to it are easily found.

Dual type Pokemons are tricky!


Top Lapras 5 Counters:
The Toylab Bloggers have gone through and used both mathematical statistics as well as field testing to determine the top counters to Lapras.
The fact that Arcanine is on the list may surprise people but keep in mind its an offensive cannon and its Wildcharge movie is Electric.  Exeggutor was listed as the top choice by our blog for awhile it suffers from its weakness to Ice.  The more I battle Lapras the more I like Machamp.  Machamp is really the Champ against Lapras and there is no comparison.

• Machamp (Counter, Dynamic Punch, Close Combat)
• Heracross (Counter, Close Combat)
• Jolteon (Thundershock, Thunderbolt, Thunder)
• Arcanine (Fire Fang, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Wildcharge)
• Exeggutor - The best Pokemon vs Lapras from an Offensive perspective.  However, it has a defensive weakness due to Ice moves from Lapras.  Exeggutor is still the best Pokemon to use against a Lapras with water/dragon move sets.

Some additional Thoughts!

Fighting Pokemon 
Fighting Pokemon like Machamp or Pokemon with Fighting moves like Heracross should do well against Lapras.  Unfortunetly, Prime Ape is typically low in CP to do much damage to a Lapras.

Grass Pokemon
The trick with Lapras and all WATER type pokemon is to use a GRASS or Electric Pokemon.  GRASS  Pokemon have a defensive and offensive advantage against water Pokemon making them by far the best to take them on. In previous games WATER attacks were cut in half when used against a GRASS Pokemon and the effect of GRASS  Attacks were DOUBLED!!!

Weakeness Issue with Grass - ICE
One issue with using a GRASS Pokemon against Lapras is that if Lapras has an ICE attack that attacks power will be doubled too!!!  This means you roll the dice somewhat with a GRASS or at least hope that both or at least one of its attacks is WATER.

Which GRASS  Pokemon to use?

You want to know why Lapras is sitting on top of so many gyms look no further than how rare and unpopular the GRASS  Pokemon are in the game.   Which one do you build?  Any one you can.  I have seen a variety of WATER Pokemon doing very well in Pokemon Go (Like Vaporeon) and I think it has to do with how few built up GRASS Pokemon there are.

Make sure you pick a Grass Pokemon that also has GRASS Attacks.  This gives the Pokemon advantages in both attacking and defending.   This will make it competitive against Lapras.

The best option against Lapras is not a GRASS pokemon but an ELECTRIC.  While Grass should work well due to the weakness from ICE attacks ELECTRIC is better.

Electric Pokemon like Jolteon!
Another good way to take down Lapras is with evolutionary cousin Jolteon.  Jolteon's ELECTRIC attacks are super effective against WATER Pokemon.  That is right ELECTRIC attacks work well against WATER pokemon.  They just don't get the defensive bonus that the GRASS pokemon have vs WATER.  They also do not get the defensive weakness that WATER has to ICE attacks though.  To me this is a huge upside to using an ELECTRIC pokemon vs Lapras.  At the very least the Defensive risk is lower.

Add in the other ELECTRIC type of Pokemon in here for good measure like fan favorite Pikachu / Raichu.

I would watch the attacks a Lapras is using if it is using WATER. attacks use a Grass Pokemon, but if it is using Ice attacks use an ELECTRIC Pokemon.

So go out  play some Pokemon Go and kick some Lapras butt!

Winter Soldier and Black Panther are going to go at it in the upcoming film Captain America: Civil War.  The Black Panther will likely have a good reason for pursuing Bucky my guess is that the Panther believes that Bucky killed his father.  This leads to the battle who will win?

Well initially my thought is that Black Panther would take the Winter Soldier pretty easily.  Keep in mind the Panther was able to take down each member of Fantastic Four in individual bouts.   I also tend to think of Bucky as Captain America's side kick.  Lets back up though Bucky is heavily trained in combat and battle tested in WW2, he then has an added lifetime of experience of as a Soviet/Hydra assassin.  Granted a lot of this experience is messed up due to his mind being wiped, repeatedly.   Also he has super strong highly reflexive cybernetic arm.

The Black Panther matches the Winter Soldier with his own form of highly advanced martial training.  He has been trained since to birth to take on the Black Panther mantle.  He has also been imbued with added strength, speed, reflexes and durability from a mystical Wakandan plant.
The Panther sports a highly advanced suit that his made of light weight but nearly indestructible Vibranium mesh.  He also has a variety of high tech Wakandan gadgets and weapons.

My thinking:
I tend to think that if the Winter Soldier catches T'Challa outside of his suit then Bucky with his arm would have a serious advantage.  However if Black Panther is in his suit though T'Challa will be protected from just about anything that the Winter Soldier can throw at him.  In the end, I think Black Panther wins this fight and likely takes someone else.

In this first fight, Bucky fights T'Challa without his suit.  Yes, in this case Bucky has an advantage.

In this fight the Panther is more prepared for Bucky and well... I can only guess but I think the Panther has an edge in this one.

Marvel 2018

One thing is really clear about the Marvel 2018 announcement.  Marvel wants to reboot its universe and not use the word reboot.  However, you feel about them rebooting again (I believe this will be the 6th time in 8 years).  The problem with not calling something a duck, when it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck etc........Is that everybody knows its a duck and your message just gets muddled.


Consider this statement from C.B. Cebulski:

When I think about what's next for us and our fans, four things come to mind: new creative teams, new series, new directions and new beginnings.
We have a lot of incredible comics coming out in 2018, and AVENGERS #1 will be an important milestone for every Marvel fan. There are so many spectacular stories with amazing art leading up to May, and we hope you'll enjoy these previews of our fresh start.

Huh?  So what is it?   Just some #1s or a whole new thing, is it an event?  What?  Alright Tom Brevoort steps into explain:

Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be rolling out new beginnings for a few of our key franchises–new creative teams, new starting points, new storylines—all the big stuff that we've been building towards since LEGACY began. This isn't a clearing of the slate—while these new starts will kick off with new #1s, we'll be maintaining the classic LEGACY issue counts as dual numbering on these titles as well. Oh, and don't read anything into not seeing a character on the Jim Cheung piece... we can only squeeze so many characters onto there without killing poor Jim!

Ok so the major arcs of Marvel comics are starting over at 1, with new teams but its not a reboot?  Alright.........

Marvel just my advice, Just reboot the damn thing.  I know Legacy was supposed to be last reboot but its pretty boring and stale.  You have new creatives on top just go ahead and blow it up and start over.  I am serious.  Just do something cool enough where I won't want you to blow it up for awhile.

Of the 3 books mentioned I actually think the concepts of all 3 sound and cool.  The Black Panther in space book I think has major potential after the blockbuster film.  Too bad it was not timed to come out right now though.

One other thing that seems clear from the main image is that finally the Inhumans are being put to rest.  It seems that the Fox deal has finally squashed the misguided attempt to turn Inhumans into Mutants.  I actually think the Inhumans move may have been one of the worst ideas from Marvel ever. 

So while I still don't know what to call Marvel 2018 I will say the following issues do sound pretty cool.

I normally only recommend 4 trades from Amazon however I have linked directly to 8 here.    I highly recommend Don McGregor's Black Panther Jungle Action the 1973series which fleshes out Wakanda.  I grew up on and love Christopher Priest's Black Panther that modernized the character.  The recent Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet is also phenonemal, while being very different from all other comics.

First I want to start with some thoughts on the Go Plus and also speculate a bit on the upcoming mysterious new Pokemon Go device that is supposedly under development.

Do you have a Pokemon Go Plus?  Do you like it?  I have played with mine sometimes and I have to say that I am glad I have it.  I do use it.  However, I have to say that Pokemon Go Plus is really for the more hardcore players and the experience using the Go Plus is not particularly thrilling.  I have heard that Pokemon Company / Nintendo are working on a new device that will allow people to play the game safely.  By "safely" I assume in a manner where you can walk or move around without being focused on your screen.  Go Plus does this pretty well which is why I like it.  Its really easy to casually play Pokemon Go without drawing a lot of attention to yourself or being distracted by it.  However, it is not nearly as fun.  By losing all of the animations that are present in the game itself the experience is much shallower.  I am really hoping what ever the new device that the company is planning that it does replace the actual game.  My true hope is that the game itself gets a lot more depth added to it.  You can read my post on the features I would like to see added to the game below:

There are some rumors that Gen 2 Pokemon are being delayed as the company is waiting for this new device to come out.  This would allow them to avoid bad press from players doing dumb things while playing the game.  I really don't put much stock into those rumors.  I think the Gen 2 launch is being delayed for one primary reason.  The company can't do many more releases of additional pokemon so each one must count.  So the timing of the release really matters. I think the real reason they are holding back is to time the release with spring and warm weather.  For most people in the world its cold right now and the release would have a muted effect on those places.

Skin Covers
Anyways on to what this post is about.  I really like my Go Plus and have been searching for some fun ways to customize it.  One of the really awesome fun ways to do it are with these Pokemon Go Plus stickers.  Each of the stickers is the form of a popular Pokemon.  If you have multiple Go Plus's in a household this is a cool way to customize them so each player can tell their device apart.

Here are some of my favorite ones:

The Company that makes these covers is called Pot Life Printing and I do not know much about them.   From the site I see they are from Rowland Heights California.  It looks like the primary thing they make are these leather Pokemon Go Plus stickers.   Here is the description they use for their covers.

I personally like that these stickers are made out of leather and not some cheap paper sticker.  If you are going to wear on your wrist you want something more substantial that paper.  The prices on these leather stickers are also really reasonable around 7 dollars.  I would make a cheap gift for the Pokemon Go lover in your family.

Snorlax - Pokemon Go Plus Skin:
If you know anything about me you know that I love Snorlax.  Really he is just behind some other favorites of mine like Charmander and Jolteon.  This Snorlax cover looks super cool and is made of Leather which I think is really awesome.  I love how it looks on the Go Plus.  The Snorlax is round naturally so him being round works really perfectly.  I will also say that when I go Pokemon Hunting in a new area I also like to go out to eat and hey lets face it eating and Snorlax just go hand in hand.



Gengar -Pokemon Go Plus Skin
Ok this Gengar one is a little sinister looking but hey its Gengar its supposed to be.   I also think it looks really great.  Its by the far the edgiest of the Skins I  have seen and I think there are a lot of people who will dig that.



Pikachu - Pokemon Go Plus Skin
Of course the Pokemon's mascot of Pikachu is available.  I think the roundness of the Plus makes him look a little chunky but thats ok he is still really cute.  I think of all the Skins this is the cutest one.  It is also the brighest.  I think this one will stick out the most because of how bright it is and also because of how recognizable Pikachu is.  If you want to tell people you are playing Pokemon then this is a great one to get.  If you would rather be more incognito then I'd recommend picking up one of the other ones.


The company makes a few other ones but the ones above really stand out to me.  I did see a Lapras one that could be really cool.  I am STILL HUNTING FOR LAPRAS!!!! Maybe I need to get a Lapras Skin in order to get better Lapras hunting luck.

Gamora is a hero in the Marvel Universe.  Gamora is known as the most deadly woman in the universe a title earned from reputation as an assassin.She later repents for evil ways by joining with heroes like Warlock, the Infinity Watch and the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Gamora was adopted and trained by the villain Thanos.

Gamora and Nova

Gamora's species, the Zen Whoberi were annihilated and she is the last of her kind.  This annihilation was at the hands of the Universal Church of Truth or the Badoon (depending on timeline).  Thanos adopts her and trains her to be a living weapon.  He is not a kind father but does help her gain considerable powers.  By the time Thanos is done with her she has the well earned reputation of being the most deadly woman in the galaxy.  She has romantic relationships with both Adam Warlock, Tony Stark and Nova Rich Rider.  The Adam Warlock romance was fairly one sided as Warlock did not return her advances.
Over her comic history she has possessed the time infinity gem and she has also spent time living (basically dead) inside the soul gem.

She also has possessed the Godkiller dagger which is considered to be one of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel Universe capable of killing even a Celestial.

Powers:
Super strength, speed, durability, reflexes, agility.  She has a very high level of training in martial arts, weapons and military combat.  Is considered to be among the top martial arts masters of the Marvel Universe.  She is a highly trained assassin and very knowledgeable of the Marvel universe its different species and their powers and tactics.

She has been heavily and ruthlessly trained by Thanos from a very young age.

Temporary Powers -
Godslayer dagger- Possessed a dagger that could slay even god like beings.
Time Infinity Gem- Possessed infinity Gem of time that gave her some precognitive visions.

Relationships:
She is a member of Guardians of the Galaxyand a former member of the Infinity Watch.


She has father/daughter relationship with Thanos.  Not a good father daughter relationship she hates and wants to kill him.
She has had romantic flings with Nova and Tony Stark.  In the movie it appears she may develop a relationship with Starlord.

MCU
Gamora is played by actress Zoe Saldana in the film Guardians of the Galaxy.  In the film Gamora betrays her adopted father Thanos to steal an infinity Power Gem.  In doing so she helps found a group of cosmic heroes / misfits called the Guardians of the Galaxy.

How did Thanos die in the comics?

As the Avengers Infinity War film approaches the Avengers are on a much teased collision course with Thanos.  Many will ask the question how is Thanos killed or defeated in the comics.  Here is a collection of notable times he has been killed or soundly defeated.  This post will layout who kills Thanos on each occasion.

Thanos is very much designed to be one of the biggest baddest bad guys in the Marvel Universe who is capable of going toe to toe with a multitude heroes at once.  Even without the Infinity Stones is he one of the most intelligent, ruthless, skillful and strongest fighers in the Universe.  To make him even tougher Thanos is often contending and using the powerful Infinity Gauntlet giving him God like powers when they are all assembled.

What might surprise people is that Thanos has actually died numerous times and is killed by multiple heroes.  Warlock who in the early years of the character served as the heroic nemesis of Thanos once told Thanos that the Mad Titan loses on purpose because deep down Thanos knowns he is unworthy of the powers he is accumalting.  Thanos has another weakness is that he creates many powerful enemies.  Not only does Thanos tick off all of Earth, but he also angers many cosmic entities including the Watchers, Galactus, Mentor of Titan, The Elders of the Universe and other mysterious entities like the Beyonder and Eternity.  The final weakness of Thanos is that his infatuation of death may lead him to wanting to die to be with Mistress Death.   This really is his ultimate weakness in Thanos's heart he wants to die and be with death.  This is his goal.  Yes this goal make unquelchingly evil and mad as well, that is what makes Thanos so utterly terrifying.  What lengths will he go to in order to impress death?  There seem to be no limits.

The characters that have killed Thanos include Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Thane, and Doctor Doom.  Thanos is also one of the ultra powerful characters who were defeated by Squirrel Girl.

Ironically, despite Thanos's desire to die and be with death he is continually resurrected and denied his wish.

History of Thanos Deaths:

First Death - Cosmic Cube and Infinity Gem story:

The first death of Thanos occures in the cosmic cube story that introduces the idea of powerful artifacts that could give a villain like Thanos god like, universe shattering power.

Thanos kills the powerful Warlock in this story but Warlock's soul goes into his soul gem.  Spider-Man and the Thing manage to inadvertently free Warlock's soul who returns even more powerful than before.  Thanos is turned to stone and shatters dying.

Thanos is next seen with the fallen hero Mar Vell whom he welcomes into death.  The two wade together into the beyond.

Defeat in Infinity Saga

In Infinity Saga Thanos is brought back to life by Death herself.  Death is perturbed that there are more living things in existence now then there are dead things from all time.  In an effort to rebalance the universe Thanos is revived with the aim of eliminating enough living beings so that the dead will outweigh the living.

In this story Thanos gains God like powers and wipes out half of all life in the universe.  However mistress death still gives him the cold shoulder.  Eventaully, Thanos is told by Warlock that he allows himself to be defeated because he knows that he is unworthy of the power he has accumalated.  He lowers himself and is eventually killed.  Effectively in this story Thanos defeats himself.  Though he does not die here.

Annihilation - Death

In the the story of Annilalation Thanos is involved with a few other big bad guys named Annilus and Galactus. Thanos wants to oppose Annihilus but before his plan can work he is killed by Draw the Destroyer. Drax whose family had been killed by Thanos had been hunting Thanos ever since his creation. It was not until this moment that he succeeded in actually killing the Mad Titan. Unfortunetly, for Drax the death of Thanos could not have been at a worse time and the heroes must then figure out how to defeat Annihilus without him.

As Nova is near death while battling Annihilus he has a vision of seeing Thanos standing next to Mistress Death.  This vision is similar to the one scene where Thanos welcomes Mar Vell into death after his first demise.

Thanos Imperative - Infinity

Thanos is not left dead for long.  The universe is threatened by a different universe where life has conquered death called the Cancerverse.  This cancerverse begins spilling into main universe consuming it like an unstoppable parasite.   Seeing the need to stop life, heroes resurrect Thanos as the ultimate agent of death to defeat the Cancerverse.

Thanos helps defeat the Cancerverse and survives for a time in various forms of imprisonment.

A freed Thanos begins to seek out his son Thane to kill him.  However, Thane gets the better of his father and imprisons him in a form of stasis or living death.

Cabal and Secret Wars

Killed by Doctor Doom

Namor frees Thanos from his state of undeath and adds him to the Cabal.  The Cabal is a group that lands on other Earths (Different Universes) and destroy them so the two Earth's can avoid a universe ending collision.  Eventaully, this gives rise to final collision, which ends in the Marvel event Secret Wars where Doctor Doom acquires god like power.

Thanos survives the final collision of Earths and lands on Battleworld many years after it was first created.  He immediatly creates a rebellion against Doom not fully understsanding the latters immense power.  Emperor Doom then kills Thanos.

Ultimates / Civil War

Thanos is returned to life by accidentally through the actions of Galactus.  He forms an alliance with Hela in an attempt to gain control of the Ultimate Universes Mjornir.  Thanos is still alive at the present time.

Curiousily Warlock, Doctor Doom and Thane do not exist yet in the MCU.  This means that it will likely be up to Drax or tricking Thanos to defeat himself.  Not a good situation for the heroes to be in during the Avengers Infinity War film.

There has been a renaissance of sorts around the art work of Rocket Raccoon.  The once forgotten character is now bigger than ever.  What really makes looking at Rocket Raccoon art work interesting is that each artists has his own take on how to draw him.  Some look human, some look primal and some look cartoony.  They are all just so fascinating to looking at.  I spoke to some artists at different cons who are submitting their designs of Rocket to Marvel.  Some of these looks could be appearing in comics soon.

HOW TO BEAT SLAKING!!!!!

It was confirmed recently that Gen 3 Pokemon have appeared in the game data so their release is emmininet.  There are a variety of Pokemon that people will focus on once Gen 3 is released but king amongst them is going to be Slaking.  Slaking looks like a lazy Ape.

"Slaking spends all day lying down and lolling about. It eats grass growing within its reach. If it eats all the grass it can reach, this Pokémon reluctantly moves to another spot" Pokedex entry from Pokemon Ruby

Wherever Slaking lives, rings of over a yard in diameter appear in grassy fields. They are made by the Pokémon as it eats all the grass within reach while lying prone on the ground." Pokedex entry from Pokemon Saphire

Slaking is a Normal Type Pokemon.  Slaking has two pre-evolutions in Slakoth and Vigoroth

Slaking is basically the Snorlax of Gen 3 with many of the same attributes.  Slaking is a giant, lazy Pokemon.  The big difference between Snorlax and Slaking is that Slaking is less of a sleeper and more just plain lazy.  As amusing as that is, Slaking is still ultra powerful as it is able to unleash massive amounts of energy it saves in battle.  Slaking is expected to have a CP level somewhere in the 5 thousand range.  That is right 5 THOUSAND!!!!!!!!  To be exact the mathematical expectation for CP is 5441!

A 5 thousand CP Pokemon?

Yeah this is the weird thing about Slaking.  In the games in which Slaking was first introduced he was ultra powerful but balanced by a bizarre ability called "Truant".  Truant would only allow Slaking to attack once every 2 turns.  This ability helped balance out what would have otherwise been a far too powerful Pokemon.   In Pokemon Go though there are no abilities.  It remains unclear if steps will be taken to lower the CP level of Slaking (Nerf him) to compensate for not having "Truant".  It is also possible they slow his attack speed, or alter his move set.

It is also possible that the Slaking could be treated as a Legendary Pokemon.

Hot Tip: Generally Try fighting Pokemon!  They will get double type damage against Slaking!

A lot of the Pokemon you use against Slaking will be similar to what you use against Blissey and Snorlax.


Machamp

Machamp has just become one of the super necessary Pokemon to have in the game.  You need him vs Blissey, vs Tyranitar, vs Snorlax and yes now vs Slaking.  Find yourself a Machamp Raid or Machamp Nest and build him up.  His importance is not going away.

Machamp is still the premier of all Fighting Pokemon but you can try others.


Another fighting Pokemon to try is Primeape in particular if you do not have a strong Machamp.


Rhydon

Rhydon is a solid all around Pokemon with strong CP, and a defensive advantage over Slaking.


Poliwrath

Poliwrath is a fighting and water Pokemon and is high CP to boot.  You would want to use a Poliwrath that had all fighting moves to battle vs Slaking as only the Fighting moves would get the boost.

Heracross

Heracross with the move set of Counter /Close Combat. Heracross actually is better than many of these options however it is so rare I struggle to recommend it. If you have a Heracross with Counter / Close Combat then you should bering it out to battle against Slaking.

In Generation III one new pokemon with Fighting Moves being added is pretty special and that is Blazken.  Blazken is one of the Gen 3 starter Pokemon it evolves from Combustken, that evolves from Torchic.  Blazken is a Fire / Fighitng Pokemon Hybrid.
With a high CP Level a Blazken with Fighting Moves could become the top Fighting Pokemon to use in the game.  You will definetly want to hunt down Torchic early on for this reason.

Who is Ajax?

Ajax is a villain of the anti-hero Deadpool.  He is one of the main villains in Deadpool's origin story.  Ajax has killed Deadpool twice but each time Deadpool regenerated from his critical wounds. Ajax will be featured in the film Deadpool (2016) and played by Ed Skrein

Francis is an enforcer at the "Workshop".  The Workshop is a lab run by Doctor Killebrew.  The Workshop is full of washout and rejected super people from the Weapon X program.  As Weapon X had no use for them they were sent to the Workshop to be experimented on, dissected, and eventually killed.  It was in a effect a hidden dark site hospice the eliminated super soldier experiment failures, while attempting to research better ways at creating them.

Francis is provided special upgrades that make him very formidable fighter.  These upgrades included trimmed nerves that eliminated pain, super strength, super speed and an intuitive ability to predict opponents moves.  The intuitive ability appeared to go beyond a hyper reflex and allowed him to react to opponents moves before they made them.

Wade Wilson ends up in the Workshop after his added healing factor appears to not work.  He taunts and teases Francis making an enemy of the enforcer.  Francis sets in motion a plan where Deadpool is forced to mercy kill an inmate, a break in the Workshop's rules, and punishable by death.  After Wade Wilson breaks the rule, Francis attacks Wilson and rips out his heart, seemingly killing him.  Rather than dieing however a heart regenerates in Wades chest, his healing factor finally triggered.  Wade takes on the name of Deadpool as the survivor of inmates death pool in the Workshop.  Deadpool hunted down Francis and kills him.........or so he thinks.

Francis survived Deadpool's attack and further upgraded himself to become the cyborgnetic monstrosity known as Ajax.  As Ajax all of his powers were increased by a metal suit and he began hunting down and killing everyone that had anything to do with the workshop.  This ended in a confrontation with Deadpool and Killebrew who joined forces to bring him down.  Killebrew managed to burn away a section of Ajax that exposed nerve wiring.  Deadpool later lured Ajax into water where he short circuited and died.

Ajax will be featured in the film Deadpool (2016) and played by Ed Skrein

Ed Skrein talked to Digital Spy his role as Ajax as well as his upcoming film Transporter Refueled about the look of his character for the film.  He explains how the version on the screen will be based off the first version of the character but not large suited version that comes back. 

"No, we don't go too deep into Ajax's backstory. We mention it, it's very faithful to the first section of Ajax in the comics, the backstory that we see, the flashbacks in the comics, and so we're very faithful to that. There's a second half of Ajax in the comics, where he comes back five years later with this big crazy suit and stuff, and we didn't touch on that, so this is the early Ajax. We've stayed very faithful to that."

So do not expect a metal suit on Ajax.  Just expect a really bad ass fighter, that is strong, cruel and hyper fast.  Skrien also went on to explain how he felt the Deadpool movie was going alter the formula of the Super Hero film.

"It's a lot edgier than the stuff that you'll normally see. That was a priority for us from the beginning. We'd been so blessed and we're so lucky to have had all these superhero movies so far, but we possibly have become saturated by them so they're possible coming formulaic. Also, they're maybe not quite as faithful to the actual feeling that we had when we were 13 years old and reading comic books, like 'I can't believe he just chopped someone's head off and said something like that, and then stabbed someone in the eye, and then ran off and did all this crazy stuff!'

Doctor Minerva is a super villain in the Marvel universe.  She is part of the militaristic Kree aliens and is an enemy to Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel.  Minnerva's primary goal has been the advancement of Kree evolution at any cost.  Actress Gemma Chan was cast to play Doctor Minerva in the film Captain Marvel.

Minn-Erva was born in the city of Edelix on the planet of Kree-Lar, where she became a renowned geneticist.  She was eventually elevated to be a high level agent of the Kree Empire.   She encounters Mar-Vell and tries to convince him to have a child with her. Her genetic research indicated that a progeny of the two would be exceptionally powerful and could advance the Kree species.  Mar-Vell dismissed Minn-Erva as being crazy.  She is then ordered by the Science Council to abandon her mission.  She refused but is forced to return to the Kree empire.

Doctor Minerva then reappears with the super powers of Carol Danvers.  She used a machine called the Psyche-Magnetron to give herself these powers.  She along with a fellow Kree Captain Atlas kidnap Quasar in an attempt to steal his Quantom Bands.  Quasar manages to defeat her and banishes her from Earth.

Doctor Minerva was seen watching over a de-powered Ronan the Accuser in a farm house. 

Minerva and Captain Atlas are also caught trying to raid the tomb of Mar-Vell by Quasar.  The pair then join Kree Super Team called Starforce as they battle the Shi'ar.  Starforce was meant to be a Kree super equivalent to Shi'ar Royal Guard.


In the Spider-Verse storyline - Amazing Spider-Man #7-8
Minerva creates a scheme to steal a Terrigenesis coccoon containing a new Inhuman.  She believes by studying the cocoon she can jump start Kree evolution and make a new form of Inhuman/Kree super soldiers.  She is opposed by Spider-Man and Ms Marvel (Kamala Khan) who battle her.  She manages to transform herself into a giant monster. When it is discovered that Minerva's evil project is not sanctioned by the Kree Empire, Spider-Man uses this against her.  He threatens to tell the Kree empire of her actions and she abandons her plan and retreats.

Quasar #32 from some reason mine has a #1

FROM THE VAULT 

The Toylab Vault holds a large collection of comic books and every once in a whileone is pulled out, and dusted off.  Lets see what secrets it holds...

Today we are going to look at the comic Quasar #32 it is mostly an overlooked book.  I actually bought it years after it came out for a  measly $1.40.  Which is nothing considering a few of the interesting things that happen in the book.

The numbering #1 or #32:
One bizarre thing on this book is that it was sold on stands with a #1 on it.  This was to represent the #1 of Galactic Storm an event it was leading into.  However people who were getting Quasars received a copy with #32.  Just for giggles I own both a #1 and a #32 I do not know which is more rare.  I personally had more trouble finding a copy with #32 on it.

Historical Significance:
First appearance of Korath the Pursuer
First Kree and Shi'Ar war
Also one of the first appearances of the Shi'Aar imperial guard.

Story Summary:
The bulk of the story concerns Quasar palling around with StarFox going to the tomb of Mar Vel.  There they run into a couple of trouble makers from the Kree empire Captain Atlas and Dr Minerva.  They inform Quasar that the Kree and the Shiar are now at war.  This is the beginning of the first  Kree Shi'Ar war.  The two are at Mar Vel's tomb to retrieve Mar Vel's Nega Bands.  Which will be used later to create the massive Negabomb.

Quasar quickly subdues the two interlopers however he is then immediately attacked.by what seems to be the entire Shi'Ar Imperial Guard.  These end up being illusions.

The real interesting thing in this comic happens in two pages in middle of the book. We leave the action at Mar Vel's tomb and enter a factory on the edge of the Kree empire.  An angry cyber geneticist named Korath-Thak is disgruntled.  He is has been placed as a lowly foreman in a factory on the fringe of the massive Kree empire.    Apparently, the new leaders of the Kree empire who took over for the Supreme Intelligence did not see the value of Korath's Pursuer Project.  Not one to take things lying down Korath uses his technology on himself turning himself into the super human Korath the Pursuer.

Who is Ma Gnucci?

Ma Gnucci is a villain of the Marvel anti-hero the Punisher.  She has not yet appeared in any films but is often mentioned as one of the Punisher's most infamous villains.

Real Name: Isabella Carmela Magdelena Gnucci

The Gnucci family was running the bulk of the illegal activities in NYC with Ma Gnucci leading the group as its Matriarch.  With money coming in from a variety of illicit enterprises Ma was able to gain influence over both the city's mayor and the police commisioner.  She was aided in running the family business by her brother Dino and three sons Eddie, Bobbie and Carlo.   The Punisher decided to send a message to the criminal community of the city by taking down the Gnucci family piece by piece.

The Punisher first took out each of Ma Gnucci's sons.  Then he took out her brother Dino and a slew of Gnucci soldiers in the process.  The Punisher outwitted and killed a variety of vigilantes sent by Ma Gnucci and took their weapons and money.  Ma Gnucci managed to track the Punisher down to the Central Park Zoo where she hoped to get the drop on him.  While the Punisher was nearly unarmed he took out all her soldiers and fed Ma Gnucci to the Polar Bears.

Some how Ma Gnucci managed to survive being mauled by Polar Bears but she lost all of her limbs and was horribly scared in the process.  When someone asked her how she was, she told one of her men to shoot him, when that man balked she asked another man to shoot the first two and so on until she had 4 dead men at her feet.  She then placed a 10 million hit out on the Punisher which was taken up by the infamous mercenary the Russian.

While the Russian went to kill the Punisher Ma was told that she would not recieve any more soldiers from the crime familes having gone through 80 men since the battle with the Punisher began.  To her shocked horror Frank appeared on her front lawn holding the head of the Russian.  All of her remaining men left refusing to die in a battle with the Punisher.  Frank burned down her home with her in it.

6 years later a villain who was the son of the Elite faked the reappearance of Ma Gnucci as part of a revenge plot against the Punisher.

Deadpool was hired to kill the Punisher by Peter Gnucci hoping for the Punisher to die so he could inherit Ma's money.  While the Punisher is believed dead and he recieves the check he ends up dying in a traffic accident before he can deposit it.

Ma Gnucci Skills and Powers:
Ma Gnucci is a criminal mastermind with no super powers.  She is the leader of the powerful Gnucci crime family.

MCU:

Ma Gnucci has not appeared in film or in the MCU.

Thor is coming back as Thor

This June 13th, Jane Foster's version of Thor known as the mighty Thor is going to die soon.  Jane has been dying from cancer ever since she took on the mantle / name of Thor 3 years ago.  While Jane took over his name Thor has been using the name Odinson or Unworthy Thor.

Thor will get a Hammer back however it is not expected to be Mjolnir.  He will also still have his prosthetic arm but it will change from dark colored arm to a gold one.  While Thor may not get his own Hammer or arm back he is expected to get his name back so he can stop going by Odinson.

The plot line of Thor losing his hammer and his mantle was started about 3 years ago.

Who is Korath the Pursuer?

Korath is a character in Marvel comics who has been depicted as both a villain and a hero.  He is a scientist of the militaristic Kree race, who gave himself super powers.  Korath is in the film Guardians of the Galaxy and is played by Djimon Hounsou.


First Appearance:Quasar #32 (1992)

First Appearance Note: One of his robots actually shows up in the comics prior to his first appearance.  The pursuer robot appears in Inhumans #11 in 1977 and Korath does not make his first appearance until Quasar #32 in 1992 (15 Earth years later)

Korath Thak is a member of the Kree aliens.  He is a genius cyber geneticist who is a master at combining machine technology with biology.  Korath is a loyal agent of Supremor aka the Supreme Intelligence and leads what is called the Pursuer project.  The Pursuer project purpose was to create cyber warrior hunters for the Kree militia.  At first he created a range of pursuer robots.  One of these robots battled the Inhumans.

Korath is decommissioned and sent to a fringe world factory.  Unhappy with this he decides to use the pursuer project technology on himself.   The pursuer technology gives Korath superhuman strength and the ability to hunt people by isolating their brain wave patterns.

Korath joins the Kree super-team called Starforce in the Kree Shi'ar wars.  On the team he serves with other well known Kree heroes such as Ronan the Accuser.    Supremor orders Korath to attack the Avengers who are on Hala.  In the battle Korath battles the hero Captain America.  He is present when Deathbird becomes the new leader of the Kree and then Supremor taking over after her.

Korath is sent on a mission to assassinate the Lilandra the Queen of the Shi'ar during this time the Negabomb goes off wiping out much of the Kree empire.  He returns with Lilandra and joins in a mission to help rebuild the Kree empire.

Korath apparently died when he was assimilated into the Phalanx and became one of their select.  As zombie of the Phalanx he was killed after attempting assassinate Adam Warlock.

Powers and Skills:

• Super strength
• Super stamina
• Super durability
• Cybernetic Tracking capabilities he can hone in and follow people across the galaxy by tracking their distinct brain patterns

Expert in cybernetics, highly trained in the martial arts of the Kree

Equipment:
Cyber armored battle suit - composed of unknown highly durable metals and can fly
Batons- Can stun anyone for a time, have been shown to even work on Eternals

Movie:
Korath is in the film Guardians of the Galaxy and is played by Djimon Hounsou.  He does not appear to be blue, but still looks otherworldly and bad ass.

Toys:
Korath will be joining the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy as a Lego mini.

Korath will also have his own Hasbro action figure.  Notice he has some similar markings on his armor as does Ronan.  Ronan's appear much similar to the markings on the Blue Alien in AoS.  Perhaps, his markings are special to the Blue Kree:

Art work has started to come out from Valiant on the Shadowman series that will start in March 2018.  Shadowman is my personal favorite character at Valiant though I have grown to love Livewire, XO-Manowar, Bloodshot and Ninja-K.  Something about Shadowman though strikes a deeper chord than all the others, he really feels like a product of the 90s of his era and the era I was a kid in.  I think that his birth in the 90s makes him automatically a bit different than characters from the 50s and 60s that make up the big pillar characters of the big 2 company's.  Shadowman was the dude of Valiant and he was in the 90s.

Shadowman is coming!  Shadowman is coming!  I am so excited I want to yell down and scream it like Paul Revere.   To put this in perspective this is like Valiant's Super Man series starting after a long hiatus.  Its a big deal.  Is Shadowman like Super Man in any other way No.  He is straight 90s! Dark, menacing, hints of a anti-hero, flawed and with awesome powers that kind of scare you.

Ok crap now I have that portlandia song stuck in my head "The 90s are alive in Portland"  Awww crap.  Seriously, though picking up a Shadowman comic for me is like being transported back into the time of Nirvana and Tupac.

Also since I already mentioned Portland I would remiss if I did not mention that Voodoo Donuts in Portland will be selling special Shadowman themed Donuts as a promo.  There is a Voodoo Donuts in Denver however I don't think the Denver location is participating.   These were created for the comicspro event on Feb 23, I am not sure if they are still being sold or not.  However, I think getting Voodoo Donuts on March 28th to go along with Shadowman #1 release is an awesome idea and I may just do that.  Stay tuned to the Toylab Instagram on that day!

This particular version of Shadowman looks different than the last for a few reasons.  First the quality of Valiant has been top notch for the past couple of years.  Their books have freaking delivered in every way.  Each book has high quality art inside and out, with dramatic cohesive story telling.  The story telling at Valiant also has been unique in that their books have been allowed to start and finish arcs without being interrupted by giant Comic Events.  Its been a nice ride.  Each one has managed to be unique and tell its own story, with writers supplying their voice.  The art for each series has been well maintained by giving each artist enough time to supply their style of art.    I have handed Valiant books out to friends recently who were initially dismissive of Valiant and their reaction is always "Holy Sh#$#! this is F#$#ing great!" and I'm like yeah I know that is why I am telling you need to start reading them.

I want to share some art from it and also post some of the recent news that its been coming out from the Valiant Voice Newsletter.  On top of the series having impressive art, they also have plans for the series for the full year with a cool book planned for Halloween.  Basically fans can expect a regular monthly series with awesome art, cool story and with Valiant biggest character, Sign me up.
