Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is Rad

Review of Dirk Gently and/or a Sandwich verdict for both is the same They are Rad.

Two nights a go I was making myself a sandwich. Not an unusual behavior for me in the slightest. This is kind of a sad ritual of consuming a bunch of calories I don't need after the kids go to bed. For some reason, Sandwiches taste great in a relatively quiet house. My wife is watching something on TV. I'm not really paying much attention to it, because its "Sandwich time" and heck because if my wife is watching it, it likely has something to do with cats. A little black kitten goes across the screen, 'Yup has something to do with cats' as I tune out the show and continue gnawing on my sandwich. Then my wife says something a little bit weird, she says "Dirk's Gently Holistic Detective Agency is Rad"


Dirk Gent......Who?

Holistic Detect..........Whahhh?

Question Question Whahhhhhhh and its "Rad"

A bigger question here might have been who says Rad anymore but I suppose that answer is too easy.....my wife. She says Tubular too. Bizzarely she never watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.


My head must of cocked curiously sideways like a perplexed Labrador trying to understand why the cat poops in a weird little box. I think I might have murbled something to the effect of.....

Luckily she used to my guttural language of my sandwich eating and she proceeded to tell me that this was a show based off of a story by Douglas Adams. Douglas Adams famed author of genius and hilarious Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. Alright, just like that I'm sold. I don't know what a Holistic Detective or a Dirk Gently is but I am there.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is Rad. This show made me forget about my sandwich.

Dirk Gently is a bizarre detective who simply takes a case of his own choosing on the basis that all things are connected.  He does not look for clues, or use much deductive reasoning perse he simply tries to see how A connects to B.  He does not get paid by people who hire him, he is simply paid vis a vi the universe.  Effectively karma pays him for his good actions.  As this season Dirk has taken on a case to solve a man's murder who has not yet been killed.  Dirk runs straight into Elijah Wood's character a downtrodden, bell hop named Todd like a giant hot torpedo of crazy.

I really enjoyed this show. This might be the best show Ive watched this year I think goes up there with Stranger Things. Its funny, its confusing in a good detective sort of way, mixes in the surreal, the sci fi, into a cobbled web of a story. Like all of Douglas Adam's stories there is a lot here, a lot to take in but the funny. This show made me laugh, made me think, and made me wonder, like really truely wonder about what was going to happen next.  There were great and very human heroes, despicable villains and others that you debated about the whole time. This is a show had a lot of fun in puzzling the viewer.


I read a review from one of "major" entertainment channels and the lady watched the first two episodes and gave up because she was confused.  I was kind of like well "duh".


Yeah, this is a show that sets out to create a wild and crazy confusing story. So saying your confused is kind of like blaming a football player for scoring a touchdown, its like the goal, the reason de etre. The confusion is of course cleared up, in pretty hilarious fashion but you have to watch it and enjoy the ride of the characters unraveling the same bizarreness you are from home. I freaking loved it.  This is a great show.

See it for yourself. This might be a show that you either love, or you hate. If you watch the first episode and hate it then you will know and can move on. But if you love it.......guess what ....

Dirk Gently Season 2 is coming out this October 14th and it looks just as freaking nuts as Season 1....which is a good thing. If you have not seen then this is the perfect time to watch season 1 because you can immediately segway right into the 2nd season. That’s beautiful, like it’s all connected.
