Riverdale #1 Comic tie in Preview

The show Riverdale is a new hit for CW.  The show is based off the Archie characters and infuses a darker tone into the old Americana stories.  Archie comics are known to wallow in the shallowness of American teenage life often painting the 50s as a perfect idyllic place.  Riverdale subtle jabs at the idea while beautifying the characters but also embedding darkness and corruption in every nook and cranny of the town.  With so much political and culture being focused on changes in America the series promises to be one cultural medium in which what America is, was and is going to be is explored.

While the show is based off a comic book, there will now be a comic book based off of the show.  In March 1st a one shot Riverdale comic will be released.  The one shot is going to be a prelude to the show and focus on the events that occurred during the summer before the series begins.

This comic is just a one shot but there is already some talk of an ongoing series.  As the show's success continues I think an ongoing will become a near certainty.

Will Cole Sprouse write a Riverdale comic in the future?
Cole Sprouse is well known for his work on Disney in the show Suite Life of Zack and Cody.  Perhaps not as well known is that Cole is also a comic book fan.  In Riverdale he plays a Jughead.  He was interviewed by Abraham Reisman of the Vulture about his role as Jughead and had a variety of insightful things to say.

The full interview can be found at:
http://www.vulture.com/2017/02/cole-sprouse-riverdale-jughead-trump.html

One of the interesting things Cole mentions is that he would like to help write some of the comics.  The comics are currently being written by Roberto Aguirre Sacasa and Cole has talked to him about potentially diving in.  Cole says in the  Vulture interview:
Now there’s a Riverdale universe that’s gonna take off in print form now, too. Roberto has talked to me about writing a couple of those, which would be awesome. I’d love to try my hand at that.
Writing comics is not easy but I am always eager to see what a new comer brings.  I think in this case taking a comic fan like Cole who is already involved in the series.
