Concerns of Stan Lee continue to mount - Elder Abuse?

The world's most famous creator of comic book heroes Stan Lee is no spring chicken.  He finds himself in a position where people are questioning his care.

There was a recent video of Stan Lee on TMZ where Stan says he has pneumonia and is staying in his home.

Stan's position seems increasingly vulnerable after his wife's passing and the push aside of many of his longterm associates.  Adding to the worries about it are the separation between Stan and his longtime friend Max Anderson.  Max has aided Stan in the business end of life for many years.

To whom it may concern,

I know Stan Lee as well as one can, having not had daily contact with Stan. I have met his wife, who was a charming, lovely, and intelligent person. I have met his daughter only briefly when she worked as a receptionist at Marvel Comics. She was not liked by anyone I spoke to, and I haven’t heard anything good about her since then except a few people’s brief encounters, at which time she was described as charming and gregarious. Stan’s loss of his wife, Joanie, devastated him as if he had lost everything because, in effect, he had. She was the dream wife, the model actress, the blonde vivacious girl he met in England and was lucky enough to marry. a straight talker, and there’s no bullshit with Max Anderson. He had his own agenda as anyone with a brain would have, but he was dedicated and devoted like a dog to Stan Lee. Some people don’t like street punks. But I would place my family’s safety in the hands of a street punk rather than a lawyer or conniving businessman.

Stan had a devoted, perfect man for his needs in Max Anderson. And now — if anyone wants to understand why I am terrified for Stan Lee’s life right now, just read the news. You could say, “why do you give a damn? Stan will be dead soon,” and I would tell you that my family kept my mother alive between the ages of 80 and 93, and I treasure that time. I have cried knowing what has happened to Stan.

I do not know the answer to this one. I know that Stan needs Max just as a farmer needs his dog. The only advice I have for anyone involved is to please, please have the police continually monitor the situation for anything that might endanger Stan. For the sake of us all who love Stan, remember that depression affects life. Please protect him until Max can once again act on his behalf as his guard dog. This is street-level stuff, folks. It really is.

Update: 4-11-2018 ITS ALL ABOUT SANDWICHES

Nothing to see here folks just a disagreement about sandwiches.

Bleeding Cool reporter Rich Johnston talked to Stan's daughter JC about the news around Stan and she says that she was worried about how Stan was treated at Silicon Valley Con.  She also said that the crux of the argument is that she wants to invest in a business called Stan's Super Subs which would be a sub sandwich restaurant that would have comic artwork on the walls.

I have no idea of the veracity of this however I have to say I'd try a Stan Lee Sandwich so maybe they are onto something.

Update:  4-11-2018 - Hollywood Reporter calls out bad actors - 

Hollywood reporter says in a new article that Stan is being taken advantage of by lawyers who are going through his daughter JC to go after Stan's trust.  Stan Lee is estimated to be worth between $50 and $70 million.  The lawyers who are acting through JC have pushed out many longtime Stan Lee associates including his friend Max Anderson and even his gardener.  They have also created a situation where there is a revolving door of accountants.

The Feb. 13 document, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, begins with some background, explaining that Lee and his late wife had arranged a trust for their daughter because she had trouble supporting herself and often overspent... It goes on to describe how, when he and his daughter disagree — "which is often"— she "typically yells and screams at me and cries hysterically if I do not capitulate"...Lee explains that J.C. will, "from time to time," demand changes to her trust, including the transfer of properties into her name. He has resisted such changes, he states, because they "would greatly increase the likelihood of her greatest fear: that after my death, she will become homeless and destitute."

The declaration then explicates how three men with "bad intentions"— Jerardo "Jerry" Olivarez, Keya Morgan and J.C.'s attorney, Kirk Schenck — had improperly influenced his daughter, a woman with "very few adult friends." The document claims the trio has "insinuated themselves into relationships with J.C. for an ulterior motive and purpose": to take advantage of Lee and "gain control over my assets, property and money."

Stan Lee came out with a video seemingly going against the article.  However, many wonder if this statement was coerced.

In the video, an animated and robust Lee goes on to state that "my relationship with my daughter has never been better, and my friend Keya Morgan and I also have a great relationship … anybody who is saying anything [else] … is just spreading lies."

Included in the article are mentions of 300k being funneled out of his accounts for a questionable loan, a purchase of a nearly million dollar condo, and setting up of a questionable business that is disguised as a charity.

I wanted to strongly echo the words Neal Adams expressed regarding his concern about Stan Lee’s wellbeing, and this bizarre smear campaign against his friend and manager of the past years Max Anderson, apparently instigated by these new mysterious “caretakers” of his. I’ve known Max for years and I completely agree with Neal, Max always looked after Stan and his wife Joan like the doting son they never had. He adores Stan and Stan adores Max.

Besides almost single-handedly architecting Stan’s tremendous financial turnaround this past decade through aggressively negotiating appearances all around the world, I happen to have personal knowledge that Max has also quietly looked after him by accompanying him to the sets for all his cameos in the Marvel films, regularly took him to his medical appointments, would often just visit Stan when he’d get lonely, the list goes on and on. In fact, Max and Stan have been very visible and regularly in public together for a decade, practically inseparable.

Forcibly cutting Max out of Stan’s life, and so soon after his wife Joanie has passed seems particularly cruel to the both of them and has caused a lot of us in our industry to talk, much of it about our collective concern about the mystery of who exactly is taking care of Stan now and why is he being kept out of sight and in his home, especially given these reports that he’s been battling pneumonia. I mean, think about it, instead of being taken to a hospital, this ill 95-year-old man is being kept hidden away in his house, the only glimpse of him filmed for exploitive TMZ videos?

Max took much better care of Stan than this. I have great concern for Stan and I do hope more in our industry start speaking up, start asking more questions and start shining more of a bright light on this situation to find out what’s exactly going on here before it’s too late.
